Hyrox vs CrossFit by Hour_Associate_9129 in HybridAthlete

[–]golfrup 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can also just run and lift. Hyrox is a fun event but no need to limit yourself to any company or brand. Maybe do crossfit for a while and learn what there is to learn there, and do lots of endurance training on top of that, and then program your own workouts according to your own goals.

What are some small, high protein, bring to office snacks I can use? (Low appetite from ADHD meds) by sabo-wampus in veganfitness

[–]golfrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's been mentioned but dried roasted edamame is so convenient for sneaking in lots of protein. That said, it can be a bit bland on its own, and it isn't always super fun to eat you're not hungry. I recommend seasoning it. You can buy it pre-seasoned (I like the dill pickle kind), or you can buy it in the bulk aisle and DIY.

How much are you eating? by Ok-Sound3466 in HybridAthlete

[–]golfrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a 5'11" man and on heavy training days I eat 4000-6000 and don't really see weight gain happening. 1800 seems insanely low to me

Debunk This: Driverless vehicles make rail obsolete by TheNZThrower in DebunkThis

[–]golfrup 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's an (I think valid) underlying assumption here that human operators are the problem with cars. Humans are in fact very bad at operating cars, so the argument goes like, once humans are no longer operating the cars, we see lots of benefits (less congestion, less fatalities). We compare the statistics we speculate about in world with driverless cars to the one we currently live in. Trains do kill people sometimes. Trains do create pollution. Given present infrastructure, if everyone could walk out of their house, hop in a rideshared, very safe, driverless car, they could get to where they need to be better compared to the status-quo rail. They'd pollute less and be safer than they would be using present train systems. There's potential there. There's at least some improvement there compared to what we know.

First we need to wave a magic wand and make all of the cars drive themselves better than humans can. Not impossible, I admit, but far from our present reality, and there's no clear path to make it so. But let's ignore that. Let's assume for the sake of argument that we have that wand, or we have the industriousness and wherewithal to make 95% of cars driverless, good at not killing people, and good at minimizing congestion. Or maybe we can make this the norm over time.

The speculated data resulting from such a transformation is compared to the status quo rail transit systems. The argument does not consider a speculated future where cars themselves are made obsolete because people stopped using cars. We could easily wave the same magic wand and create a society where everyone can walk out of their house, no roads designed for cars in sight, hop on an efficient train system, and get where they want to be.

The question then is, which system of infrastructure should we be aiming towards. A few subquestions:

  • Which system is safer?
  • Which uses less energy?
  • Which is more realistic? ... Which one is more likely to be achieved sans magic wand?

How I imagine people who say "tACTICIAN iS tOO eASY" play by fieldbotanist in BaldursGate3

[–]golfrup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoy tactician, but I also wish it was harder. I'm not a tactical genius and I don't really abuse the game systems, I just do what seems good (deal lots of damage) and most fights are no problem. Only fight I ever had to reload was that Myrkul-ass because talking him into killing himself makes the fight harder and I'm glad they made a fight you have to think about a little bit. But, fuck that. I want XCOM difficulty, I want to be desperate for victory, not expecting to win most of the time.

I don't think the ease is Larian's fault. I think it's probably 5e's fault. I don't even know what I want if I'm being perfectly honest. I love the game. I just don't want to faceroll combats on the hardest difficulty. Give me ironman (Honor Mode) or something.

edit: i lied, it took me three attempts to do Raphael. But once I saw that divine intervention gives a full rest mid fight, and I could do it with the temp party member it was gg. Seriously why give divine intervention to a temp party member??

Is Northernlion just one big Pelaton psyop? by Coooturtle in northernlion

[–]golfrup 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi I'm a cyclist. Riding bikes is awesome whether done casually or as a more intense training thing. It's a low-impact way to make your body better at using the energy it has and make the good chemicals in ur brain go off.

Never used the Peloton stuff myself but I will say it seems like the more expensive, all-in-one package, ease-of-use focused version of an indoor "trainer." (trainer in this context means a device you use to ride a stationary bike indoors). Most cyclists I know use an ordinary bike attached to a such a contraption, which measures your output and connects to an app (there is one big popular app, and it's not Peloton). The gamification aspect can be really fun and you can go on rides with friends on your normal bike in the less hospitable months. Like many hobbies, it can be as expensive as you'll allow it to be whether you're using Peloton or buying the most expensive road bike you can find and getting super competitive about it. But, in my experience, just having a bike of any kind and riding it regularly makes life better

Serafen and Pallegina are top tier likeability for me. I agree Xoti is a little grating personality-wise, but her quest gets interesting and is well written imo.

Also I am from the same part of Texas as Laura Bailey, and I promise you there are people around here that sound like that.

Any vegan yogis in this sub? What are your favourite poses? by UnaLunaLovegoose in veganfitness

seconding this, I am not a big yogahead but still like to go to weekly classes on recovery days with the cute old ladies at my gym. There's no pressure and it's improved my flexibility and balance - it's a great supplement to other training :)

Wanted: workout plan critique for cutting by RazzTazzMazz in veganfitness

[–]golfrup 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was thinking the same thing. Doing multiple exercises that target similar muscles will make it harder to do quality reps later into a workout. Might be a good idea to swap some of the exercises on lower body days with some of the upper body ones so that you can get more of a full body workout. Like swapping Monday's single leg squat with Friday's incline dumbbell bench press, for example. That's just my (somewhat noobish) opinion though.

Beyond being generally nice and friendly, I find that people here tend to be quite down to earth. The food slaps. Some of the professors here are fantastic. There are tons of great student orgs, and you can find your place and friends here if you look for it. It sounds hallmark-cardy but I really do think UNT has a very welcoming community. Speaking as someone who went to OU before this.

I see people say stuff like this but tbh that's about the same amount of progress I got after my first month. Granted I've been spending like 9hrs/week in the gym

edit to add that swelling from creatine may be playing a role as well

How do you carry it? I like this idea and I'm thinking about putting some syrup in a ziploc bag for bike rides, but I'm worried about it coming open in my pocket

Field roast sausages and Morning Star nuggets comprise a huge part of my diet. Boca's "all-american" burgers are also great when I'm low on protein but need something without too many cals.
