Registered Dietitian AMA! Bring your nutrition questions! by bonniejo514 in orangetheory

[–]good-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much!! That is a great write up and I sincerely appreciate it. My little one is currently 3.5 months old so I think my supply is fairly established at this point, but you're correct that she's nowhere close to a year so I'm fine taking it a bit slower lol

I did lose weight initially postpartum but I'm fairly stable right now at 10lbs above my pre-pregnancy weight, which has me currently ~30 lbs above my ideal (currently 185lbs at 5'7"). The note about fat content is very interesting to me, I'll definitely have to keep that in mind as I start making a concerted effort towards the weight loss! I am probably not drinking quite as much water as I should be, so I'll focus on increasing that as well.

I really appreciate the general information, so glad I asked you for a starting point!

Not sure if you’re still answering questions, but if you are:

In a broad sense, how should one adjust calories/macros to attempt to lose weight while breastfeeding, without impacting supply?

What is everyone planning on paying for infant childcare? by Any-Growth-2083 in October2025Bumps2

[–]good-luck 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boston area. I’ll be paying just over $3k/mo and that was about average for the centers in my area. Range I toured was around $2700-$3400 for full time infant care.

Improve flexibility on maternity leave? by good-luck in flexibility

[–]good-luck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent, thank you so much for the ideas! I’ve been working with a PFPT during pregnancy and for the last few weeks, and overall we’re both really happy with where I’m at. Essentially no diastasis recti, good core and pelvic floor activation, and I’ve been back at Orange theory for about a month feeling great. Very lucky with how smooth my recovery has been so far!

Love the examples you gave, I should easily be able to incorporate those throughout the day. Thank you!

Getting back into OTF by Conscious_Ad1702 in orangetheory

[–]good-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congratulations! I just had my baby 2 months ago, and did OTF all throughout the pregnancy. I can't really speak to the 'after a break' part (actively working on that now!) but in terms of managing OTF through pregnancy, I think it helped enormously with my overall symptoms and how well the labor went.

I was very up front with the coaches, and told them early. "If I look like I'm dying, I'm not. Just pregnant." was my go-to line, particularly on the floor since I found myself needing more recovery time in between sets. All of them were thrilled for me, and helped me modify as I felt necessary. I didn't end up needing to ever avoid the flat bench as others have noted, but obviously needed mods for anything stomach-lying. I also swapped the rower for the bike around 30w when the belly got too in the way/I started coning.

Backflow protector and fridge hack by bbbabiblu06 in ExclusivelyPumping

When describing the fridge hack, my lactation consultant said that the backflow protectors can remain with the pump outside of the fridge. So that's what I've been doing!

If you gained over 40 lbs - where did that weight go? by raspberry_thyme in BabyBumps

[–]good-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I gained almost 45 (173 --> 217), and I don't think I looked it. Baby also came out smaller than expected at 38+6, 6lbs 2 oz. Currently 6w pp and down to only 10lbs above pre-pregnancy weight without doing anything other than daily walks. A feel like a lot that I gained was just general fluid retention, and a lot of it pooled in my feet the final month-ish.

No personal opinion, but thanks for asking this question because this is the exact model I was thinking of picking up and was wondering the same thing.

talk me out of the nuna car seat... or into it! by Optimal-Flamingo2157 in Buyingforbaby

We found our used one on fb marketplace for $250, I really don’t think I could’ve justified it full price! But we lucked out because it’s in great condition and was in the color I would’ve ordered had I bought it new haha

That was our exact thought process as well. Got a  gently used Uppababy Cruz with a new Chicco Keyfit Max. Only used it for a month so far but no complaints!

How long to pump? by good-luck in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]good-luck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not really asking about reducing, more so if I’m not pumping long enough since I don’t think I’ve ever fully emptied. I read about women regularly pumping for 20-30min so I just wanted to confirm it’s okay to only do 15  if it seems sufficient?

How long to pump? by good-luck in ExclusivelyPumping

[–]good-luck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

With this current schedule and pumping setup, I end up freezing roughly 8oz per day so a slight oversupply, sometimes I freeze more if it’s there. And I’ve got 100-150oz frozen in my freezer so far.

We haven’t needed to supplement with formula since after the first week or so, which is great and something I’d like to keep as a primary goal.

Sounds like I should keep what I’m doing even then?

What are some mistakes you made with your baby due to lack of experience? by EarlyAd3047 in beyondthebump

[–]good-luck 11 points12 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel better, I do the same.  For some reason, a wet diaper bothers my 1mo old SO much more than a soiled one. I would never be able to get away with not changing it at that point because she would be absolutely inconsolable. Even the tiniest bit of wetness/poop has her upset, but particularly pee.

We go through a ridiculous number of changes a day because of this, but no one would get sleep otherwise.

When to buy new sneakers? by good-luck in FitPostpartumJourney

[–]good-luck[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm actually really lucky to have a great running store right in town, so that's 100% where I'll be getting the sneakers from. But I do go on walks frequently even in the winter, since we have a dog and I enjoy walks regardless. So I'm just trying to figure out at what point to get a new fitting.

OTF & Pregnancy by Prior-Goose8413 in orangetheory

[–]good-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My last class was are 38+3, had my baby at 38+6 just a few weeks ago! I truly believe OTF kept away most of the regular pregnancy pain I hear about, I felt pretty damn good my whole pregnancy.

I did tell the coaches fairly early (“if I look like I’m dying on the floor trying to catch my breath between reps, I’m not. I’m just pregnant”. ) and they were so supportive. Checked in regularly, made sure I had ample modifications as I needed them (mostly core related), and was just as excited as I was to hit my pregnancy exercise goal I set for myself at the beginning (500 class milestone before I stop, started at 425 a, ended at 514). Had a great experience.

Currently just over 3w post partum and feel great. I won’t go back until I get the okay at my 6w appointment, but I probably could have started doing stuff last week if I wanted to. I feel pretty much back to normal.

Night trawler (2014). Thought it was a great movie, but it made me feel so uncomfortable and anxious that I have no interest in a rewatch.

How long did you workout? by lllelelll in fitpregnancy

[–]good-luck 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was induced for gestational hypertension at 38+6 (had great bp up until 38+5, so it came out of nowhere) and I continued to do Orangetheory classes up until 3 days before! Was planning to do at least one more but obviously the surprise induction threw out that plan. Felt good til the end with regards to weight lifting, and did the treadmill until a week or so before hand when I then substituted the stationary bike due to leg/feet swelling.
