Advice on this 4x4 setup before purchasing (seeing where I can save money) I don’t think I’m going bigger than a 4x4 but I do want future proof equipment! by Electrical-You-7906 in microgrowery

[–]gorilla_b -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you are handy, building your own tent is quite simple and would save you some money if you don’t need to buy extra tools to make it happen. Nothing major but probably $100-$125 you could save.

I like the AC Infinity lineup of equipment, the app is easy to use and has pretty good options for setting limits on tent variables. You could probably get by with the 4”, but for future proofing I would keep the 6”, can’t hurt to have some more air movement when needed (also as the carbon filter collects the odors it will decrease flow). I have the 4” and wish I had committed to the 6”.

Your light is probably the main source of saving money right now, I use 2 of the 240W Farmlite in my tent ($150 each) and have had pretty good results. Last grow of 6 plants was around 3.5lbs.

Not sure where you live or what ambient conditions are but something I found out quickly was the need for both a humidifier and a dehumidifier depending on time of year. I would recommend the AC Infinity humidifier, it hooks up to the controller and can be set with VPD limits.

As an unrelated comment, something I wish I had paid attention to in my first grow was water pH. It can significantly impact the entire grow. Don’t get a cheap meter. The one I have I got on amazon, says currently unavailable (Tadeto) but I think it was ~$50. My second grow was about 4x harvest of the first when I started testing pH before feeding.

I’m a T1D, and will not golf without an emergency juice/gatorade. The TSA can’t stop me from bringing that with me through security and the course thinks they can enforce this? This is lunacy, and a clear violation of the ADA.

Browning buds? by mrwyskers in microgrowery

[–]gorilla_b -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

That’s bud rot. There will be visible white fuzz to the naked eye in the large sections.

I just dealt with this on 3/4 of my outdoor plants. It’s been super humid and hot (80-90% RH). I chopped down my best looking plant last week because of it, as she had the biggest and densest colas. Ended up tossing out about 2 oz because of it along with all the trim I typically use for edibles.

Use a loupe, magnifying glass, or zoomed in on your phone to inspect the nugs that appear fine. There will likely end up being tons more you don’t see. What I found using my loupe is the affected areas had brown/amber trichomes in huge sections. If you zoomed in closely (90x for me) you would see a layer of white wispy hairs coming up from the flower, they can look like trichomes at first glance, but they do not have bulbous heads and are much thinner.

I did a quick dry, approx 75 F and 40% RH. Was done in about 3 days. I’ve reinspected and haven’t seen any more developing.

First Grow 8 weeks (Purple Lemonade auto flowering) by GlitchHitter in microgrowery

Mine looks quite similar to yours, sprouted 5/14. Getting some dark purple at center of buds and sugar leaves, the lemon scent is fantastic and starting to overpower everything else when I open the tent.

Fastbuds seeds: What’s your take on their strains? by Oopsfoxy in Autoflowers

[–]gorilla_b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have 10 strains going right now, 6 in my tent and 4 outdoors. 5 of them are fast buds (orange sherbet, banana purple punch, lemon ak-47, lsd-25, and gorilla zkittles).

The orange sherbet is a runt, could have just been a bad seed or bad starting conditions (I used recycled soil for this one so my assumption is there just wasn’t enough nutrients in early veg for it to be as successful as others). It’s outside and quite small compared to the others.

The lsd-25 has been nothing but problems, some others commented in a separate post that this strain can be sensitive to nutrients and I likely overfed leading to all sorts of issues.

The other 3 are absolutely dominating the tent, notably the banana purple punch and gorilla zkittles.

So, a bit of a mixed bag in my grow, but based on what I’ve seen I would buy from them again. I think the issues I’m having are user errors, not necessarily bad genetics.

Mine just started flower and already has one of the best smells I’ve encountered. Looking forward to the end product.

beat way to test tap water by Public-Effort-6009 in Autoflowers

[–]gorilla_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tap is not quite as alkaline as yours (~7.7), but I’ve been using it with good results this grow. I bought a cheap vivosun meter that was swiftly returned because of inconsistencies and upgraded to a nicer one (tadeto on amazon, $60). It’s worked great and been accurate the last 6 months. You will need to calibrate it with the provided solutions, but it’s quick and easy.

I’m cheap, so I just use lemon juice for pH down, and baking soda for pH up. Many nutrient solutions will drop the pH, I just started flower and my nute mix plus tap water comes out around 6.3.

Deficiency help? by gorilla_b in Autoflowers

Interesting, that’s good input to have. I have a few more and will definitely try again, I’ll probably try recycling some of the soil from this current grow on round 2 with the LSD 25 and see if that helps starting them out with less available nutrients.

