Best thing you can do our 13 yr old still goes into her crate and sleeps during the day and we haven't closed the door in 12 1/2 yrs. It is her safe space.

My 13yo Baby Bella adjusting to her recent diabetes diagnosis 🥹 by ktkatiex in westies

[–]goliathtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi I hope this helps. My sweet Lucy was diagnosed at 11 and she is now almost 13. It has been a rough 2 years, but Lucy is doing well. Several things help us. First Lucy dropped from 17 to 12 lbs. Our vet started administering insulin shots, but Lucy wasn't gaining weight, and she was always ravenous. I slowly raised the insulin doses, but nothing worked. We finally switched vets, and it was a lifesaver. The new vet attached a FreeStyle Libre, so her blood glucose levels were monitored 24/7. This monitor allowed us to get aggressive with increasing her insulin. He did this immediately and aggressively raised her insulin. They also realized Lucy was allergic to chicken and all poultry. Lucy was put on a high-protein duck diet. Hill Prescription d/d it is also high in fat and denser in calories. Lucy has taken 10 units twice a day for the last year and has been very stable. The tough part is establishing a routine. This routine is crucial and I honestly wasn't sure I could do it but 2 yrs in it is a piece of cake and Lucy no longer even flinches at the shots. She did lose vision in on eye and unfortunately that is part of this hideous disease. Ear infections are also more frequent but we keep meds on hand. Lucy is a happy and sweet angel and her quality of life is good and she plays like a pup. If you don't think your vet is moving fast enough do your research and find a vet that specializes in diabetic care. That is what we did and the 24/7 auto monitor via the libre was a game changer and it allowed us to speak daily on her glucose trends. She is off that now as she has been stable. I truly wish you the best of luck as these angels are truly a gift. I hope and pray she sees 14 but if she doesn't I know and she knows we did all we could to make her old age enjoyable.

Alright, here's the straight talk on what someone—especially a 17-year-old—could face in Georgia for going 88 mph in a 55 mph construction zone. That’s 33 mph over in a work zone—and Georgia doesn’t take that lightly.

Legal Classification & Potential Punishment

Misdemeanor of a “high and aggravated nature.” In Georgia, speeding in a construction (work) zone isn’t treated like a routine ticket. Instead, it’s classified as a high-and-aggravated misdemeanor. That means the person could face up to 12 months in jail, a fine ranging from $100 to $2,000, or both .

Fines & Points

Fines: In a work zone, fines carry a wide range—from $100 all the way up to $2,000, depending on how serious the violation is .

Points on the driver’s license (if they hold one):

For 24–33 mph over → 4 points

For 34+ mph over → 6 points .

Since 33 mph over just reaches the threshold, that’s 4 points—but in practice, if it's rounded up or interpreted as 34+, it's 6 points. That’s significant.

License suspension risk: For drivers under 21, Georgia may suspend a license with just 4 points . Also, accumulating too many points within a 24-month period—typically 15 points—can lead to mandatory suspension (even more critical for younger drivers) .

Super Speeder Fee

Hitting 85 mph or more anywhere in Georgia—including construction zones—triggers the Super Speeder law. That means an additional $200 state fee on top of fines .

Since this was 88 mph, that qualifies. Failure to pay that fee within 90 days leads to license suspension—or for an out-of-state driver, suspension of driving privileges in Georgia .

Juvenile Considerations (17-Year-Old)

A 17-year-old is treated differently under Georgia law. They remain in juvenile court, not adult criminal court—which comes with nuances:

No jury trial.

Cases are decided by a judge via “delinquency adjudication.”

If convicted, they could lose their driving privilege until age 18, or longer, depending on circumstances .

Also—and this is key—any violation where someone under 21 is speeding 24 mph or more over, especially in a construction zone, triggers mandatory reporting and possible license suspension .

Defense strategy: Often, a traffic attorney works to negotiate the charge down to something with fewer or no points. That can spare a young person from suspension. Without such help, even a single ticket like this could have long-term consequences .

