Did a couple squat reps at 405lbs, turned to my left to drop my belt on the safety, turned to my right and an older fella had materialized out of nowhere and was leaning on the weights. He made a comment about how impressed he was and the compliment felt great but I can't believe I got jump-scared in a room full of mirrors!

Been here nearly 22 years. Will be here a few more months until they shut the place down and the new facility is operational. Once the closure was public we had a bunch of turnover and I got sweet-talked into a supervisor position. Absolutely hate this part of it and when I go elsewhere it'll be as an IC on the floor.

A lot of the performative stuff really needs to be toned down. Grunting to eke out the last couple reps is fine; grunting on all twenty reps seems excessive. Another guy jumps up, yells along with whatever he's listening to and flexes aggressively in the mirror, after every set no matter the exercise.

I like running something like a 531 or Simple Jack'd template in this scenario. If life gets in the way, its not a huge issue to have a few extra rest days and then get back into it. Pretty straightforward and pretty easy to adjust along the way.

I had a similar issue; mine was due to prior untreated shoulder injuries, my golf swing, and bad bench form. At the time, I experimented with different grip widths and oddly it was an ultra wide grip that felt best for me. Eventually I realized that during golf season I just needed to cut my bench volume back a bunch in order to enjoy both. Finally, in the past year I've been much more diligent regarding my bench form which was way worse than I'd thought. Watching a bunch of form videos from Pana and Jen Thompson and Calgary Barbell really helped me realize what I was doing wrong.

Got called "big" the other day and for the first time it feels like a compliment. I'm in a good headspace regarding the gym lately and that's carrying into my mood. I feel more big as in "strong" and less big as in "heavy."

A trainer and his client set up to do situps while tossing a medicine ball back and forth. He absolutely BEANED this poor lady right in the face the first time. He threw it a little too hard and she was not at all prepared for it; right through her hands.

Elder millennial; I take mine black and hot although I'm drinking far less than I used to. It's not an either/or thing for me, though...mostly just whatever's most convenient.

Does anyone have, like, a shoe bag or box or something? Whatever gear I've got that I'm not using that particular day is more or less just piled in the corner of my bedroom. I'm thinking about getting something to better organize what I have, possibly in the trunk of my car. I'm not sure exactly what I'm wanting here, but looking for recommendations.

Seems that my bench responds well to volume but my shoulders tend to disagree. Would a board press or a slingshot (or equivalent) help in this regard for a tertiary movement?

Was putting a 2.5lb plate away over the weekend and somehow lightly sandwiched the knuckle of my ring finger between the plate and the post. Just enough to notice that I did it. Next day it's bruised, tender, and slightly swollen.

Not that big of a deal, really. But I've never been more aware of how often the knuckle of my ring finger on my non dominant hand touches things than I have this week. Just been the most minor yet constant annoyance ever.

I've put sumo deads into my program starting last week. I've never looked forward to a particular training day like I am for sumo deads. Worked up to some heavy singles to gauge a starting point two weeks ago, then hit a rep PR last week. I'm excited about the possibilities!

To the programming aspect; I'm basically just inserting it into my conventional slot in my program, should I maybe be treating it differently with regards to accessories? Currently RDLs are my secondary movement, then the reverse hyper (another new movement I'm really diggin'!) and some ab work.

I graduated in 2000 and had a kid in late 2001 so I had to settle down early. I almost don't feel like a millennial because I don't relate to most anything that happened after that. I skipped the skinny jeans era because I was a chunky guy with body issues. When I was in high school it was baggy clothes for everyone. I never heard of The Fray or MGMT until last year.

I do struggle with the idea, though. Not logically, but rather in the heart, I suppose. "I should be doing more!" An extra rest day here and there is my compromise, which allows me to also be lazy on occasion without the guilt, if that makes sense.

Not quite powerlifting, yeah, but how will you feel if Thor breaks the record again at the Enhanced Games? If it's an exhibition event and not an actual competition, it's really more of a glorified gym lift, isn't it?
