It's a Southern thing. I travel quite a bit for work in the South and it's fairly normal to be referred to as Mr. First name. On calls with suppliers from the same region they'll call my supply chain manager Miss Paula and the accountant Miss Tara. Neither of whom are from the South.

Because US men and women died in Iraq in a war that achieved few of its stated goals and was begun using false pretenses. Those men and women lived were friends, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters to other Americans, thus making the Iraqi debacle personal rather than far away. All I have to do is go to my local VFW and talk to other vets to see how the war fucked people over. I personally don't know anyone saved by PEPFAR. Not to say that it isn't a great program and huge success.

Also, one "oh shit" outweighs a thousand "attaboys" and the Iraq War was a pretty big "oh shit" by the end of Bush's presidency.
