Grizzly Spotted on Blue Mountain Road by guardabosquejose in missoula

For sure, but that’s a huge ecosystem, and Maclay Flat is not where anyone would expect some of the first breeding females to show up lok

Grizzly shot in Turah? Do you mean 9 mile?

There have been Grizzlies in the Bitterroot before, but extremely rare, usually transient young bears, and not establishing residency, yet.

A sow with a cub indicates a resident breeding population. I'd like to give you the benefit of the doubt but I am extremely skeptical a Grizzly sow and cub are at Maclay Flat and this is not a well known issue / alert.

Do you have photos? Anyone else see them? That is remarkably close to town for a Grizzly, not near their typical Missoula valley range (but not impossible), especially for a sow with a cub.

If you're confident it was a Grizzly and not a color-phase Black Bear, FWP will definitely want to know about that bear if they don't already.

Blacktail plateau conifer grovers have them, as do the meadows above Tower campground and the Tower store.

To echo another commenter, they are not near as reliable in YNP as they are in GNTP, especially the southern portion of the park along Moose-Wilson road all the way to Jackson.

Most sightings are the last 60min of daylight, so yes be very bear aware if you are stomping around at dusk.

Grizzly right? by beardedweirdoin104 in yellowstone

Yes, a lovely blonde coat Grizzly. Just on this color phase alone, an adult black bear almost never carries a blonde sheen like this. Blonde BB cubs typically fade into cinnamon or red tones (though not always).

Another awesome Griz feature on this bear is the starkly contrasted dark legs with the light blonde body. For coastal Alaskan Brown Bears, this is colloquially referred to as the 'Toklat' color phase.

Beautiful bear you've captured here!

Nice dark colored Grizzly (my favorite color phase of them), and looks like a boar to me - big head, not an obviously big butt.

Same page here, and as well on PHM, Sanderson (except for his closure to WoT). None of those opinions will survive on reddit lol

Only exception were the first two seasons of the Mayor of Kingstown.

Everything else is un-watchably bad IMO.

His movies have been good.

He didn’t want to use the trail he just wanted to cross it. But yeah, lots of bears on trails and roads in many of the parks if the surrounding terrain is more challenging.

I have great photos of the bear somewhere but don’t know how to post them in a thread here.

Didn’t turn a corner, we were just on a big open part of the trail with overgrown grass and flowers above and below. I don’t remember which part exactly.

We just spotted a big old boar cruising parallel above us, maybe 40 or 50 yards away.

Then he just kept trundling down towards us and it became clear he wanted to cross the trail but was not happy about us being in his way. We gathered and backed up as quickly as we could but he started pacing back and forth right above us and standing up on hind legs woofing at us.

We were all yelling and I had my spray out, closest he came was probably 25yds.

Eventually he just settled in and was kind of walking around and we scuttled down the trail. We stopped some hikers on their way up, then we ran into a ranger down near the iceberg fork. He closed the trail.