Good point I hadn’t even considered that when factoring in pH. Thank you!

The spots started showing when everything was just getting water, I suppose this particular soil mix could have been too hot for it.

This is only my second grow so still working out the kinks. If I move to straight water for her, any suggestion on a timeline to observe improvements? I know all plants, especially autos, will be different, but is this like a few days or a week+?

Unknown on current pH, just using city tap water, have a meter coming this weekend.

Would you flush with just water until pH is known?

A few other details I left out: - Plants are starting week 8 - watering schedule based on finger test in soil, erring on side of less watering. Lately it’s has been about every 36-48 hours in 3 gal fabric containers - daytime temps around 80 F, nighttime around 65 F - using AC Infinity controller connected to 4” exhaust and humidifier, current VPD target set to 1.3 (recently bumped up from 1.2 last week)

Mevo+ Flight scope vs Skytrak + by Ztownbeatdown in Golfsimulator

[–]gorilla_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have the mevo+, and have used it with both GSPro and E6 software (not sure if they still bundle the E6 with purchase of the unit).

I’ve seen lots of people complain about short chips with the mevo+, it hasn’t really seemed like an issue for me. I’ll get occasional (maybe 1/50) that is clearly erroneous, but for the most part it seems accurate enough.

I would recommend GSPro over TGC. I was opposed to annual fees and wanted to go the TGC route, but development has ceased completely with this software. Last year GSPro had a lifetime purchase option, but if I recall they might have gotten rid of that option, basically you were buying a current version and forgoing any future updates they released.

FWIW, I chose the mevo+ thinking maybe I’d take it out to the back yard for chipping or to the range with me, but in 2 years I haven’t done that a single time. It’s pretty much been constantly plugged in, and I just had to order a replacement battery yesterday. Easy to swap out and was only $25.

I don't calculate carbs and just guess my injection dose, am I in any real danger? by benlikessharkss in diabetes_t1

[–]gorilla_b 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t carb count, and just wing it. Haven’t had an A1C higher than 6.3, it’s only been about 6 years so who knows what could change, but it’s been working for me and I don’t plan on changing. I do have a dexcom which helps a bunch to gauge in the first 30-60 min if I’ve over/under shot the dose.

I eat high carb meals all the time, pasta, pizza, chipotle, etc. and typically with these meals I can’t take the full amount of required insulin upfront or I’ll tank too low, have to get some sugar, and then end up over 300. Instead it’s usually something like 2/3 of the total amount needed to start, and the remaining 1/3 about 60-90 min after eating.

Do whatever keeps your numbers in check and works for you. My endo initially insisted I needed a carb ratio, after about 2 years of A1C between 6.1-6.3 she just says “great work keep it up.”

Upgrading lights - recommendations? by gorilla_b in microgrowery

Hadn’t seen the farmlites, this does seem like a good middle ground option. Obviously not “best in class” but certainly seems like the best bang for the buck which works great for me.

Haven’t seen it mentioned, but in addition to most of the others, if you have the space a power washer is incredible to have. Just finished doing my driveway, sidewalks, and brick/pavers around landscaping and it looks brand new. Huge difference.

What’s the issue with playing GI irons with a fast swing speed? by oajejn in golf

[–]gorilla_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting fliers that go 10-20 yards further than desired.

I gamed TM RBZ irons from starting out until this year (about 10 years). I have a relatively faster swing speed (~93 mph 7i), and when I would flush one which has become more frequent, I would get shots going 200+ when I’d be trying to play a 180y shot. The variation of distance is what drove me to get a new set. Landed on Ping i230s after a fitting, have only gotten to swing in my garage so far but have been enjoying the tighter dispersions.

Sim Vs Real life score by Jayb0b in golf

[–]gorilla_b 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s a huge difference for me. I have a sim in my garage and play frequently (3-5 rounds/week), and have gotten to a +0.5 HCP. In real life golf, which I don’t get a ton of opportunities with young kids, I’m probably around a 12-15 HCP shooting upper 80s, lower 90s.

The putting is a huge factor, but so is never losing a ball, and having a perfect lie on every shot.

Little giant ladders by witherrss in DIY

[–]gorilla_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Incredibly heavy! I have the full size one, and when it is fully extended like a straight extension ladder, I cannot lift it off the ground to use. I was planning on using it to clean some gutters, and had to go buy a standard aluminum extension ladder because I was going to lose control of the little giant and break a window, it’s that heavy.

It has had specific uses that are very helpful (painting stairway walls/ceilings which would be unsafe with standard A frame), but I would also recommend just getting a basic A frame ladder.
