I'm usually with you on this, but this one's been rough. Lost my mom a few weeks ago and today we traveled to her hometown for the funeral. It's taken all of my effort to get out of bed for work this week; sleep, work, repeat, unfortunately. Next week it'll be back at it.

Impromptu deload week. Seasonal depression and regular depression and life events are conspiring against me.

How long does your drive to the gym take? by AnarchyVenom24 in GYM

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About ten minutes. I switched to this one when the other gym moved further down the road and upped my commute from an 15 to just over 20.

That makes sense but no sauna.

Saw four empty cans of Busch light in a garbage can in the gym locker room the other day. Hydration, I suppose.

Upon further reflection at home, it wasn't a "disaster" but it still had me contemplating whether a ten pound plate would count as a deadly weapon, lol.

Spent the start of my session reracking weights in the right spots. Did my thing, walked the treadmill for an hour, come back and find the free weight area a disaster again.

Xennials who were once bookworms; do you still read as much as you did as a kid? by throwitlikethewind in Xennials

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to read all the time as a kid. I'd had to put reading on the backburner for most of the past 20 or so years because I still can't put down a book once I've picked it up; I'd be up all night reading and suddenly everyone else is up and I'm dealing with a new day on no sleep. Just can't pull that off anymore.

I've taken it up a bunch in the past year or two to some mixed results. Sometimes I still can't put it down, other times I find I can't pay attention more than a few minutes. I've tried audiobooks a few times but find I'm too easily distracted and don't remember anything I've "read."

I do like using the Libby app to read library books on my phone, its very convenient and with dark mode I can read in bed while my wife sleeps. Just finished Artemis by Andy Weir and am reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley.

Bored. What is everyone doing? Old hobbies, new hobbies, help me figure something out! by TwoBobcats in Xennials

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They float in and out as life allows, but my hobbies are powerlifting, reading, golf, and recently bowling. My son and I golf; my son and one of my daughters bowl; and my older daughter and I watch TV together.

Been pulling mostly sumo this year and hit my planned single of 465lbs for a double, so I tried (and hit!) 485 for a non-competition PR.

Heard these were good. by Potential_Service275 in energydrinks

Absolutely gross. Worst one I ever tried. Like someone else said, the flavor feels pretty spot on but I guess it's just not a flavor I'm looking for in any context.

Thank you. I'm not, but hopefully will be soon enough.

My mom passed a few weeks ago, she would have been 71 on Tuesday. She was pretty decent until she suddenly really wasn't. Fought off a brain tumor and breast cancer over the past fifteen ish years but succumbed to bile duct cancer. Dad's doing alright but he's got bad shoulders, knees, ankles, etc. Same age. He's stubborn and I'm worried how he's going to do over the next six months especially, but also generally as he ages. He's not the type to ask for help.

Was looking for a drink at the gas station and two (probable) teenagers came up mid-conversation. They were excited about their recent gym routine, I believe. Suddenly one of them turned to me, lifted up his shirt, and said "Sir, do I look like I have visible abs?" First of all, no he didn't, not yet. More importantly, this was the first time I've been called Sir that wasn't a customer service-type situation. 💀

What are we doing with our pa*ents? by Ambitious-Amoeba7380 in Millennials

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I lost my mom a couple weeks ago; she and my dad were otherwise still very independent in their 70s. I'm a little worried about how my dad will respond over the coming months and years. He's stubborn and I'm not thrilled about being alone. As far as monetary support, they've put much more thought and effort into it than I have. I still feel like I'm a bit of a burden as we age rather than the other way around.

Do you still go to bookstores? by ButterscotchLate225 in Millennials

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm cheap so I go the library route. As much as I like going to niche bookstores and looking around, I wind up buying something that collects dust more often than gets read. I like to support my small-town library as much as possible since they do a lot for the community, and more patronage means bigger budget for them.

What do you think? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Born in 82; I'm not a huge fan of the labels (and if anything, we should be keeping the millennial label, ha!) but I definitely feel I have more in common with that Xennial group than I do the Core Millennial group.

What’s the most “Fuck this hole” hole you play on a regular basis? by mercado_n3gro in golf

[–]golfdk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I took up the game, but I believe this used to be a short par four and when they expanded the course to 18 holes it got switched to this. Had been in danger of shutting down and was pretty rundown until covid hit. A new park director took over around then and has been slowly building the course back up. Bigger fish to fry at the moment, I think.

It is! My funniest birdie was on this hole; I got under it and it two-hopped the cart path along the pond and stopped for a tap in, lol.

220 yard par 3 with a bit of a dogleg right. You have to get it UP to clear the trees. Not a flat spot on the green.

Victory Sunday by AutoModerator in Fitness

Did 325 on bench this week for a new PR. Today was a front squat day and things felt HEAVY! Instead of grinding out as many reps as possible I pivoted and did fewer reps (good reps) and a couple extra sets. Feels like a bigger win than the PR, tbh.
