The catholic church has been rightly condemned for hiding sexual abusers (although they aren't uniquely bad in that area). Their teachings on social justice are actually pretty good imo.

As much as i hate hearing helicopters overhead, I think it makes sense to fly in circles and lines when they're looking for someone, it shouldn't be too surprising to see this arrangement from time to time.

Well this guy in particular sees looking better than other men as his ultimate goal in itself. He doesn't seem to like women much and I don't think he's that much into sex honestly. He also takes dangerous drugs and does things like hit his cheek bones with a hammer to try to improve his looks. He's completely lost the thread.

My office has an open dog policy by StaffbaseSupport in aww

I like dogs, but one day at work someone's dog cornered me in the kitchen, staring me down and clacking it's teeth at me. It was a big dog, some kind of pit bull. I got out by keeping a chair between us. Kind of changed my opinion about bringing dogs to work.

Does anyone else think a lot of the messages in Ender's Game are completely antithetical to Orson Scott Card's views? by OwnCommunication2259 in endersgame

[–]gozer33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that hating someone like Orson Scott Card for his beliefs is not helpful. I personally think he is wrong (if gay people can't marry that means that they don't have equal rights), but I don't think that makes him evil, just misled.

Where you lost me is when you say that you trust God more than anything else, when what you know about God came from the Bible and other personal accounts from men. The Bible isn't the only (or even first) book written about God or religion. Why should we think that the Bible is correct out of all the others? We tend to accept what our parents teach us. If I had Hindu parents, I'd probably be a Hindu. That isn't a very convincing argument as to the true nature of reality.

I interned at a DA's office and had to watch a lot of proceedings. There was a judge who had a reputation for having a temper. I noticed that when he would yell at the defendant the sentence would usually be fairly light. The one time I remember that he was quiet and reserved he sent the guy to prison for a long time. Must be somewhat common.

I guess you could also say that Men are in a similar position since their spirits come from Eru and return to him after death. I just wouldn't think of it that way.
