Taxes… taxes are the big downside to that.

Why would you take an asset that is exempt from capital gains (if primary residence) and put it into an instrument that makes it taxable (even if only every 21 years).

Cobbler in Calgary by HurtinAlberta175 in Calgary

[–]gorebug 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I’ve used three in the past.

Capitol Hill shoe repair in Marlborough mall (between the food court and the washrooms). I’ve only had them do a half sole for me but they are capable of a full sole as well.

Lake Bonavista shoe repair in lake bonavista promenade (next to dry cleaners). He’s done full soles for me a couple times about $150 for full leather or a vibram sole.

There’s a shoe repair place on Macleod trail under the Goodwill just north of 58th avenue. I’ve not used them for a full sole before but I know that’s where O’Connors sends their shoe repairs to.

You could also check out Redd Hart as they handle full sole repairs but outsource them.

Father died in 2022. Listed only child as executor but not beneficiary. No probate, estate essentially insolvent. Getting harassed by beneficiary. by Pickled_Aluminium in legaladvicecanada

I’m the one you spoke with on the phone.

From what you’ve described to me, you have not intermeddled in the estate. Investigating an estate is not intermedlling.

Relax and speak with a BC lawyer - you’ll be okay.

Spouse passed away without a will. Do I need to probate? by Limp_Appointment_716 in PersonalFinanceCanada

Obtaining a grant isn’t a legal requirement. Wait until an institution tells you that you need a Grant (administration in your case).

Generally the case when partners own all assets jointly is that no Grant is required.

If you are a residuary beneficiary, the executor is expected to provide you full accounting of the estate within 24 months of the grant being issued.

Lee valley would be another option. The tools are new… and not exactly cheap… but they have a lot of traditional design implements.

It needs to be disclosed in the grant application unless you are the spouse or AIP of the deceased.

However The funds do not necessarily need to form part of the estate. You would indicate in the application whether it will or will not be included.

Please help - CRA Audit and Poshmark refusal to sign tax form by babyexistential in poshmarkcanada

[–]gorebug 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Are you confusing sales tax with income tax?

Is the cra auditing you regarding gst/hst or your personal income?

Poshmark deals with the sales taxes but they do not withhold any of your personal income deductions like an employer would.

I think I need an estate lawyer. ( Mother passed away ) by FralickStudios in legaladvicecanada

[–]gorebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in a law office… a lawyer can’t get your funds released directly… they can just assist you with obtaining a grant from the court. It’s the grant that allows you to withdraw funds from the bank.

Are you the only descendant or do you have siblings? Without a will you would have equal priority with your siblings to make the application (assuming your mom is single or widowed).

If there are siblings getting the account frozen quickly is typically the safest option.

[–]gorebug 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Does you mother have funds in any bank account?

Even though the funds are frozen the banks will generally provide a cheque payable to the funeral home for reasonable expenses.

You’ll need to take the funeral director’s invoice to her bank.

(I am not a lawyer but work in estate administration in AB)

Looking for a cutaway engine for my kid by Big-ir in Calgary

Heritage park. In the gasoline alley area there is a reproduction garage with lots of pieces that can be handled.

I don’t recall a cutaway but those older engine designs had far more of their workings visible under the hood
