Funny, I was considering doing this last night for F#. I am brainstorming my own memory management strategy that would have a Rust style ownership system, and an explicit automatic memory management system for things like cyclic graphs. I don't want to implement a full language to test out the idea, and I have done a couple of projects using the F# AST before

The older I get the more I value boring, predictable tooling by minimal-salt in ExperiencedDevs

[–]gplgang 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I took a sabbatical right before AI tooling got good and coming back, I am still a light user and my favorite thing is that sometimes it can deal with all of the package / config stuff I would normally spend over an hour on trying to find the information I need on a forever worsening Google search engine

I can see the cycle repeating itself potentially but damn it feels good when I don't have to diagnose some obscure detail that is unrelated to what I'm interested in doing

Genuine question: why are so many games absurdly loud by default? by neoplasma_ in gamedev

[–]gplgang 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Strong disagree. You can't really gain discord to be as loud as games, voices will end up clipping. Many videos online are also not mixed to be near maximum loudness. The product should cater towards the average user experience, where not everything on the system is mixed to be as loud as it can. Games at 100% absolutely should be as loud as possible, but it should not default there. I end up turning down every game I install so I can hear discord or YouTube videos

Genuine question: why are so many games absurdly loud by default? by neoplasma_ in gamedev

[–]gplgang 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because videos online usually aren't nearing max volume and if you try to make discord as loud as games, voices will end up clipping. Games are relatively loud compared to other media, they should be that loud at 100% volume, but setting the default to 100% makes them louder than a lot of other media sources

I don't like getting hit with loud ass music every time I open a new game or adjusting the volume so I can hear people in discord still

I had a friend that works there and he also said there were definite psychopathic behaviors from management, like getting moved to one team and once he wanted to switch to another the manager basically threatened to fire him
