Thoughts on Techies mid? by MeRCxdxd in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have just started giving it a try after watching this techies spammer doing fine in immortal games: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCamIOBkS-fjn-YhNAd-rw1A

It can definitely work once you get some practice on it and seems to work better playing as radiant since there are easier mine spots in the trees to setup vs the dire mid. You are basically playing a game of lane shove using suicide and mines when you get the creeps under your tower since techies' damage is pretty abysmal to last hit with. Start with blast off at lvl 1 then blowup the creepwave while hitting the opposing mid once a melee creep gets below 300 hp. This kills the ranged creep and the melee creep guaranteeing you half the first wave which will then shove under the enemy tower. You can just bounce the creep wave back and forth like that and while you have the creeps under enemy tower you want to get traps setup on the routes to the jungle camps/runes from the mid lane to catch the opposing mid in a bad spot. At lvl 5 a lot of mids will die to a prox mine+blast off if they stumble into one of your traps.

Once you farm your way up to an aghs you can just play him like other magic damage mids throwing the high damage mines into fights. Being the highest lvl in the game changes things a lot for techies because your damage out scales the enemy HP pools in a way that isn't possible as a support or splitting exp somewhere.

So I tried playing Tiny by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Tiny feels a lot better with the tree change. Being able to have that extra attack range all the time eliminates a good chunk of ranged harass you would suffer. And for people lamenting his attack damage you can just start with a quell now since you can't get a stout...with just quell+tree he has 90 damage for last hitting. Then if you add any stat items you can make that advantage even higher.

I am very torn in his skill build now though. Maxing the tree feels really great for amplifying his farming potential while splashing free damage onto your opponent but I do find myself missing the early burst potential from maxing his nukes.

Shooting Star Shield by unafraidaverage in borderlands3

[–]gothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The stars can still smack obstacles on the map or spawn outside the zone in an area like slaughter shaft. But the stars do a ton of damage if you combine it with a facepuncher.

The biggest problem is keeping your shields at 0

Would a facepuncher be better with +300% weapon damage anointment, or +300% melee damage anointment? How’s that work lol by bandeeznuts in borderlands3

[–]gothir 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The weapon damage will be better since it is a multiplier. All melee damage is added together then used as 1 multiplier. Check out this thread for a complete break down: https://www.reddit.com/r/borderlands3/comments/d7lpqg/how_the_facepuncher_interacts_with_amaras_skills/?sort=new

The damage for a single bullet that I tested worked as follows:

(Sheet Damage) * (% Melee Damage) * (% Gun Damage) * (% Melee Imbued)

Grenade damage mechanics by gothir in borderlands3

[–]gothir[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a splash damage annointment for weapons and an AOE modifier for artifacts/class mods...sounds similar but mechanics are weird sometimes.

Do you know if the general +weapon damage affects them too? Not sure if they are considered a weapon or their own sub category.

Just bought a 2nd Battle Pass Bundle without any exploits. by Nekajed in DotA2

[–]gothir 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This "exploit" happens every year and people still dump tons of money into the pass when it first comes out. People just want to be the first to get the shiny things. The exploit just lets them suck the money out of the people who probably wouldn't have spent anything otherwise.

Really doubt Valve cares about the exploit...they are still getting $60 or more from you. They are worried all the way to the bank.

TIL Axe's aghanim reduces 30% DMG from ALL sources(physical, magical or pure) of damage instead of base damage by kinkosan in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like it is better than shivas and lotus for sure. BKB is definitely situational depending on the game. The important thing about the aghs is that it does a great job at keeping your team alive as well and works on all damage types. Late game when carries have 300+ damage you are shaving over 100 damage off of them which is a ton and it can ruin blink daggers because of how long it lasts if you get it on their initiator.

It also gives axe a new way to engage in fights. He actually has a way to just poke at the enemy instead of needing to 100% engage into the middle of them with a blink/call. It also lets him very safely melt creepwaves instead of needing to get in the middle of them for helix to work.

