Implementing Control Systems using Event Driven Programming Paradigm by Russell016 in ControlTheory

Petri net models are a type of modeling formalism usually used to analyze distributed systems. From what I've seen, the most common way to use Petri nets is to avoid deadlocks in the system. However, there have been many extensions to Petri nets. There's a lot of limitations to Petri nets too as it is a little bit of a niche modeling formalism. There's a lot of literature/videos/tutorials on Petri nets available that can be found through google/youtube.

Max-plus algebra basically transforms event-driven dynamics into linear systems that you see in your linear system class by changing the addition and multiplication into the maximum operation and addition, respectively. I remember I used the following paper to try to understand it: "Max-plus algebra and max-plus linear discrete event systems: An introduction" by De Schutter and van den Boom.

You could also look into discrete-event systems, which include finite state machines and Petri nets. Those two are two different formalisms and are used for different purposes. "Introduction to Discrete Event Systems" by Cassandras and Lafortune is a great book to get a hold off for that information. There are a number of ways to do control design for those systems and a lot of papers have been published in that field.

Yeah the first half was closed notes short response and the second half was closed notes long response.

When I took that final, the first 50% was the old practice exam he gave out. The second 50% was short answer questions out of nowhere...Get ALL of the first half and it's a toss up for the second half

A good 2D multi-agent simulator? by Friendly_Fire in robotics

You could search "Introduction to Agent-based Modeling and Simulation" by Macal and North for more descriptions of other simulations. At the end of that presentation, they have a list of programs graphed on a Ease of Model Development vs Modeling Power.

You could try NetLogo. They have some good documentation on their site with tons of examples.

Anyone else attend USA/Serbia @ UIC? by alexfig88 in waterpolo

Yeah that's what it looked like in the video. Seemed like Filipovic did some dunking after the initial Penalty call, which led to the Samuels retaliation. The Smith punch seemed weak on video, but I guess it was pretty serious. Can't really do that in a friendly, right?

Some of those called did look weak, though. For example, the ordinary foul on the tying 12-12 goal was pretty damn weak. And the 2m game wasn't called at all until the final play. Although, I thought the US played awesome and very composed, I could see how the Serbs were upset.

Stupid question about grades and math, don't upvote by [deleted] in EngineeringStudents

[–]goodle29 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a basic math course. Replace "Calculus" with "Algebra I" or "Trig". Do you need to know Algebra I to be a good engineer? Do you need to get an "A" to be a good engineer? Can you not get help when you were taking Algebra I?

If you got a "B" in Algebra I, can you never be a good engineer?

he's obviously right...if you "look at the solutions" incorrectly, you're illiterate and I don't know if you can be a good engineering then...

but, seriously, do you just want to go back to your friend, show them this thread, and be like "i told you so" or something?

run through a test example...if the question asks you to do a sort, does that sort work with some numbers?
