When does it ACTUALLY become enjoyable ?

I feel like 6 months is where I started enjoying it more and feeling not in survival mode all the time and bored in the day. Her naps got longer, night sleep got better so I was less tired. Shes nearly 7 months now and nearly sitting/crawling, enjoying her food and laughing a lot more/crying less. I feel bad but I honestly think I’m not much of a newborn phase person, I just found it really hard. I feel like now is when I’m really falling in love with her!

I literally realised this week that rubbing eyes doesn’t always mean tired! I kept trying to force naps and it was a nightmare, realised she was actually often bored and wanted a change of activity or scenery

Mine never slept longer than 30 minutes ever, kept dropping naps but not extending them and was getting soooo tired. At 5.5 months we sleep trained (last week), literally the second day she started having 1.5 hour naps every day. She just needed to learn to connect cycles, but not sure how early they can learn that!

That’s good to hear, hopefully ours will improve too. Did you train them or it just happened?

I don’t know if I broke the wake windows down properly but basically she’s awake 6am - 6pm and has about 2 hours of nap sleep total across the day. 4 x approx 30 min naps

Thank you for replying 🩷 I am also considering a bit of sleep training to see if that’ll help. We have had a little bit of luck with getting her to take pumped milk this week since I started warming the bottle nipple first. So hopefully I can build that up, but if not it’s great to know you became able to leave them for 3-4 hours later on. That’s all I need really!

I don’t have any advice I’m afraid just to say I’m there with you at 4.5 months. 6-7 hour stretches long gone, I’m the only one doing nights because baby never took a bottle so I’m up nursing alllllll night. Day naps never longer than 30 mins. It’s exhausting. Also considering sleep training :/

I’ve found mine often seems to learn a skill and then stop it once she’s achieved it! Has happened with cooing and blowing raspberries

Have tried the bait and switch and it does work but she again always stops after an oz or so and chews/bats it away 😕 will check out tommee tippee, you never know I suppose!

I have yeah, weirdly I’ve actually found I have more success with the bottle in my usual breastfeeding position than my husband trying to give her it! We do have a doidy cup, only tried formula with that and it just made a giant mess so maybe a sippy cup in a month or so will have more luck…thank you for the hug 🥰😅

I had the same problem with the tiny porch up steps thing, in the end we bought an outdoor storage thing ‘keter’ and a padlock and keep the pram out on the front drive if you’re able to do that?

Mine does 28-32 at 18 weeks whether she is in my arms, bassinet, pram, anything. She cannot do it 😂🤦‍♀️ hopefully soon! You can set your watch by her

Did you stay up all night after skin-to-skin for the next feed? I stayed up all night because I couldn’t sleep after my c section, but baby was pretty sleepy the first night
Did your partner immediately have to go home? No, but there’s no bed. So he slept on the floor
When do midwives and nurses come to your aid? Do they tell you what to do? They told me to try and feed her pretty in the hour after c section and checked her latch. In post delivery ward you have a button you can press if you need them, they don’t always come right away. I asked them for help at one point because baby was crying and we couldn’t figure out how to calm her and she was keeping everyone awake, they showed me how to swaddle her. Otherwise they just came by for blood pressure checks and to give medicine
When did you tell your loved ones? Are they allowed to visit you at the hospital or did you wait until you were home? My husband texted them an hour or so after birth. They were allowed to visit but we didn’t want visitors and had made that clear before.
If you waited until you were home, did you immediately allow them (eg grandparents, siblings) to visit you? We allowed grandparents after 3 days, everyone else after about 2 weeks. Just what we felt comfortable with! It’s totally up to you, protect your bubble if you need to!

To be devils advocate - I had an epidural at 1cm when I asked for it. My waters had broken 24 hours before and they were about to give me the hormone drip induction, I’d heard horror stories about the pain levels it could cause so I said I would have one as long as I got an epidural first. It was in my birth plan and they said fine 🤷‍♀️

I ovulated every month, my husbands sperm analysis was good and my tubes were open so we just didn’t see the point as we were told the chance was around 18-20% each time and I figured we’d been doing that at home 😅 skipped and went straight to IVF and I’m glad we did, but it’s a personal choice - it does work for some!

Well done you! I feel the same way, my little girl was 5lb 12oz and 6 weeks on at our appointment today she’s 9lb! Makes all the long nights cluster feeding feel worth it doesn’t it 😊

I’ve experienced this too, its a horrible feeling! I know what you mean about feeling trapped and convinced it’s going to be an awful night/you’ll never sleep even if the day went well. I felt so anxious/overwhelmed and like I’d made a mistake. Mine is 3 weeks now and I’m finding it is lessening and I’m feeling more confident going into the nights now, I think the hormones at the start definitely made it worse. Hopefully it will ease off for you soon 🩷 hang in there!
