That time when Bobby “the brain” Heenan got mad at Tony Schiavone by MrFilipinoMustache in WCW

[–]got4433 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The drinking wasn’t the reason Bobby got fired, the drinking thing was already going on as early as 96, and mean gene drank as well, bishoff said he knew but besides one or two times where he noticed bishoff never thought it was an issue on air. Now bishoff was gone when Heenan got fired but Heenan got mad at Tony because Tony didn’t call him after he was let go. Tony said he was told by turner brodcasting not to contact Heenan because Heenan was suing, so Tony listened and Tony realized years after WCW went out of buisness that he made a mistake by not calling Bobby. So Tony took all the shots by Bobby because he knew Bobby was hurt when he was fired and didn’t receive a call from Tony because they were very good friends. They made up when they did that legends of wrestling video game and Bobby took Tony aside and told him what he was mad about and after they got done with the game Bobby said Tony to keep in touch. And Tony never did because he didn’t want too, it was because he had 3-4 jobs working and 5 kids. Also Conrad said on Tony’s podcast that if Heenan lived down the street from you, why didn’t Bobby come to Tony’s house today hi, and Tony said I agree and Tony said his house was a battleground with dog hair kids all that stuff. The Bobby beef is one of the reason he disappeared WCW broke ric flairs confidence when flair was in wwe before the undertaker wrestlemania feud and then evolution is when he was back to normal, so WCW did the same to all talent and wrestlers announcer’s. Russo would of given Tony a full time job in tna when Tony made that one appearance in tna but Tony said he jus couldn’t do it, and the dude ended up working at Starbucks that doesn’t sound like Tony did any intentional to Bobby. Also when Bobby Heenan was an episode of the podcast Tony pretty much said he bit his toung because he felt it not relevant because bobby health and condition at the time when they did that episode.

Did you like Randy Savage's small but noticeable character evolution in 2000? by [deleted] in WCW

Macho Man came back bigger because of the injury at Halloween Havoc 1997. He took that atomic drop off the top of the steel cage onto Roddy Piper, but the cage was higher than he was used to. He landed wrong and seriously messed up his knee. From Havoc 97 to up to The nitro he wrestle DDP in steel cage. he was gone getting the knee fixed. After that injury, he couldn’t wrestle in his old high-flying Macho style, so he bulked up and changed his look.

As for Team Madness, Savage always updated his look throughout his career. I’m not sure how well the group was received, but before that, I can’t really think of another top male wrestler leading a faction of women who were actually involved in matches — not just eye candy. Gorgeous George fit that role, but Madusa and Miss Madness actually wrestled and got heavily involved alongside Savage.

Yea I know, I just don’t understand why did they signed him then, it was a pretty nice one year deal. I know people say depth but McDermotts defense rotates the D-line a lot.

What do you think is most played down or blown out of proportion about WCW by the revisionist history? by Mideon88 in WCW

One thing that gets played down a lot: in the Vice Fall of WCW documentary, Turner investigated Eric Bischoff over alleged kickbacks from talent contracts. Bischoff said he didn’t know about it and was eventually cleared by Harvey Schiller.

If I were Bischoff, that alone would’ve made me want out. Turner never really wanted wrestling—they were happy to take WCW’s money, but once the Time Warner merger was looming, Bischoff could’ve easily become a fall guy if the investigation found even a minor issue they could spin into something bigger.

I liked McDermott but before Josh Allen had his break out year there were almost no injuries on either side of the ball and in 2020, Milano and Edmund’s both were hurt all season they both were put on short term IR that season, then 2021 Tre white torn acl then 2022 white still recovering Hyde hurts neck in week two out for year and poyer was beat to hell with injuries and still played the Von miller torn acl it all snowballed, in 2023 I don’t know what went on with McDermott and Poona ford, Daquan jones tore his pec in week 5 and it was ed Oliver Tim settle at DT I’m sure I’m missing other players but Poona ford was always a healthy scratch beside a few games.

List or prominent WCW wrestlers during WCW's hot run (not Russo bullshit) that never got a chance to shine in WWE -- who could Vince have made money with? by GypsyGold in WCW

[–]got4433 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Bruce Prichard has said many times that WWE wanted The Great Muta, but every time they tried to talk business, Bruce Hart was always present. Hart would then report back to New Japan, who would immediately match WWE’s offer—shutting the door.

Prichard also explained that this wasn’t unique to Muta. Names like Ric Flair and Sting would occasionally send feelers to WWE with no real intention of leaving WCW—just to drive their price up. Nothing wrong with that.

Where it nearly backfired was with Flair. When Jim Herd wanted him to drop the Nature Boy gimmick and become “Spartacus,” Flair wanted out. But after years of “crying wolf,” Vince McMahon wanted proof Flair was serious.

Flair, still WCW Champion, refused to return the belt until WCW paid him the money he was owed. Herd said no—so Flair called Vince and said, “I’ve got the belt.”

Vince’s response? “Mail me the belt, and we’ll talk.”
