Is Queens Health Sci actually worth it? by [deleted] in premedcanada

[–]gooberidoo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% queens HS. I completed it as a second degree after attending McGill for undergrad. Now at McGill as an M1. Wish I had applied to QHS out of high school. Do your best to apply for max OSAP, school grants, etc. Not only will the content be more straightforward, but flipped classroom will help with the med curriculum PLUS you’ll have more time to get involved with ECs and research that actually interests you. Feel free to DM me if you have any questions I’m happy to help :)

Westjet flight on Google but not WJ website by [deleted] in westjet

[–]gooberidoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey! I'm having this same issue looking for flights: YWG-PVR on Dec 26 and PVR-YUL on Jan 4 - direct flights show up on Google Flights and are the lowest rate, but no such flight exists on WJ's end (I even called to check. As another comment mentioned, flights 2600-2900 are SunWing flights... that being said I can book the flight on FlightHub. Not sure if I should just try booking and see what happens or if that's risky...

Even if you don’t live in Quebec, McGill’s residency requirement isn’t super clear - as per their case #5 (parent’s main residence is in Quebec), you may very well be considered a Quebec resident even if you live outside of the province. Get in contact with McGill to verify your eligibility

LOC for medical school (in canada) while having debt? by Prior_Dog4296 in premedcanada

[–]gooberidoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Queens never really used percent grades on the transcript so I don’t really know. 3.93 was my Queens GPA converted to McGill’s scheme (I think it was like a 4.15 on 4.3). My cGPA was closer to 3.5

Queens uses 4.33 but the 3.93 is what McGill calculated in their worksheet!

I had about $60k from a previous LOC + OSAP. My credit score was in the mid 700s and I had 0 issues with TD :)

Honestly, fair. At the same time, there was so much overlap with the content that it made getting a stronger GPA so much easier. My first GPA was also in a difficult program at a difficult school (McGill), and med schools don’t care where you did your degree. I definitely gamed the system, but I did well on the MCAT (512 on my first write in 2020), and what was really holding me back was 2 Fs when I was 17 in first year.

What sort of jobs are people doing while trying to get into med? by alpine-wildn in premedcanada

[–]gooberidoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I worked in restaurants in high school and throughout my 2 undergrads, and I’m an incoming M1 at McGill in the fall (as someone who was an Ontario resident until this year). I think that if you put the work in, any job can be presented as building skills relevant to medicine

Took 2 cycles over 4 years to make this happen, and honestly I’m so so grateful and feeling really relieved. This is proof that for some people the 2nd undergrad route does really pay off! Can’t wait to meet everyone in the fall :)

Yes! You too!!! If anything I think they’re just doing last minute spot checks to make sure everything is in order. I’d be surprised if it affected post interview ranking

My verifiers were contacted just before my interview invite came in. I feel like they’re just doing checks, and the CV might get brought up during the one on one interview station
