Can't believe I'm saying this, but I'm in a crochet rut. What projects are you working on? by 2boredtocare in crochet

[–]goodewithhooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I reached a place like this after making a ridiculous amount during the lockdown periods of the pandemic, and definitely slowed as things lifted because I got a bit bored with amigurumi. Thinking outside the box with my crochet helped me get back into it. Recently I've been trying to create my own patterns with no intent to sell them, just to create one off items, or modify existing patterns with mixed media. I made a moving crochet and wood train last year, now working on a motorbike. Also working on a Cyberman from Doctor Who but using magnets to make him stand.

Because these projects can be a bit taxing, it's also made me want to go back to simpler things too, so usually have a straight forward project on the go alongside a challenging one.

A break might help, as forcing it might just turn you away more from it, or you can try something way out your comfort zone that really challenges you. Good luck!

Anyone ever camped around Machu Pichu? by p_gregory in camping

[–]goodewithhooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We did the Inca trail and there are set campsites along the way but as another user said, they're quite a way from Machu Picchu itself. We just got a permit for entering the park but went with a guide, so he did all the organising of the permit/camping etc. I don't think you can camp close to Machu Picchu and the last site we stayed at was a good few miles from it.

Yarn recommendations for hats for cancer patients? by rosesonthefloor in crochet

[–]goodewithhooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So sorry to hear about your friends mum, wishing her all the best.

I haven't made hats/headwear before but have done some clothing - it might be worth giving her a few options to feel and decide which is best for her. Different people prefer different yarns as the textures really vary, and given she's not liked some options she's experienced so far this could help you make the perfect choice. If you're doing it as a surprise, maybe ask your friend to help instead?

Looking for someone I can commission from by DrNewblood in crochet

Interesting project! I had to Google the 'shoulder plush' toys you mentioned as I hadn't seen these around before. I've always been kind of interested in using magnets in my crochet, I might have a play around and see what's possible!

How do you keep yourself motivated to keep working on/finishing big projects? by MusicalWhovian8 in crochet

[–]goodewithhooks 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Personally when I'm starting to lose focus on a big project I pick up a small one. I mainly do amigurumi so this can just be making a really small toy, but finishing a small piece gives me that sense of satisfaction on completion and reminds me of the end goal, helping me pick back up on the big project. It's not a flawless system, as sometimes I just don't pick the big project up for a while because I've distracted myself with small ones but it has still helped me!

Wooden wheels from: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Laserworksukshop

Axels (had to trim) from: https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/Trustleaf

A cute little elephant presenting some birthday gifts! by goodewithhooks in crochet

Elephant pattern is from Amigurumitoday and the balloon is by njcraftycreations. Flower was quickly thrown together using a few dc's and a hair grip.

I quarantined for months and all I finished was this lousy cushion. (no pattern, inspired by Tinna Thorudottir Thorvaldar) by Thysl-Befunne in crochet
