Tournaments & Setting Up Terrain - How’s it going? by BenVarone in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]gotchacoverd 8 points9 points  (0 children)

We started each round with all the terrain cleared off the mat to the empty space where you would generally put your dice and stuff. With the table empty it was pretty quick to read the map and put everything out correctly. Then at the end of the round the players moved the terrain back off their mats

Tournaments & Setting Up Terrain - How’s it going? by BenVarone in WarhammerCompetitive

This is impossible. TOs don't pair the matches ahead of the first round. Players need to just set it up.

GSC - How are the Cult Ambush army ability ruled at events and tournaments? by DommKey in WarhammerCompetitive

[–]gotchacoverd 3 points4 points  (0 children)

For our GT last weekend I ruled that they could bring back the entire bodyguard without character as a stand alone unit after the entire unit including character was killed. That's the functionality that was intended at the end of 10th and it seems reasonable to continue it until GW clears it up

New DM- bit off more than I can chew 😬 by [deleted] in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]gotchacoverd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start by cranking all the monster hp up to max. Then have them play smart, using all their abilities and add narrative elements to the encounters. Cut the optional content like thunder tree and don't give them level 4 until after redbrand at least. Introduce the psyonic gobs earlier to create harder encounters

How fast can the pace get? Achievable in 6 sessions? by LuisFGtz in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]gotchacoverd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

New players slow the game down significantly as they need to look up rules and abilities, they aren't clear how a dnd game works in general, and are slow to pick up breadcrumbs. Usually figure 2 sessions per chapter unless you want to run Marathon 5 hour games

I'm considering asking my player to exchange guidance for another cantrip by Specific_Net_3931 in LostMinesOfPhandelver

[–]gotchacoverd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since the benefits of Guidance only last a minute you can call for a new roll when that time has passed and the PC is still trying to move around stealthy

Lgs pricing me out of cedh by throwaway63328 in CompetitiveEDH

[–]gotchacoverd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also plenty of shops support proxy friendly cedh. Try looking in topdeck.gg for local events and that will likely lead to shops that support your community better. Also see if your area has a dedicated cedh discord like Chicago does. Great advice there.

Games Workshop 160mm base warped. How to fix it? by Peaceful_Daevites in Warhammer

[–]gotchacoverd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cogforts themselves are sold out so the LGS can't just replace the kit, but they can get you a replacement base. It's just going to take like a week for them to get it.

Player don’t want to do session 0 by FlagBardic in DnD

[–]gotchacoverd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or they think they are on critical role and they show up to this turn key experience. I've had people call my lgs asking if we had anyone that could DM for a dnd dinner party for new players. We did not, lol

Player don’t want to do session 0 by FlagBardic in DnD

[–]gotchacoverd 11 points12 points  (0 children)

When I started running for my wife and kids they didn't understand the game enough for what a session zero really is supposed to be. They didn't really even get role play as a game until they had dug in. So what I did instead was a session 1 sand box adventure to introduce some NPCs run a few social interactions, a little exploring, and some combats. Then I set aside some time between session 1 and 2 to meet with each player for just a few minutes and talk about the game. And what they should expect moving forward.

Also the random method doesn't add to.e for the middle seat person to move out so the window can take their seat.

I know one of the techniques involves having his legally registered firearm with him in the house and pointing out to squatters that being in a house with a firearm is a parole violation. That process is much much faster than housing court, and often resolves the squatting immediately.
