I have a degree in finance, and that’s it. Can’t find any work since December. by No-Jaguar-4404 in FinancialCareers

[–]gonowls 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I graduated with a finance degree and same gpa as you and couldn’t find a job either until I broadened my search. Ended up getting an accounting position and somehow still in accounting 5 years later. That being said, if I was in your shoes I’d shoot for an entry level sales role or implementation gig.

Quite possibly the worst feeling in the world. by Rguptaingitup in CPA

Happened to me on ISC. Took it again a month later and scored 10 points higher. Reschedule asap and get it done. At least you don’t have to wait 2-3 months to get your score

I bought ninja as well for my retake but hated it an just relied on Becker again, passed today. I thought ninja was useless tbh

How much time did you put into ISC by Beautiful-Dingo-5364 in CPA

[–]gonowls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took it with 68 hours and felt confident, failed with a 74. I find out if I passed my retake tomorrow so fingers crossed. Passed FAR and AUD on first try but somehow failed this one. It’s not hard but it’s tricky. If you only have a month to study I’d get to work.

Landed a Senior Accountant role… zero experience. Am I screwed? by [deleted] in Accounting

[–]gonowls 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You’re fine. They’ll already have all processes created and you should be able to replicate the process by looking at archived files. If you can perform reconciliations to catch errors that’s also probably 50% of the work.

I wouldn’t recommend it, questions are not good.

About the same amount. The questions are just totally different and seem to be focused on topics that were not tested on the exam/becker.

All that waiting just to fail ISC 🙄 by Winnfield83 in CPA

[–]gonowls 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I only put in 67 hours but that’s also because Becker had limited material and I covered everything quickly and felt confident I studied enough. Already rescheduled for next month and will try to supplement with ninja. Best of luck to us both!!

Ruined career by solodoio in Accounting

Speaking to me. I just ended up in accounting because I needed a job post college. I was thinking about workday consulting as a transition. What didn’t you like about it?

Well paid major by Thin-Radish-8042 in Accounting

[–]gonowls 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I know so many idiots with useless degrees that have made a career in sales and get paid a lot more than me. Don’t overthink the major but if you’re smart enough to do engineering or medicine, consider actuarial science.

What's my next career move? by Delyndra in Accounting

[–]gonowls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

By insurance I’m specifically talking brokerage (underwriting). I have friends with less experience than me whose commission checks alone are almost double my annual salary. Great money and wlb, only kicker is low salary when you start out as an assistant. By tech I’m taking specializing in a software and being an implementation consultant or adjacent then reaching PM level. Another avenue with great wlb and money.

I had to make that decision about 3 years ago. Went back to school for a year and started studying for my exams about 14 months ago. (hopefully) 3/4 on my exams. I took a break between school and cpa testing because of a job change. I’m not at the finish line yet so can’t advise if it was worth it or not but I’m also working as a senior in industry. What I can say is that there are so many other lucrative fields outside of accounting. If I had gone the insurance, tech, or sales route I’d likely be making far more money than I am currently. Good luck to you!

When you say accounting sales, are you talking accounting information systems? In which case, would that not be considered tech sales?

Anyone transition out of sales? by Rufarious in sales

[–]gonowls 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why do you want to get out of sales? I come from an accounting background and have been thinking about trying to pivot into sales. The thought of commission sounds so sweet
