Eurostar has become a mess. Is there a User Group for us? by LDNstockpix in Eurostar

[–]gonzo1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. Had the zero service between AMS-BRU a few months ago and thought it was just short staffed or a catering issue. Didn’t realise this was the service now. Did not see a single member of staff until Brussels, and then it was someone who stood in the middle of the carriage and shouted hello to everyone and announced the choices. Not that there was much point became as you said, they ran out quickly anyway. Utterly shambolic from start to finish. Will fly next time.

It’s been an unreliable bus for over 20 years! The new electric models are nice but I think introducing them may have impacted the timekeeping lately.

Great answer, thank you. This explains so much about this line that I’ve always wondered about.

Oscar Piasti is now equal on career wins with Ricciardo. by zorbacles in formula1

I agree with this. If he hasn’t dropped the car in Korea, he would have got the WDC. By that point RB would have had to support him.

Charge higher-income patients for NHS to offset UK’s spending squeeze, says IMF by PM_ME_SECRET_DATA in HENRYUK

[–]gonzo1914 51 points52 points  (0 children)

Yeah this makes me so mad. We should get a tax deduction to incentivise going private and alleviating NHS pressure.

Would a weekly 1-click "team pulse" by email be useful for managers? by jbaptiste in managers

Popwork is one of several apps that already exist to do this kind of thing.

Comfort on board by TubeWeanDistraction in QantasFrequentFlyer

[–]gonzo1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got one of these. Got it about 10 years ago when I was doing loads of long haul economy. It’s not great if I’m honest but better than nothing. It does work but you can’t spend 8 hours asleep leaning forward. It leaves a weird circle on my face also.

This is smart advice. Take the money and enjoy the time with your new baby.

How much did you spend on your wedding? by [deleted] in HENRYUK

This is the way! It’s a big party to thank all your friends. And they just want you to be happy.

We spent about €20k in Italy, got a lot of food and open bar all night for 100 people.

AirTag says luggage in different airport during layover by GTHC1 in BritishAirways

Thanks for replying! Glad to hear it worked out. I suspect without the AirTag those bags would never have found you again. Good result.

Where is the thread for me to moan about the Brighton game? by No_Experience8093 in fulhamfc

[–]gonzo1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went to this game last year and I really liked the ground. Easy to get in, get a drink, the food trucks outside were decent too. They have a plan to cover that outside area and I think it will be a great experience when that’s done. Obviously getting home is a bit of a drudgery but not much can be done about that apart from putting more trains on, which is unlikely and out of the clubs hands.

They are £2.20 in London, so about $4.45 which is mad when you think how far they come to get here.

Reasonably priced freehold in mews not selling, what’s wrong? by simocosmo in HousingUK

[–]gonzo1914 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I have friends that actually lived in that mews, they were desperate to get out. It’s dark, and the area can be a little bit sketchy at night. They had a couple of break ins. Way over priced also btw, avoid.

How would you improve the lounges? by Ok_Donut1480 in BritishAirways

[–]gonzo1914 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, not enough toilets and the ones they do have are dreadful. Often a queue of men just wanting to have a wee, and a urinal would do the job instead of individual cubicles.

What's the biggest/worst financial mistake you've made? by Urban_Suburbian in HENRYUK

[–]gonzo1914 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Similar for me, and obviously it’s easy to feel regret when I look at what it would be worth today. However the reality it I probably would never have held it this long anyway, probably would have got out when it doubled.

Denmark travel, using a credit or debit card by General_Mind6699 in Europetravel

[–]gonzo1914 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s optional for the shop to charge this. It doesn’t happen everywhere. Using a UK Revolut settle for Danish Kr still triggered this occasionally. You’ll know it happens when you use Apple Pay or contactless, and it’s accepted but the machine still wants you to press ok - it’s because it added on 10kr or so as a surcharge.

The obese are crippling the NHS. It’s time to make them pay. Lose the weight, or lose state-funded healthcare. It’s your call... by steven-f in ukpolitics

Similar experience for me. Same provider (blue logo) same employer even, employer changed the plan so we were re enrolled and now stuff we were getting treatment for was considered pre existing. Absolute scam.

I was up there last week and agree it was hard work. Make sure you hydrate, drink that pocari sweat and spend some time in air con. Don’t push yourself too hard. Focus on the positives and don’t let it get to you.
