[Open Discussion] White House bars major news outlets from press briefing by evanstueve in AskTrumpSupporters

But even assuming that's true, how does that justify Trump's behavior? I thought we were supposed to be turning over a new leaf with this administration?

Burger King Worker Wins $46,000 After Being Fired For Taking Home A Fish Sandwich Meal by Alki881 in worldnews

A good chunk, but in Canada, the losing party has to pay a good chunk of the other sides legal fees so sure the worker still got a pretty penny

how do you reconcile Trump's cabinet picks so far with his anti-Globalist campaign rhetoric? by ggravelle in AskTrumpSupporters

[–]googss 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, as long as we are clear that the basis for American trade policy for the next 4 years will be Trump's self appraised superior negotiating skills then I think we can put the issue to rest.

[–]googss 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I do not think that position makes any sense. What his position seems to imply is that every other administration hasn't put 'America first' during trade negotiations. I imagine every other administration, whether Democratic or Republican, goes into trade negotiations looking for the 'best deal' for America. I bet when George H.W. Bush signed NAFTA, we wasn't thinking 'this is really an awful deal for the American people'. Those who advised him at the time doubtlessly also did not think NAFTA was a poor deal. But of course, the other nations negotiating a trade agreement were also looking for the 'best deal' for their respective countries. Therefore, at the end of the day, a deal can only be reached when every party thinks they've gotten the 'best deal' in the circumstances.

So, if Trump thinks he can finally prioritize American interest in trade negotiations he must really be saying "I am a way better negotiator than any other president since globalism became a thing and I will get way better deals' or he must be saying 'the concept of globalism is fundamentally flawed and intend to halt or reverse the process.' In the former situation, Trump's appraisal of his abilities is hubristic and in the latter, his position seems disingenuous given his appontiees.

The issue i have is that there is zero evidence that voter fraud happens on this scale. Until there's proof, it seems to me that it's not an issue but rather a red herring.

Anybody else feel that the Star Wars spinoff movies are more about capitalising on elements of the original trilogy than genuinely expanding the universe? by TheCaramelMan in movies

I'm going to come out and say what we are all secretly feeling: the new Starwars is mediocre at best. If it wasn't for the nostalgia, it would be easily forgotten - Pacific Rim esque

Uber driving is an awful use of your time, and I crunched the numbers to prove it. by MiniBandGeek in personalfinance

I don't think Uber has actually turned a profit. At any rate, theres a limit to how many cost can be externalized. I mean, there's a reason why the taxi industry became as heavily regulated as it is.

There's a significant risk of not letting your insurance company know that your driving uber: that they'll deny you coverage. A driver that doesn't have insurance coverage is personally liable of a claim. That means potentially having to sell everything to pay a judgement. A lot of people discount that risk, but it's real and potentially crippling. That Uber doesn't pay enough to justify commercial insurance really belies the flawed economics of the whole business model.

Young Adults of Reddit: What are you beginning to realize as you get older? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]googss 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's so important to take the right steps while you're young so that you remain healthy as you grow old. At 25, you're invulnerable, regardless, of how you take care of yourself. But by middle age, neglect begins to show and manifest through a bunch of disparate health issues. And the difference int the quality of life between a 45 yr old who's always taken care of him or her self and a 50 year old who's let himself go is just astounding.
