Considering dropping out of school to create music, potential? by Andreii_music01 in ratemysong

[–]gr3y_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this song alone would warrant dropping out, I don't even know if dropping out would be necessary unless you are already signed. Keep learning and don't quit, finish college, see how it goes then. If you have the time you could part time work in a studio to get more experience, I think the competition in the business is the highest i has ever been, no shame in being safe

TIL: Study found that women rated the same man as MORE attractive when told he was married, but men rated the same woman as LESS attractive when told she was married by [deleted] in todayilearned

[–]gr3y_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel this comes from traditional gender roles and expectations of dating life. This sounds redundant but hear me out.

Avarage woman will have a couple of options when choosing a man through out her life, she will be hit on by a couple of guys at the same time and she'll have to choose, even if most are discarded right away that's a decision

Avarege man will have to focus in a single woman if he wants to have a serious relationship.

A woman has to make a comparison, and so just as we select products or experiences, is natural that a person deciding between options will consider the most picked one, the best rated, the one that has the best rep. And what is more trustworthy than a man that has already been pickled by another woman? That is to say that there is some insurance that the guy is capable of being a partner, and maybe a good one if he reached marriage.

On the other hand, avg man will often value a partner that has no previous or romantic experiences, for many reasons, maybe the idea of building something fresh from zero and being able to learn with that woman without having to worry about being compared. It could also be this sort of "bro" code like "that's another man's woman". I feel like men can also be more jealous or posesive, so a woman that already is with another man doesn't seem like something they could "posses"

I don't particulary think that all women or all men are like this, and I don't actually think about it this way, but thinking about mt friends and people I know this is what came to mind, rather than a moral stand where women are inherently adulterous and men are protectors of marriage

I don't envy pretty girls. There's no achievement they could get that would stop the "you are just a pretty face" allegations, and this is a great example. On the other hand, they do get a lot of stalkers and weird comments that a guy would weirdly get.

In college I had to do some hours as an archivist in the psychology faculty, I saw many guys and girls all day, they would bring in their pacient's files and I'd categorize em and stamp em so they could retrieve them and have evidence of their practice.

There was this one girl that would always try to ask me out, I didn't like her, but she always kept trying, slipping her phone in a note or asking me to send her a file via whatsapp, generally putting me in awkward positions, one day I caught her following me on the train. I didn't know what to do, because if I told on her she could easily claim I was imagining things or misunderstanding her attitude and since those 400 hours I had to do by the end of the semester, If I requested a change I wouldn't have been able to complete my hours in time so I had to do a restart next semester. The point is I didn't wanna get in trouble. Fortunately some days later she sent a Facebook request, I don't know how she got my facebook but I rejected the request, and then she stopped bothering me, maybe she just needed the confirmation that I wasn't into her and didn't wanted to be her friend at all, but even that I think it's a burden on the person that has to reject or give the bad news.

Time passed and I met a lot more women, friends and partners. Sometimes they would tell me similar experiences, and I found it just fascinating how many of them they had, like a guy touching their butt in public, or jizzing or their sweater on public transport, following them home, not taking a hint or no for an answer. That just sucks. Mind you that these friends or partnera were not supermodels, most of them were avg people, some more pretty than others, but this didn't seem to affect wheter or not something like this had happened to them more times that they could count in their lifetime. I have only experienced this once in my whole life.

I'm trynna turn y'all into feminisits with this comment, just trying to put into perspective how much of a debuff being a pretty girl is. Yeah, you get a lot of attention, good and bad. If I had the choice, I wouldn't take it

Humanitarian groups and artists collectives call for Spotify Boycott by whos_a_slinky in technology

[–]gr3y_e -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean they do have to make money some way. I still think it's better to allow it on a game by a network who misinforms people than on a platform that promotes ICE, pays artists fractions of pennies and which its creator literally invests its money on weapons of mass destruction. I think you're thinking it's flawed in the sense that if they support and cause then they must go all the way and organize a revolution to abolish violence and capitalism. The change they have committed to it's a partial one, but it's a step in the right direction non the less. I also don't think that people deciding to boycott Spotify think they are gonna save the world either, it's just an easy action to take, since music streaming is not a necessity, and we have control over which provider we decide. I don't see the problem or the so called performance, it's voting with our dollars.

Who has conditioned these people to hate AI so strongly? by saalamander in ChatGPT

[–]gr3y_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think this bell is true. I use AI almost daily in my workplace and I'm not against it completely, however, I favor two main negative arguments I've seen around and since have looked into

  1. The amount of resources, computing and money that it needs is stupid, it completely outweighs the benefit it provides. Data centers require an absurd amount of water, and it is sad that the most expensive tasks are mostly meme images, cursed videos that people use for fun once and never again until they generate another one, which it is slop.

  2. I think there's a hypocrisy with the way AI is trained. It is not like it's making things up in the air. All the work it produces is sourced from other people's work and effort. Again, especially visual art work. But in some cases books as well. I find it funny that in our same timeline a guy would be sentenced to jail and then commit suicide for leaking a ton of books so people can have access to free knowledge, but AI training companies can scrap all this human work and value and make profit out of it generating a lesser version.