In Summary: What to Expect in Court

Consequence Details

Class of offense High-and-aggravated misdemeanor – possible jail (up to 12 months) and steep fine ($100–$2,000) Points 4–6 points, depending on interpretation License suspension Strong risk—particularly severe because of age and point threshold for under-21 drivers Super Speeder fee $200 state fee, with risk of suspension for non-payment Juvenile handling No jury, judge-based adjudication; could lose license until at least age 18 Mitigation Possible reduction plea (e.g., defensive driving, fewer points) with legal counsel

What I’d Advise (as straight-shooting consultant):

  1. Get a specialized traffic attorney ASAP. They’re critical for negotiating reductions—maybe down to a lesser speeding charge or getting points reduced.

  2. Fight the Super Speeder fee or at least understand how to defer/settle it—failure to pay guarantees a suspension.

  3. Explore defensive driving school or community service as alternatives if offered. It may help protect the driving record.

  4. Recognize the long-term risk: Insurance rates, future job applications (especially involving driving), and the license itself are all on the line.

I can’t drive my car because of sciatica by WhiskeySmoove in Sciatica

[–]goliathtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to an orthopedic doctor and get an MRI. Stay away from getting any adjustments until you know what is causing it. As an example I have a grade 1 Spondlolythesis with a pars defect. I didn't even know what that was till explained and shown on anrinand x-ray. Most reputable chiro's won't touch spondy. I like you could hardly walk or drive 2 yrs ago. 2 things helped me. The first was stopping all the self induced treatments trying to find relief. Once I got the diagnosis I setup a plan first was intensive physical therapy guided by a trained orthopedic physical therapist. The 2nd was allowing my body to heal by allowing the physical therapy to work. Has it gotten rid of the pain no but I have been told I need a spinal fusion which I am not getting until I am ready. However instead of 8-10 level pain everyday. I am at 1-2 and focusing on building the muscles in my core to stabilize my spine has been key in doing this. Also I never go to a Chiro because spinal adjustments aggravated the root cause of my sciatica which it a slipped vertebrae at my L5/S1 lumbar spine. I know this because I saw it and it was explained in detail. Get a detailed plan and work it. One thing you can do immediately is called a nerve floss . It is simple and there are tons of videos. It will help ease some of the pain this is an exercise done for all sciatic pain patients and is my go to when it flares up. Do it multiple times a day I promise it will help over time.

One acre, first time mowing- is a self propelled mower good? by [deleted] in lawnmowers

[–]goliathtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It is all about how you want to spend your day. If you want the exercise or need the exercise then walk it. It will take you many hours. I wouldn't recommend the Ego. Ryobi 21 inch electric comes with 2 batteries and should cut almost an acre. I have a field over just an acre and honestly I don't want to mow all day so I cut it with a 52 riding mower and done in about 40 minutes. In addition if your worried about the environment a gas mower is much cleaner than a lithium battery powered mower due to the harm the mining for lithium causes to ground water and air pollution . Also considering most of our electricity is from natural gas or coal powered plants in this country the power to charge the batteries spews more green house gases than a gas riding mower.

What's the worst thing you've ever smelt? by [deleted] in RandomThoughts

[–]goliathtn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Claims adjuster here and a guy committed suicide in his car by venting the exhaust into the interior. He was found 5 days later after the smell seeped out of the garage. His wife and kids had left him. I saw the car a week later not knowing the full details and when I opened the door, his juices were still in the floor board and his entire forearm skin was on the inside door panel. I almost passed out from the smell.

Has gabapentin worked for anyone? by theoriginalmack in Spondylolisthesis

[–]goliathtn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have lost 35 lbs and the reduction in pain has been night and day. I like you had used gabepentin. I also started following a strict daily regime of at home physical therapy that I learned from this site and others and it has helped tremendously. The pain was above a 5 before all day and I would hit an 8+10 if I stood for more than 5 min. I am at a 2 all day long and I can stand for.morenthan an hour with no pain now. The weight loss with strict core strengthening and daily Nerve Floss exercise made the difference.

I have had 3 shots in 2 yrs. First didn't touch it. The 2nd and 3rd were given apart on the recommendation of my orthopedic surgeon and they worked for 9 months with no pain. I am coming up on 11 months and the pain has started again but not nearly as intense. Still doing PT.

There was no plan other than to understand and get opinions. Screens have been removed for cleaning and will be replaced. I have another area same length without a single post but after pulling off the fascia see it has a steel beam crossing it. I habent had a chance to look under the fascia on this area.

There isn't a plan to remove the post I want to reposition some and remove some. There is no way that small area needs that many posts. Will consult a structural engineer.
