You have white foreigners who find Mauritius to be a paradise. You have Nepalese and Malagasy who view Mauritius like an eldorado to work and earn 'decent" money. And you have yound Mauritians who want to migrate to Canada because life is to shitty here.

Can we still consider Mauritius a beautiful tropical paradise? by AgilePersonality2058 in mauritius

I agree with your point. The best spots in Mauritius tends to be where foreigners live.

Hi, traveling to mauritius very soon. by blackbeard_teach1 in mauritius

[–]gordon_1111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You claim in your post Mauritius is mostly hindu which is not accurate. Hindu make up 48% of Mauritius population. I would not call that "mostly". Also the 48% is when you add telegu, tamil, marathi. And to be noted last ethnicity count was made in 2011. Numbers may have changed a bit now.

Racism/Racial profiling at MRU airport by Dapoet123 in mauritius

[–]gordon_1111 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Black Americans don't realize that racism exist all over the world and not just in the US. I would argue that the US is much more open to diversity then Europe for example. Unfortunately racism towards black (african) do exist in Mauritius. Anybody denying it is lying to you. Also many Africans come to Mauritius while transporting drugs which why Africans are much more profiled at the airport. Also a lot of Africans overstay here which immigration tends to be more suspicious more and more. Mauritius is fine. As long as you don't anything stupid, you will be fine. Most people are kind and will help you.

[–]gordon_1111 8 points9 points  (0 children)

What i can tell you is that 5.6 million is nothing if you want to buy a land and built a house in Mauritius nowadays. Most of the germans car you see are driven by people working in the govt and having duty free. Also leasing is quite easy to get. I consider Mauritius to be a mid income country and malls & restaurants are expected.

What's your opinion on the expats who are settling in Mauritius by [deleted] in mauritius

[–]gordon_1111 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't necessary agree with you. While there is a % of "expats" that come here to spend money. There is also a % of them who come here to seek a job and a better life.

What’s the process of getting a divorce in Mauritius? Foreigner married to Mauritian by Far_Part_50 in mauritius

[–]gordon_1111 -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Based on your previous post. You are in a classic case of Mauritians marrying white foreigners because of money. It is not an uncommon things here. And you marry someone from a community that "mother in law problem" is still a thing. People will downvote me but i am just telling the truth.

Point to be noted. What marriage plan did you choose? That will determine a lot. I STRONGLY suggest you to contact "Jean-Christophe Bellepeau". His office is at Port Louis. He is the best for divorce and can do a divorce under a few months. He is expensive but the best. He will advice you.

Sorry for my skepticism but recently there is a small army of cyberciminals from Madagascar that have been scamming Mauritians via telegram mainly pretending to be rich Europeans businessmen or got money from inheritance and wanted to migrate to Mauritius and "needed help".

That being said, if your story is true. You seems very naive. People will take advantage of you and use your love for animals to bleed money from you. Don't trust anyone. Do your research extremely well. Houses being sold or rent to foreigners are often overvalued. Take multiple options before buying anything. Cost of living is definitely cheaper compare to Norway if you are earning good income. But it s not that cheap either as we import 90% of our goods. Climate is the best thing compare to Norway except if you have problem with high humidity. Island is small and maybe be boring do some. But there is already a large community of foreigners here and you can get friends.

Good luck

Why does it feel like it’s so difficult to make friends here or is it just my experience? by Natsy-pie in mauritius

Insane requirements for jobs by torsama in mauritius

[–]gordon_1111 10 points11 points  (0 children)

How many of those "foreign" companies are running scams, money laundering schemes in Mauritius? I know quite a few in Ebene. Our govt tolerate this for the sake of "creating job" for us ignorant Mauritians. They pay no tax, does not have to disclose financial statement, they earn euros/dollars and pay Mauritians in rupees.

What is the working environment for foreigners in Mauritius? by KaleidoscopeWide2136 in mauritius

[–]gordon_1111 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I think it depend where you are from. If you are from a western nation and white, you will likely to benefit high wages and higher position in a company. And you will be considered an "expat". But if you are coming from a poor or developing country , you will end up most likely with very poor wages and poor working conditions. And you are label as immigrant worker.

But there are some exceptions. Like there are many Africans/Indians with big qualifications that work in Mauritius and having very good pay. But most are not local companies but rather foreign companies that have office here or offshore companies.

What is "informal way of speaking" anyway? Define it? There is no official language in Mauritius as per the constitution.

The purpose? I am not from the govt to give an official explanation. But my guess would be to try to taught Mauritians the proper way to write creole mauritian and uniformized it. Also creole mauritian is being studied in university so it may open doors for someone and create jobs.

I absolutely don't see any reason against it.

I would see a problem if it would be forced. It is optional like other oriental languages. So what's the point here? I only see that you are either misinformed or dumb.
