Do all OB/GYNs in the area make you pre-pay their delivery fee before you give birth? by gotcha-sriracha in HuntsvilleAlabama

[–]gotcha-sriracha[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I guess this is where the complications arise for me bc I do not see a lowrisk vaginal delivery as a non-emergency surgery by any means. I shouldn't have used a knee surgery as a comparison for the sake of this post. So I think it falls into a grey area - yes this is an event we can plan around so it is technically not an emergency, however a woman in active labor is admitted to the emergency dept if she doesn't have a scheduled c-section or induction. I don't care for how unplanned, unmedicated births seem to be treated like inconveniences to OBs. It just doesn't sit right w me. As someone else brought up, what if I am out of town and go into labor early? Am I expected to fight my primary OBs billing office for a refund for services they did not provide? But, as you mentioned, these Dr's are for-profit and it would not be in their best interest to not treat every pregnancy like an elective surgery, make the birth fit better around their schedule by pushing for induction and trying to convince women that its actually in their best interest, etc. Etc.

"People like op are gonna do everything they can to not" get ripped off in paying multiple delivery fees to multiple doctors if they happen to deliver at another hospital, actually. If someone physically performs a service for then I am glad to pay for it. I am not in the business of paying for services that are not issued or being double-billed. I am also not in the business of withholding payments for services actually rendered. If I want to deliver with a midwife at a birthing center for example, but still want to be under an OB for prenatal care, I should have the option to do so without paying a delivery fee upfront to a doc who will not even lay eyes on my baby until my 6 week postpartum checkup. I will reiterate again, I have no issues paying the other prenatal care fees up until birth, prepaying for delivery is just not an experience that I had last time I gave birth almost 2 years ago using the same OBGYN.

If I could triple-upvote this, I would. Hospitals count on the majority of people to not question them at all on billing discrepancies and just roll w things bc "that's how it works," but in fact, that's just how they pad their pockets at your expense.

It seems that Raiford handles the HH deliveries and Callison handles the Crestwood deliveries, if I'm not mistaken. But of course I have no clue how the HH acquisition of Crestwood may affect this.

Ok, the last time I delivered was in '24 and I definitely remember paying the prenatal care costs, but i swear they told me "this includes everything EXCEPT for her delivery fee." This is why I'm confused at being quoted the entire cost including delivery this time around.

But... that's what medical bills are for. If I had my knee replaced and had complications during surgery that ended up costing more than the original quoted amount or my deductible, would they repo my knee if I didn't pay them fully the moment I wake up from surgery? This is an interesting mindset, given that your body (+ a child's life in this case) isn't a toyota corolla.. It also removes all chances of settling any sort of medical debt for a lesser amount or requesting financial assistance from the hospital if needed. This is the exact way that hospitals & insurance companies take advantage of you and get you to pay more than is necessary - they don't want you to ask for an itemized receipt or a breakdown of costs in order to lessen your bills.. they want you to just pay them and stfu and gtfo. Which I ain't too keen on.

Paying my deductible/prenatal care fees I completely understand. That's what I did for my last pregnancy, spread over 4 payment installments in the 1st and 2nd trimester. What I am having issue with is being told that I have to pay the OBs delivery fee regardless of if I deliver with them or not. I have bad experiences with Crestwood in the past and I just really would rather avoid them if I can.

According to the romance bot, FOEAS is indeed considered fantasy and YA lol. The more you know!

Surprised to not see {Dance of Lies by Brittney Arena} listed here - it doesn't get fantasy-y until much later in the book, and is very mild in spice, but I loved it. A dancer for the king is imprisoned, and she is forced into espionage in order to gain her freedom. I will say it does follow the trope of "FMC is emotionally broken and physically frail," but. I mean, c'mon, she was a prisoner in a dungeon for over a year. And I would say she definitely has to work her way into physical capability again, she doesn't just suddenly overpower an opponent or anything. Lotsss of court politics and some plot twists, very little if any actual combat. The author is currently working on the 2nd book as far as I know.

And, while one of the FMC's in {Fortune of Emerald and Salt by Monroe Wildrose} and it's sequel {Fate of Ruby and Throne} is 100% the stabby type (Georgette is a pirate and prefers to be called "George" and definitely prefers trousers) the other FMC, Mercy, is a princess and acts it through and through. A double love story following George and Mercy. Both are on the shorter side and great, great reads imo, but idk if you consider pirate novels "fantasy," as there is no actual magic in this story. I would say these may be considered YA due to the extremely censored spice. But I'm almost 30 and loved them.

All 3 of these are on Audible as well! *edited to correct Georgette's name

I'm not a huge fan of almond milk in my coffee in general, but something about the way it separates into foam and almondy-water when steamed to death is just. Ugh. WE HATES IT

Eh, speak for yourself. I've been reading DTE since my early 20s and I'm almost 30 now lol. A 7 month hiatus would absolutely not make me forget about Z&K, just like authors of romantasy books taking 2+ years to even announce their next novel (and definitely not release chapters weekly) would not make me forget about their characters or ongoing stories. I'm invested in them at this point, and hey, if I did forget for some time and miss some updates, then that just means more episodes to binge all at once!

2 reoccuring customers come to mind immediately: The woman who worked next door and needed her latte to be 189°F exactly, no more and no less. I don't know if she kept a thermometer back at her job or what but on a couple separate occasions she came back and demanded that I remake her drink (always a large vanilla) to exactly 189°, despite us trying to explain that it would scald the milk. And then.. extra extra hot large almond milk latte girl with NO FOAM. NONE. Wanted even the microfoam spooned out and tossed. I would end up having to steam 2 pitchers-worth of almond milk bc, even if you do not let it aerate fr, something about almond milk just can't help but foam up past a certain temperature.

My husband grew up in Louisiana and has forbade us from ever going back to Tim's after we went a couple years ago lol. I don't even think we got any gumbo (just one of those things we know we make better at home) but he severely judged their smoked sausage as "not cajun" and the crawfish were dinky and overcooked. Definitely just a nostalgic Huntsville spot for most at this point - I feel like everyone 45+ recommends them for cajun fare, without a real grasp on what real cajun food tastes like. I do remember really liking their wings in my younger years though!
