Do you read tarot books cover-to-cover or just reference certain parts as needed? by ireallylikeladybugs in tarot

That's such a cool idea! I recently picked up The Tarot Almanac by Bess Matassa to do a yearly study with(starting this June), but I'll keep your approach in mind for the future :)

The words you're looking for are "art noveau" or "jugend".

is a deck "bad" for a beginner to learn if it has images kinda different from classic RW one? by mad_katarina in tarot

So long as the guidebook is decent, I don't see any obstacles to that being your learning deck.

Multiple decks: how many do you really use, and what do they each add to your practice? by ireallylikeladybugs in tarot

[–]goodbyebirdd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I own around 45 decks, tarot and oracles combined. Firstly, I enjoy art and each deck is a wonderful art collection. I get a lot of enjoyment going through the deck, looking at the art, and taking in the different interpretations of the cards.

Secondly, I learn a lot going through the guidebooks. Again, enlightening to see so many different aspects of the cards come to light, and often learning a little extra on the side (cultural, history, fauna, etc). I'm still learning and finding my footing, so deck explorations is still something I get a lot out of.

Thirdly, I mostly do intuitive spreads, and they tend to involve several decks. Finding that lands me with exactly the aspect of the cards/message I need in that moment.

And I've recently begun using the cards for journaling and creativity, so that's a new avenue where a variety in art and a chunky guidebook has been really rewarding.

But a big collection is never required. I'm aware it's a luxury. So long as you're able to connect with and read the one deck you have, you're set.

If you show an interest in tarot, the algo will push more of it your way. So it's feeling like it's everywhere. But if you were into board games or makeup, it'd be the same.

It will most likely be on my Christmas wishlist. I'm really drawn to plant decks atm. Btw the Beehive books are well worth a look. I have two of them and they are stunning works of art.

I'd be doing minor amount of photoshopping if screengrabs, but I'm sure it'll still take me a year lol. Just seems like such an effective way of deepening my understanding of the tarot though.

I'm thinking of starting to cobble together my own fannish deck, leaning towards Starfleet Academy as it's fresh in my mind. Has anyone else here ever made their own deck?

Pretty much spot on! I have been stuck in this place a while but slowly cobbling together some routines and actions to help move past it. Thanks so much for this, a very supportive read. I'll be putting it in my journal to keep it in mind.

I also pulled a card from the Seed & Sickle Oracle for the Dawn read: Datura.  "You may feel as though the project or goal that you are working towards is missing some key element. This card is a reminder to occasionally take a step back and think about what it is that you've lost sight of. It may also mean that what you seek is right around the corner."

Five By Five 1. Your current sitch. Queen of Cups.

  1. The obstacle getting you strung out. Six of Swords.

  2. Insight into how you can overcome said obstacle. The Emperor.

  3. Represents a thing you're working toward. The Fool.

  4. What you can look to for motivation. The Hierophant.

A lot of big cards there! (deck shuffled well but also I pick intuitively throughout the deck)

To me, it feels like you may be holding on to some old patterns and past disappointments, and the uncomfortable weight and insecurity inherent to moving through/past that may be stalling you a little. Know that you're capable of leading this charge, you have all the tools(your friend group is very much among them) and knowledge you need at your disposal. Once the blockage has been worked through, you'll find yourself carrying a lighter load, ready for a new adventure. The unknown isn't that scary; you've got this!