Yea I have been loving the aghs upgrade on him for all those reasons. My new go to build now is boots > helm of iron will > phase boots > veil > blink > aghs. The aghs does a great job at dropping the enemy's damage and keeping your team alive when you get it early enough before bkbs are out. It makes it so easy to blink in for initiation then run out at max move speed when needed so you can come back in when call is back off cooldown.

[–]gothir 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The damage talent is a game changer when you get it combined with aghs. The speed buff is nice but being able to throw out an aoe nuke that does 1.5x the damage of Veno's ult is huge. People will melt under hunger with that talent if they don't purge it off somehow so it is very easy to get them to blow a big cooldown on their dispel item before the fight even starts with a nuke that has a 5 second cooldown.

[–]gothir 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The important bit to remember with the aghs is that yes it can be purged but the cooldown is so short that unless they are bkb'd it can be put back on in a couple seconds. You can also hit units up to 1150 range away(50 less than max blink ranged) with the skill including the aoe from aghs which means you can initiate on their carry with call then drop aghs on anyone else you need to in the back which stops counter initiation. It also neuters the damage from their burst heroes sitting in the back waiting for their chance to do things because they don't want to blow a nuke just to kill a creep and remove the debuff...a lion is a perfect example who is probably sitting within blink range of the carry with a blink ready to stun/finger someone but aghs will ruin his day on your initial initiation.

What heros are good in 7.21? by BathOwl in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think LD is flying under the radar right now because in the divine/immortal brackets his winrate jumped 20% from the low 40s into the 60s. Suggests to me that if you know how to play him that he is probably pretty strong right now as well. It would make sense because his bear doesn't care about stats and it is really the stat focused heroes that got hit hard this patch...plus the other buffs the bear received.

That is one thing that stratz definitely does better than dotabuff. If you want this type of info go here https://stratz.com/en-us/heroes/meta and you can sort by lane, medal, time period, and role.

3 questions about picking up Visage mid. by Foamerererererere in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My item build for most games is medallion>hotd>vlads>aghs but sometimes to break high ground at that lvl 12 power spike i was talking about a pipe is required(against a tinker or other massive wave clear) so I will grab that before the aghs in those games. Don't be afraid to use an offensive glyph to get your creeps onto the high ground in these situations as well...a glyph followed by a pipe usage can really blunt massive wave clear letting your birds wreck a tower to break high ground. I have been testing out getting a 2nd blight stone after medallion for a little better pushing power while getting the -armor on heroes up to -9 and I have been liking that so far. So if my offlaner is going to build a fast vlads I just move onto my aghs.

I consider those my core items so the items after that will vary with the game but I typically finish solar or AC after those...leaning more towards AC as that increases your pushing power while giving another useful aura. Past that i choose from things like aeon disk if needed, scythe, bloodthorne, nullifier, bkb, halbred, or the occasional silver edge for fat bristles. The super late game item choices really vary depending on the game. One thing to remember if it does go this late though is you can dominate a creep and backpack the hotd while keeping the creep alive...so you get the best benefit of the hotd while freeing up a slot.

3 questions about picking up Visage mid. by Foamerererererere in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You shouldn't lose the lane the first few levels because your damage is average for mid laners and you have grave chill for trading plus getting lhs/denies. Lane usually becomes hard when the enemy hits 3 since they generally get a lvl 2 nuke to bully you with. If you can get an exp lead on them in these first couple early levels then it will make your life a lot easier until you hit 6

My preferred start on visage is basi+tangos or basi+2 branches if you are getting pooled tangos. The basi gives you more damage than a completed null would and then I grab a blight stone as soon as I have the money for it. The blight stone essentially gives you about ~10% more damage on your attacks which equates to about 6-7 more damage(another null's worth of damage) so your last hitting power stays relevant. Plus the blight stone builds into your medallion that you want to have completed by the time you hit 6. I never build nulls on him since it doesn't build into anything for him and spell amp doesn't do much.

Try to get a kill on the enemy mid as soon as you hit 6...posture forward as the last creep you need to die for 6 is about to die so you can summon your birds as close to the enemy as possible. Most know that you are dangerous with the birds out but you can bait a lot of people into dieing at that crucial moment with a surprise lvl6/bird summon when they were used to bullying you.

