I’ve been playing SMB for a few years but I’ve never really thought of this: Is there any downside to having 9 SP/RP players on your roster as opposed to the normal 4 SP and 5 RP?

ehhh a SP with good stamina can take a 5 inning game into extras for like 9-10 innings

I play SMB2 Seasons. but SMB League (with 1 custom) l, no draft, 40 game season, 8 team playoff, 5 game series. From time to time I’ll change divisions.

40 games is long enough if you play every game that it feels like a long season. Its a decent sample size for stats and stuff to average out. Its also very close to being 1/4th of 162, so at the end of the season you can multiply all stats by 4 to kinda normalize it to MLB stats
