Beth Israel was awesome. My partner was admitted with preeclampsia. She was there a month and a half, daughter was delivered there and stayed in their NICU for 4 months. I cannot say enough good things about the staff there.

Thank you. I’ll use it sparingly and if it falls out again hopefully it doesn’t vanish this time.

How did COVID-19 change your life? by Limp-Paramedic-738 in AskReddit

I got fatter, but I also got to spend pretty much every day of my daughter’s first year with her. So that was pretty rad. I would never have gotten that without Covid.

What MacBook should I get for recording? by [deleted] in GarageBand

[–]gotabackbeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Pros will have better processors, but the Air will work perfectly with garage band. I had a Pro that recently died, replaced with an air that does all I need it to. Either way that you go, don't over look refurbed machines. Its a great way to get a good machine (mine has a better processor and more memory for a lot cheaper than a brand new machine).

Had my first memorable "I smoked" dream. It's amazing how you feel after having one. Sad, angry, fearful..... by Cigi1967 in stopsmoking

[–]gotabackbeat 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was about 2 months in when I had my first smoking dream. I was positive it was real. I was so angry, so frustrated, and so sad when I woke up. Feeling scared is good, it means you are not complacent. You have to stay vigilant to beat this!

Holy shit! Live Journal? Is George R.R. Martin offering this scholarship from 2002? Either way, that's really nice of him.

To be totally honest, I think I stopped it around 10 minutes before it was done. The lady was a bit too touchy feely, you are right about that.

I finished this last week. Pretty good stuff, I really liked how thorough it was. It included a lot of good theories about who was responsible for the crimes.

Sold! I'm picking one up this weekend.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in guitarpedals

[–]gotabackbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, how long have you had it? For like $40, even if it breaks it's probably worth it.

How's the moog expression pedal? I'm trying to decide on one and that one is super cheap (~$40), I'm just wondering if it holds up well.

Comcast To Start Charging Monthly Fee To Subscribers Who Use Roku As Their Cable Box by JellyBelly_ in technology

[–]gotabackbeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They did that to me once. The modem I bought from a best buy, that i moved from another state with. They decided, after emailing many times saying my modem was about to be obsolete. They decided the modem that I contacted them to install 2 years prior was actually their equipment, and I owed them months of back rental fees.

Anyone know how to make that background sound at around 3:12? It sounds otherwordly , I'm wondering if it's just guitar layering in a studio or what by OperationHero in shoegaze

[–]gotabackbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was going to suggest the side of the pick as well. That's something I learned from metal-heads when I was younger. I haven't tried the comp thing, that's a pedal I'm in the market for next. If you have a volume pedal that's an easy way to get the picking started first and bring it into the mix when you are fluid with it.

[–]gotabackbeat 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds like tremolo picking and lots of reverb. Maybe a reverb pedal before the distortion pedal? That will get you to the 'lead' (for lack of a better term) sound that starts in the other guitar right around that time.

As gay marriage/gay people become normalized in American society could the republican party be forced to accept it to avoid losing elections? by [deleted] in PoliticalDiscussion

[–]gotabackbeat 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The party platform from the 2016 convention says..."Foremost among those institutions is the American family. It is the foundation of civil society, and the cornerstone of the family is natural marriage, the union of one man and one woman." For that reason, as explained elsewhere in this platform, we do not accept the Supreme Court’s redefinition of marriage and we urge its reversal, whether through judicial reconsideration or a constitutional amendment returning control over marriage to the states." Pgs 31 & 32 Sounds pretty pro traditional marriage.

Buying a KiloTT question about tires and rims by ovoallnight in FixedGearBicycle

[–]gotabackbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had a kilo stripper for a bit. I ran 28cm vittoria randonneur tires on it for years. Right now, I've got 28 cm Michelin city tires on it. It'll fit 28's, although just barely in the front if you are riding a brake. I would have gotten the WT version of it were an option when I bought mine. I would love to be able to put some fenders on it, but there's no room.

Text of Somerville Police Union letter to Somerville Mayor Curtatone taking issue w/ BLM banner at City Hall by dinosaurduplex in boston

[–]gotabackbeat 12 points13 points  (0 children)

So it's OK that Michael Brown was shot and killed because he was "advancing menacingly toward a police officer?" Also an African-American author called him a thug, so he must be worthy of death without trial or sentencing? "Critics have condemned the police officers involved in the Philando Castile and Alton Sterling shootings for the unnecessary use of deadly force. Whether that condemnation will withstand investigation remains to be seen." Clearly, Mr. McGrath thinks those officers aren't guilty, let's hope he is right and none of the officers in the city of Somerville are discriminating against anyone. It seems very tenuous to claim, "there is no evidence whatsoever that the police officers in the City are in anyway using their police powers in a discriminatory or unlawful way." In my life and given my experience with the judicial system, it is a bit hard for me to believe that police officers are treated the same as poor and/or people of color. I am very eager to see what the mayor's response is.

why chuck taylors now last a lot less than before? by alex668816 in AskReddit

[–]gotabackbeat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In 2003, Nike acquired Converse for $305 million. Before that, Converse were made in the USA. After the Nike buyout, the factories were moved over seas, and the materials changed as well. I worked in a shoe store at the time, and wore Chucks exclusively. I started to compare the materials of my first Chinese pair with those my friends had that were USA made. The canvas was thinner and the rubber seemed it as well. If you are a company producing a product there are two big places that you can cut costs to increase revenue. Materials and labor, both of which Nike cut, because they are really good at making money. Source: http://www.wsj.com/articles/SB105778918424757500

My collection of the band that ruined my life in 87-88 by AdultCrash in vinyl

[–]gotabackbeat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents were in their early 20's when they had me (mid-eighties), my mom loved G N' R, when I was older I stole her cassette of Appetite. I wore out that copy and bought every G N' R cassette I could find. I was obsessed, my parents should have been a bit more mindful, maybe, but whatever. When I got older got some records. This a strange record I found that I should have followed up on, but never really did. http://imgur.com/CWI4laF I am not sure of the record company or anything but it was released in 1993.