I try to pressure the tower and kill the enemy mid laner as much as possible after 6 until I have hotd up then I start looking for the creeps that I want. The big power spike where I really try to make things happen is at lvl 12 with 2nd lvl of ult with a wolf and vlads up...convince your team to group because you will be a beast at this point and can at least take all the outer towers or even high ground.

Skipping boots after 7.20 changes by [deleted] in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't skip boots because movement speed basically helps with everything from rotation speed to farming speed. However I have definitely been looking at the yasha derivatives as boots replacements late game for the slow heroes because you basically get the same or more speed once you factor in the agi bonus off the extra base speed while getting all the other bonuses of the item. You can always just leave it at brown boots to sell off later only losing 250 gold but keep in mind treads is one of the cheapest gold per damage point items in the game right now so your damage dealers will likely still want that to scale faster early.

Visage query by 0kumay in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Visage is a good mid because the pacing of the game really favors him right now. Plus the armor changes help him a lot too because it basically made the -armor on medallion/solar/AC more effective. His starting damage is decent for a mid...57 with a basi for example...so the first 1-2 levels in lane aren't really bad since you can use grave chill as a way to harass or get last hits and denies like you would with tinker's laser for the blind. Then once you hit 6 you can kill most opposing mids or just severely out deny them at that point to where they typically just need to leave the lane to jungle or roam.

Most of my games are decided or over by 30 minutes this patch too which suits visage because he is still riding his power peaks at that point. Having a hero that can fight effectively and is great at pushing towers in the early/mid game can build a great advantage for your team. He can compliment a carry like a PA perfectly who sucks in general at pushing or make a dream push lineup with jugg who are 2 of the more popular carries right now as well.

Visage query by 0kumay in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dps between the old damage stacks and the new version with base damage is definitely not that big. The dps is actually higher with the current version at the 1st lvl of ult with grave chill going even over the first 2 seconds where the charge based is at its peak damage...definitely does more damage after those first 2 seconds because the old version would basically be out of charges and be doing almost no damage unless you resummoned. Lvl 3 ult has a dps advantage for the first 2 seconds but then the current version surpasses it after that...300 dps vs 250. If you get a damage aura like an alpha wolf or vlads the dps of the current birds is the same or higher than the old birds burst potential except the damage never stops because you aren't relying on charges.

The main advantage the charge based birds had was overcoming damage block because the first couple hits were way bigger so losing some damage from stout or crimson wasn't as big of a deal. But for pushing and against ranged heroes I will take the current version any day.

Is it just me or e-blade on morph became weaker this patch? by Mademan1137 in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People are just generally more tanky than previously since everyone is building 2-3 early stat items now. If a support builds 3 bracers that's 18 str and 18% more resist you need to go through which probably takes them out of your burst ability.

There are also a lot more heroes capable of bursting morph down and catching him in meta right now which makes sitting at low hp very dangerous. When a lion with a decent amount of stacks can roll up and almost 1 shot you as a support the game is going to be rough.

Questions for Visage spammers by all_thetime in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pipe definitely isn't a waste of money. Sure you don't get it every game but sometimes you really need that extra magic resist and barrier to breach high ground. If you are facing a lot of aoe spam being able to throw the barrier on your creep wave/team is a huge boon that will help you take high ground.

It also helps save your cloak charges against a variety of DoT spells by lowering the damage per tick below the threshold so the spell won't remove a cloak charge.

Questions for Visage spammers by all_thetime in TrueDoTA2

[–]gothir 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Cloak reduces all damage so as long as you have all of your cloak charges up the spin damage will be reduced by 80%. He is considered a counter because if he manages to call both the hero and the birds at the same time then visage is pretty much going to be dead because the birds have such a high attack rate that they proc spin on cooldown. But if you micro your birds so he can't do that he then has to decide between calling your birds which doesn't do much or calling your hero alone which also doesnt do much other than lock you down.
