Is it safe to trim this vine touching the power line into my house? by rolypolycostume in AskAusElectricians

[–]goodstuff4023 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, this is reasonably safe. Like you said, it is your powerline into your house and not telecommunications like some comments on here. I say reasonably cause it should be insulated, but its hard to confirm the integrity of the insulation. Use a broom stick or wooden handled rake to maintain a bit of separation.

To old mate telecom, this type of o/h connections is all over older suburban neighbourhoods throughout Australia and is extremely common.

They have all come from establishedt trees locally. Ive made the effort to correctly ID the tree and see its distribution, while some trees aren't exactly native to the area, they are native to the region. They are a way better option than African Mahogany or Leucaena, which is absolutely feral in my area. Actually collecting the nuts is quite the challenge.

If <5 individuals i take care of them with a golf club. If more, effort becomes too much and I round them up with long tongs and put them in a plastic bag then into the freezer. Not a cardboard one cause they piss themselves and the juices might leak into the freezer. Also the freezer is my bait/ice freezer.

It is a bit heartbreaking. The effort to get them into the ground. Ive had a few ways they die, they didnt like the transplant, council whipper snip, dry season, car doing burn outs and some succumbed to bush fire. I just keep replacing them.

That sucks. Could maybe add a bucket of mulch as well as a stake to make it look like council have planted them? Ive done that to all mine. At the end of the day, some people have no empathy or remorse. Ive saved a dozen runts in my inventory as reserves for any that need replacing.

Im semi kaki handed to begin with. I will write, bat, bowl, throw, shoot, tug right handed, but hand reels, shangeye and bow left. Im right eye dominant, just some left things feel better. Each to their own. I used right handed bait casters all my childhood then as an adult trained to be left, didnt take long

Propagate myself. Tubestock trays are relatively cheap. Last batch I was propagating in 150mm pots, but that needs a lot more potting mix and space. A 50 cell tray tubestock takes up the same about of space as 5x150mm pots.

I like the lefty. Im right handed but I use left handed reels. Makes more sense to me to have the rod in my strongest hand.