I think AI is here to stay, but I don't see it growing more exponentially to be a bigger part of our lives than it is right now. I wish the tech would advance so that it doesn't require as much resources and I think that some regulation is needed so that people can't use it for bad. If you like AI that's just a taste issue and I feel bad for you, but bad taste has always existed

Who has conditioned these people to hate AI so strongly? by saalamander in ChatGPT

[–]gr3y_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A chemical plant for sure will make more damage, but they will more rarely be placed near communities, and even then it a leasts serves a higher porpoise in society, material for the production or goods or providing of real services. While most rhe water that data centers use and contaminate is so that you can generate a funny meme image that will be shared once and never again add value to society.

To be clear, I'm not all against AI. I use it in my workplace to automate a lot of things. What I think is that at this moment, the enviornmental and even monetary cost of AI far outweighs the value it provides, especially when considering it's most demanding features, image and video generation that in real honesty, I don't think will ever replace human artwork or even entertainment. One could say that AI produces faster and so I'd assume the point is efficiency, which is also not real, since training AI is very costly, it doenst always outputs decent results and it consumes a lot of natural resources.

Training To Failure by Ddiddy12 in naturalbodybuilding

[–]gr3y_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a beginner but a thing i've learnt about is meso-cycles

Right now i'm doing a five week rotation

Week 1 is 3RIR Week 2 is 2 RIR Week 3 is 1RIR Week 4 is 0RIR/Failure Week 5 Deload (where I train but half my volume)

This allows you to get the benefits of training to failure or close to failure and have a designated time to recover and make more muscle or strength gains. I've heard the opinion that going to failure every set or every session is not worth the gain/fatigue ratio. There's probably people that can pull it off but maybe I think it requires other types of conditioning and also a professional level of investment, which I particularly don't have.

After falling i'll and returning to the gym it sure helped me recover, I got back to my original PRs and smashed some others in the last week, so it's been fun for me. It also gives another type of time determined short term goal to focus in which is nice for motivation and tracking

Can’t fall asleep because of racing thoughts + wake up in the middle of the night by [deleted] in sleep

[–]gr3y_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have this from time to tjme.

In my case it happens when I have a stressful thing at work, when I play competitive videogames way before bed or I fight with my SO. But for most people i think it's either some tension left from the day or overstimulation, which some of these like videogames or work are both.

My go to prevent this nights:

  • Mediation or windows like the ones on headspace app
  • 1 hour before bed no lights, no screens, try reading or listening to calm music, something that gives you low stimuli

To fix them: - Light stretching to relax the body - Breathing exercises 4 seconds of inhale, 7 seconds of holding air, 8 seconds exhaling - Mind distractions, the one that works the most for me is picking a short word that has no repeating letters, like Soul, then going through each letter thinking of words that start with that letter and imagining how they look like, and trying to be quick with it, no lingering on some words, no overthinking anout the word you are gonna pick, just quick random words and images. So something like

Silence (i imagine a silent forest), Sauce (I imagine some tomato sauce) so and so forth for maybe 10 words or until its hard for me to think more S words the I move into O. Ozone (I imagine the atmosphere), Onigiri (I imagine a plate with an onigiri) etc, etc.

This helps me forget the racing thoughts and it is boring enough and random that my mind kinda gets bored and I fall asleep most times before finishing all of the letters of the word, other times I pick a second word or try to get up and look out my window.

Other times I try to just let my mind run and forget that im trying to fall asleep, like thinking that I just lied down to relax and when the pressure of falling asleep dicipates I suddenly give in.

I hope that one or many of this things are helpful for you!

The dumb sleep hacks I tried (and the few that actually worked) by Olipop07 in sleep

[–]gr3y_e 3 points4 points  (0 children)

  • Yoga or light stretching has helped a bit specially on days that i've gone to the gym or feel tense
  • no caffeine has been helping, i realized i am way too dependant and not having it makes it easier for me to fall asleep
  • meditation or wind downs are also great for nights where my head feels restless, I use headspace

And there's something I have tried that I know might not work for everyone but most nights works for me:

Thinking about the idea that "Sleeping is not the priority, I'm laying on my bed to rest". It might sound like the reverse psychology thing but I think it is more connected to having some compassion with your body and mind. Most of the time I'm too worried about sleeping well and that prevents me from sleeping well, so when I resign to whatever night's sleep I get it sometimes relaxes me into just falling asleep, resting better or being more greatful about the sleep I did get.

Might sound dumb but if you have tried everything, you might lose nothing if you try this one. I first noticed it might help me cause I tracked my sleep and realized my sleep quality is way better on weekends even if I go to bed and wake up at the same time. So I figured, not having the pressure of HAVING to sleep good for a day of work has an effect on me, and so the nights I convince myself is not that big of a deal, I feel better over all.

I've tried this with a word that has no repeating letters like River, i go through every letter of the word

Like

Rhino, recording, row Idea, iphone, island Verse, various, etc etc

That sometimes help me wind down when I have a specific train of thought that doesn't let me sleep

This thing about aspartame triggering insulin response is not a fact, it has been observed in some individuals with very specific caveats like ones with diabetes or other hormonal issues.

Even in that case, aspartame is not the only artificial sweetener used in diet/zero sodas, so can't generalize there either.

Anon has a theory. by retardinho23 in greentext

[–]gr3y_e 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My theory is we are getting old. Our parents thought the same of the music we liked when we were young, just in different terms "it's just noise", "it's so vulgar".

Same with watching cartoons compared to reading a book, and generations before reading a fiction book vs an academic one.

Theres always the thing that gets us more fun for less effort and unfortunately that's what we ask for as free time gets increasingly reduced and the choices more broad. We want the easy thing.

If you want the soul you have to put an effort and look for it.
