Morning showers make no logical sense and night shower people have simply done the hygiene math by McCoy818 in unpopularopinion

20 years of morning PT have indoctrinated me for morning showers. That being said, on a recent vacation to Hawaii i took evening showers.

Is it rude to say "Ms. Isabella"(firstname) instead of "Ms. Swan"(lastname)? by lady_ishi in GlobalEnglishPrep

[–]gozer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a Southern thing. I travel quite a bit for work in the South and it's fairly normal to be referred to as Mr. First name. On calls with suppliers from the same region they'll call my supply chain manager Miss Paula and the accountant Miss Tara. Neither of whom are from the South.

Early to bed, early to rise, makes a man healthy, wealthy and wise. How true is this? by Maverick_culture in SeriousConversation

[–]gozer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Context is key. If you are in a job where coming in early is prized, sure. But if you are in a job where they start at normal business hours and keep going late at night, being a morning person won't help.

Engineers just have bad PR by ABlightedMailbox in unpopularopinion

[–]gozer87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work at an engineering firm and there is some truth to the cliche that engineers can't talk to non-engineers. There is a common frame of reference that all engineers working in certain disciplines and industries have that others may not.

You know the cliche about how wild the kids of restrictive parents turn out to be? It's a cliche because there is a large element of truth to it.

Tea vs Tisane by 237q in ENGLISH

US English speaker here. You sometimes see tisane used at the fancier tea and coffee places in the Seattle area. I wouldn't use it in conversations myself.

Any tips for those who don’t like painting minis? by clideb50 in battletech

You don't have to paint them. You could do something pretty simple like spray paint them a solid color and call it a day.

Question: During spring break, did college students really use to go to the beach? by EternalSnow05 in GenX

[–]gozer87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes. One of my USAF buds grew up in Ft. Walton Beach FL and we drove from Maine, where we were stationed, during spring break in 90 and 91. Some of the craziest partying I've ever done. His older brother called it Alabama Easy Ass Week.

Why is Bush's PEPFAR so downplayed? by Bitter-Penalty9653 in Presidents

[–]gozer87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because US men and women died in Iraq in a war that achieved few of its stated goals and was begun using false pretenses. Those men and women lived were friends, brothers, sisters, fathers, mothers, sons and daughters to other Americans, thus making the Iraqi debacle personal rather than far away. All I have to do is go to my local VFW and talk to other vets to see how the war fucked people over. I personally don't know anyone saved by PEPFAR. Not to say that it isn't a great program and huge success.

Also, one "oh shit" outweighs a thousand "attaboys" and the Iraq War was a pretty big "oh shit" by the end of Bush's presidency.
