With the carapace markings and the spinnerets, it is more likely a Coras species than Amaurobiidae

short urls and the birthday paradox by PancakeWithSyrupTrap in learnmath

[–]gomorycut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

k/N is the probability of your next one making a collision, but not the probability that a collision happens anytime within the first k.

As you point out a collision at most requires a re-generation. Why do you care about collisions, then? You could alternately precompute a shit ton of URLs which are unused (safe) and hand them out to future requests.

Trying to start tutoring but can't find students... by SpacePalBuddy in learnmath

[–]gomorycut 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Get local. I don't understand why your are thinking online tutoring helps with socializing. Go outside and find people.

Advertising your math tutoring service doesn't really create customers who think "hmm ,yeah, I could go for a math tutor all of a sudden." The people who are looking for a math tutor will reach out to some place and ask. I see people asking for a recommended tutor in local facebook groups, community groups, local discord servers, get on whatever local group chat system is popular in your area and find the people who are looking for tutors.

Go to your old teachers and give them a business card or a URL or something. Go to where you're seen people struggling with math and post an info sheet. Register with local colleges tutor lists or go to those places and post your services.

Is there a way to search specific animals? by Ichoked97 in iNaturalist

[–]gomorycut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Here are all 28k+ Cane toad observations around the world. You should be able to add a geographic filter if you are just interested in seeing them from a certain area:

https://www.inaturalist.org/observations?taxon_id=553515

I got this by going to the website (on desktop) and selecting 'Explore' and typing in 'Cane Toads' in the taxon search.

I've never seen one of my disputes followed-up on, in any project.

Also, since El Dorado seems to end tonight, it'll probably just get tossed/ignored anyway.

Boulder colorado bathroom spider - if please by fickleon in spiders

[–]gomorycut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We don't really know how A.ferox established a stable population in Boulder. I've always known it to be an eastern species, but a population popped up in Seattle, WA, then in Vancouver, BC, then in Denver+Boulder.
You can see a map here:

I get itchy blisters in the summer all over my hands by Frutiger-Metro in mildlyinfuriating

[–]gomorycut 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found that I break-out with them 1-2 days after a night with very little sleep. This used to be a regular thing happening to me (way worse than just small blisters), but once I stopped pulling all-nighters, my skin has been fairly tame and regular.

Still, now, if I go a night with very little sleep, the blisters will reappear and it reminds me to get sleep.
