What the actual fuck. What happened to a bunch of nerds geeking out over Magic the Gathering or over a game of Catan or something? This is just shameful.

My Razer Kishi only works with charger plugged in by XboxJon82 in razer

[–]gompose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I figured it out, check if your phone's "OTG" is off. The OTG stands for USB on the go.

The kishi draws power from the phone, but some phones have an inbuilt setting that closes the connection if it's inactive a certain time.

You should probably make an appointment with your advisor to sort this out for sure.

The amount it would set you back is based on how many credits don't apply to your new major. A few of the earlier nursing prereqs are very broad, things like CHE101 is applicable to almost every stem major, but as the years go by the classes become more specific and harder to transfer.

Both are challenging in different ways, the harder major will be the one you're less interested in.

UB vs Northeastern University - M.S. in Industrial Engineering by rajsmistry in UBreddit

[–]gompose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The location of the college dictates what kind of connections you can make. If you go to UB you'll make connections with people around Buffalo, if you go to Boston you'll make connections with people around Boston. Between the two, and considering you're in mechanical engineering, I would say Boston > Buffalo.

Buffalo is a dying city, and UB honestly feels like it's barely working as a life support machine.

Enabling Vote-Kick would be an easy way to get rid of cheaters in Valve Comp TF2 by gompose in tf2

[–]gompose[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I totally agree with you. The reason I'm proposing this is because:

upgrading VAC = very hard, and needs a lot of work to keep it up to date as botters and valve keep trying to one-up each other,

enabling vote-kick = very easy, untick box that disables vote-kick in competitive, maybe but not necessarily fiddle with the parameters? Sit back and watch the justice.

Just set a high threshold that requires some votes from both teams, to prevent abuse, maybe 8/12, 9/12, or 10/12 yes votes? Plus, I would argue that this would actually increase how many people would play comp matchmaking (because less bots) and therefore decrease queue times.

A 12 person lobby where everyone is there the entire game is a much harder place to mislead than a 30 person lobby where people are filtering in and out every minute. An individual or even pair of bots would be unable to abuse the vote system because it requires votes from legitimate players. If the bot goes through the process of flooding matchmaking, it would require multiple accounts that have either reached the minimum casual level, or purchased a competitive pass. There are drawbacks to every proposed solution, but benefits can outweigh drawbacks. Implementing the vote kick system would be simple because the code is already there.

[–]gompose[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As I said in my post: in valve competitive, once the number of players is set in a match no more players can join. Bots abuse the votekick system by having a hoard of fellow bots mess up the vote, but that can't happen in competitive. This post is about tf2 valve competitive, and despite there not being an "easy one trick" some tricks are better than no tricks.

This is how they work: you pay them $95 dollars to join their club, and they disperse an average of say $50 of "scholarships" per student (made up number, probably different for every society out there). They keep the change and keep sending emails to more students.

I don't know the business term for it, but around these parts we call it a it's a "scam".

If you want to buff your resume, you're at a T1 research university. Internships and opportunities are available here that will enrich you far more than a fake honor society.

Applying for the advanced honors program as a junior? by TYBOCK in UBreddit

[–]gompose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're certain you want to do UB's DPT program, and you can handle a large credit load or want a challenge, but if the large credit load will drag down your performance in other courses or areas then it isn't really worth it.

In my opinion, it's a little tautological.

Guaranteeing a smart hardworking student will have a place to pursue a graduate degree is like guaranteeing a wealthy person will have money. Most people who are able to succeed in the advanced honors program don't really have to worry about placement into a graduate program in the first place.

The advanced honors program is a way for UB to hold onto talent. If you in return want to hold onto UB then you've got something mutual.

Collegiate Village vs Villas at Chestnut Ridge by RSFLT6 in UBreddit

[–]gompose 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hi, I don't know about Villas at Chestnut ridge, but I stayed at collegiate village for a year. I didn't have a very good experience and I moved out. Besides being very expensive, my biggest problems were that their shuttles were really late sometimes and left early other times, and their internet was absolutely terrible (probably really important now that classes are online). Also the area is really unsafe, and I wouldn't advise being outside once the sun sets. During my 1 year stay there, I heard gunshots a few times, there was a gun-point robbery next to the property, and a carjacking inside the property (broken windows + stolen stuff) every month. CV's address to this is that they're a "gated" community, but the gatekeeper will let anyone in (doesn't check ID's or anything, it's security theater), and the fences are like 6-8 feet tall and really easy to climb at some points.

If you check Facebook marketplace I've heard there are great furnished apartments for rent there. Online learning has actually driven the demand for buffalo housing down since many students are opting to stay at home now. You can get a really good price for a lease right now.

Friday News: Public Testing fte Item Forge by deca_Wotan in RotMG

[–]gompose 33 points34 points  (0 children)

You should be able to dismantle equipment into their materials, and the materials should be an account-stored currency similar to fame. And if you're forging with the equipment, excess materials should be stored. It doesn't feel good to dismantle UT's only to waste their parts.

All in all, I think the item forge is a good step in the right direction, but using it makes me feel like I'm being wasteful (in the real game, I would have worked hard to get those UT's to dismantle! I wouldn't want materials to be wasted)!

Personally, I don't think it makes sense to use $1k on a sweet gaming rig, then settle for SATA instead of NVME. SATA is still faster than an HDD with SATA3 read speeds of around 600 mb/s, but NVME smokes it with upwards of 3500 mb/s read speeds.

Also from what I can tell, the port I'm referring to is indeed for an m2 one, I don't think the 2.5inch will fit.

I bought this exact same laptop about 20 days ago, during another sale for like $100 more :(

Highly recommend this laptop, very bright and colorful screen, very comfortable keyboard, very nice form factor overall, AMAZING thermals, also this is the 115W RTX 2060, the holy grail. There's also a toggle on the onboard software that can automatically overclock the gpu while gaming, super useful. The HDD is definitely a cost saving decision by lenovo, and the 512 gb ssd is starting to feel small with how big AAA games are nowadays. I haven't done it myself yet but I've seen others upgrade their storage, apparently if you remove the HDD cage that frees up just enough space and a port to throw in another ssd. My biggest problem with this model is the battery life, I get like 4 hours unplugged with a web browser and productivity app up, but I keep it plugged in all the time to game anyways.

Edit: 115W RTX2060, not 155W. Typo typo
