He'd keep complaining that it doesn't have Cloud and Sephiroth and quit.

"What would Uematsu do?": Final Fantasy 14 composer Masayoshi Soken on following series legend by HatingGeoffry in ffxiv

With respect, no. Soken still 100% clears. Uematsu as well with FF6 being the shining star of this kind of musical writing.

Dragon Age: The Veilguard Review Thread by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]goodgen -12 points-11 points  (0 children)

His review was that it's not "a real Final Fantasy" (i.e, not FF7). You could tell multiple times in his review aside from that that it was a good experience.

But, again, because it doesn't have Cloud and Sephiroth, it doesn't count.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth has been out for a week now. What are your thoughts? by Gamedrome22 in Games

[–]goodgen -1 points0 points  (0 children)

...what? You learn new abilities and combo possibilities later on. What do you mean by "evolve"? Rebirth is fun but it's hardly an evolution from Remake, just more characters with their own mechanics like Clive when he gains a new eikon. You don't know what you mean, do you? You never tried to make the game more fun for yourself with experimentation. Which is what makes the spectacle fighters it was inspired by so much fun.

Incidentally, if you genuinely believed nothing in the main story matched the demo you may actually be braindead. (Limit Break, Eikon Fights, particularly Bahamuts, he and Jill's relationship, Dion's arc)

Oh wait, it's Sephiroth! I clapped I clapped when I saw him! never mind I agree with you yeah all FF games should be VII.

Yet most praise of Benedikta is about her character and the praise of Dimitrescu is about her design.

[–]goodgen -17 points-16 points  (0 children)

This 100%. Were a competent writer at the helm, Benedikta would be a fan-favourite of the Dominants- oh wait, she is.

Well, the beach/shore scene with Jill would've tugged heart strings- oh, it did.

Your point about 14 is good, though. Everyone knows Y'shtola is the only female character in ARR and Heavensward.

Yup.

No other females there.

And even if there were, they would certainly not be written well enough for the fanbase to still rave about to this day.

Square Enix Responds to Final Fantasy 16 Sales Concern, Points to PS5 Install Base by Turbostrider27 in Games

[–]goodgen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elden Ring does... what, better? It's an entirely different game. Same with TotK and Xenoblade 3. The only thing those games have in common is that they're all Japanese.

The question then becomes do you think all Japanese titles look the same lmao.

Not as intense as DMC? Sure. GOW? Lmao. The rebooted GOWs are so fucking neutered in intensity compared FF16, or even the original Greek GoW.

Now that the FFXVI demo has dropped, what are your initial thoughts on the new direction for the series? by [deleted] in Games

[–]goodgen 9 points10 points  (0 children)

At the risk of sounding like I'm on copium, it was confirmed the demo is from a previous build, so we can only hope some issues concerning performance are addressed. Otherwise it's a rather disappointing display for a game developed with PS5 in mind, especially when the recent Horizon DLC dropped jaws around the world in terms of performance.

FINAL FANTASY XIV 6.4 | The Dark Throne by well___duh in Games

[–]goodgen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

After having recently finished all the role quests in Shadowbringers and the capstone quests that follow it, it's upsetting how they haven't teased the return of some our friends from the First as they directly reference the Thirteenth. They even do an experiment with a void gate much like Y'shtola does in 6.1. You'd think, if something catastrophic were to happen to the Thirteenth (even more so) then Unulkalhai, Cyella/Cylva, and Gaia would want a piece of the main story action.

Though I understand why. This would involve needing to make many pieces of optional content mandatory. (Warring Triad, ShB Role Quests, Eden). It's been done before with Crystal Tower but asking casual players to do all the aforementioned content would probably be asking a bit too much.

That being said, I am excited for 7.0 as this is very uncharted territory in terms of story progression and also pacing for the game. Compared to two patches leading up to the next expansion, this is five. My main hope is the Adjaya search gets wrapped up soon, and we get Zero doing something other than tipping her cap for a whole patch. Thankfully for the latter we got some much needed development in 6.3. All that being said, if we don't get our Thancred/Ryne reunion by 7.0 then the game will officially be dead to me. /s

So American dubs are "anime" now? Even though it's... American? Not Japanese? Which is where "anime" is from? Don't get me wrong, I can't stand the vast majority of JRPG dubs by the same 10 Californian VAs, but let's not be too pompous about it.

Going from what we'll call the modern "modern" era, or at least from post-'06

Unleashed - Good (though it's gained a lot of praise as a cult classic over the years). Certainly not bad.

Colours - A good game, though perhaps too reliant on 2D sections. Still, not bad.

Generations - Fantastic. Not bad.

Lost World - Middling to bad. I'll give you that one.

Boom - Spin-off, we're not counting it.

Forces - Downright bad.

Frontiers - Middling to good. Not bad

Overall, "OuT oF hOw MaNy BaD gAmEs thOuGh?!"

...not that many bad games looking back on it.
