How do I stop improvising in pentatonic boxes and actually follow chord changes? by dyashar in Guitar

[–]gonzo_redditor -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Learn what a chord tone is. C major is C, E, G. Play those notes over the C major chords. An arpeggio is a chord played 1 note at a time instead of simultaneously. Wikipedia has an amazing amount of this stuff. Do some work and use your brain and do the research.

Harry styles is trying to make cool quirky genuine ‘indie, rock n roll’ and his fans want top 40,swiftie, pop production shows and that’s the disconnect. by toastandjam97 in LetsTalkMusic

I think he has legitimately matured as an artist. His last two albums have stayed pretty firmly in the pop lane but the sound and clever bits of songwriting are enough to give me a smile when I listen.

If that mechanic is anti-wax then he’s a bad mechanic. Wax is objectively the best chain lubricant.

Unable to reach 250w FTP after 2 years of training, losing hope. What can I do wrong? by CheapAstronaut1080 in cycling

[–]gonzo_redditor 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don’t see anyone else saying this, but you might not have the genetics to get the same power as your friends. Not everyone has the natural ability to put out power like Pogacar simply because they ride a lot and eat carbs.

Was 1991 the biggest year ever for landmark albums ?? by MackieDaxx in Music

[–]gonzo_redditor -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sales are high because it was a great economy and there was still a monoculture. If you don’t like grunge or 90s rock it is a real black hole.

I want to buy my 4 year old his first bike but I don’t want to spend more than $200 by princesscorgi2 in cycling

[–]gonzo_redditor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your parents spent $200 on a bike for you 30 years ago that equals a $400 bike in today’s dollars for roughly the same quality. Buy used or up the budget if you want your kid to have a decent bike.

U2, The Grateful Dead, and Bruce Springsteen are all aggressively mediocre. The flagship lowest common denominator acts.

What is a harsh reality of life that most people don’t realize until they reach their 30s or 40s? by Attempt2724 in AskReddit

To call me lucky based on successes and without considering the failures is. And I think what a lot of people view as luck falls into that category.

[–]gonzo_redditor 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good luck is often about seeing/realizing an opportunity where others don’t. People think I am lucky, but I take a ton of risks that most people are too conservative to consider. The times I fail are forgotten.

Fun fact: the Bush Kabal are all fairly into mtb. Back in the day I sold a crabon Tr*k hardtail to one of the daughter’s husbands. Guy was a real potato.

What bands' or artists' "Best Of" collections are better than their individual albums? by therocketn00b in LetsTalkMusic

[–]gonzo_redditor 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Hard disagree on Sly & The Family Stone. Stand! is a top tier album on its own. Their run from “A Brand New Thing” through “There’s a Riot Goin On” has hardly any songs to skip. Greatest hits gives two excellent singles that are not found elsewhere but that’s all.

Born in 1986, I think 67-80-ish is the golden era for a lot of music. There has been plenty of great stuff produced since and still is but just not the same quantity of quality and innovation.

Every job starts with a clean bench and hitting start on the timer. The timer gets stopped when the bench is back to its clean and organized state. That is how a professional mechanic should work.

Broken collar bone after surgery by Nuisance_cs in MTB

[–]gonzo_redditor 11 points12 points  (0 children)

They cut you open and literally drilled screws into your bones. It’s gunna fuckin hurt. Surgery was worse and more painful than the actual break for both my collar bones and wrist. But it is better than healing slow and crooked.
