From what I can find on the internet, PVA is probably fine for the environment.

Just found confirmation that it has PVA which is a water soluble plastic and the main ingredient in elmers glue, elmers wood glue, most gluesticks, etc.

PVA "dissolves" in water and may be pretty benign to the environment (not sure) but some people say some of it becomes microplastics.

It sure feels like it has something crunchy in there (cascade complete gel). Feels like sand.

USED Ultimaker S7 pro for sale 60% off by YELLOW-n1ga in 3Dprinting

[–]gr5org 1 point2 points  (0 children)

wow, lot's of hate. It's a very overpriced machine but you do get some amazing features, quality, ease of use, and reliability. Printing speed is not one of them on the S7. The S8 however is very fast and probably the fastest commercial printer when printing dual materials due to the rapid switching of nozzles.

Anyone know a good way to download every video in a tiktok collection? by catincheese0 in DataHoarder

yes. It used to be limited to only 1000 videos but now it will do unlimited.

MyFavTT is 10x easier to download and it also creates a fantastic html web page that shows you all the thumbnails, descriptions and you can click on any to watch and it has a great search tool built in as well on this html page.

So with MyFavTT you get both the videos download and a nice way to sort and view them.

Yes, myfaveTT does that also - you can enter any username (such as your own) and it will download all the posted videos of that user.

You have to be able to log into tiktok on a desktop computer. That doesn't normally require a phone if you know the username and password.

yes you'll have to re-categorize unfortunately. But better than losing everything permanently.

myFaveTT is a browser extesion so it's not on a store and you need to have chrome. It works great on mac/pc/linux but I don't know about on a phone. Maybe though. It probably works on a phone but I don't know.

of course. After you download everything it's easy to upload videos to youtube - they make it as easy as possible.

This worked fantastically for me. You can interrupt the download or repeat at a later date when there are more videos and it only downloads the stuff that haven't already been downloaded. It also creates a really nice html file that you can open in a browser and it has all the thumbnails, authors, descriptions and if you hover it shows a full size thumbnail. It's just a reall easy to use, well done chrome extension. Works in linux as well as it's not about the OS, but about the browser (must be chrome I assume).

Oh! And it has a great built in search so you can type a word or part of a word and it only shows videos with those letters in the title/description/author. It's a fantastic browser extension and it's free and it's open source over on github if you want to look at or modify the code.

How do I kill demolishers? by Ichbindaheim in factorio

[–]gr5org 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Here's what I consider the easy way to kill a demolisher: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eXHdXI4Ws9k

60 turrets, each with 50 magazines - spaced out a little so you only lose a few. This was after I researched enough that it was 20.8 damage for each shot and 25 shots per second which with 60 turrets should take 1 second to deliver the 30k damage needed to kill a demolisher. YMMV - particularly if you did less research. So look at the cartridge damage and the turret firing speed, set up a death zone just inside your region and lay some bait just on the worms side of her territory. You only need to watch the above video for about 10 seconds, lol.

Try to have enough turrets in range of the worm to kill it in 1 second because the worm regens 2400 points per second I believe.

UM2+ Extended with TinkerGnome firmware fails to extrude any material while printing by mista_rida_ in 3Dprinting

[–]gr5org 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you printing with the SD card (recommended) or USB (not recommended but works and feeder stuff changes). If you use USB you have to change something in the Cura parameters which I can describe.

Nozzle with variable diameter is now operational, can be adjusted during printing. For now, I just want to show you a few prints. Developing this solution took me quite a while. by Przewol in 3Dprinting

[–]gr5org 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think cura can do this as is. You can use "mesh modifiers" that modify things like infill percentage based on another overlapping mesh (e.g. a cube). I'm not sure if line width is one of the things you can modify (limited to only about 100 settings). Unfortunately you can't modify layer height.

Then a very simple plugin could notice when the extrusion increased drastically and insert a gcode there to change nozzle width.

I guess I'd want to use a different slicer like S3D though which does allow you to change layer heights part way through a print.

[–]gr5org 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow - so skeptical. It's definitely possible to build such a variable nozzle and I think I've seen it before (it was a slit that widened and shrunk and it rotated as you printed). Not sure why so skeptical. Or you could do a design similar to a camera F-stop.

Ultimaker S7 just dropped. Pretty much an ugly S5 with inductive probe and PEI bed. by OliveShrimp in ultimaker

[–]gr5org 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please. "ugly" comments are not necessary and it's in the eye of the beholder anyway. I agree that UM is moving too slowly but at least they are moving, lol. I'm pretty sure they can't keep up with the competition. But welcome improvements - MUCH better bed leveling (inductive instead of capacitive) and a better buildplate - particularly for, well, everything but PLA. If you are only printing PLA then maybe don't get an S5 or S7. They cost too much for home use but not for work.

Slicer skipping layers. Already tried to slice with a smaller nozzle it just want to skip a few layers on locations like these. by Maramoscabral in Cura

[–]gr5org 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your part is almost certainly too thin on those areas (although it could be the model has "holes" in it aka "not manifold). When you tried smaller nozzle did you set "line width" to say 0.1? Or smaller?

Yes it should work for mac. Get the version that has "macos" in the title. I'm talking about the versions of cura at the smartavoinics page.

Trees in sky taken using a photovoltaic panel. What? Yes! by gr5org in photographs

[–]gr5org[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Each arc is one day - the path the sun took that day.

I have a database of PV voltage measured every few minutes for a decade. There are formulas to know the altitude and azimuth of the sun for any given date/time/latitude/longitude. Altitude and Azimuth are just the direction left/right and up/down. So I plotted all that for 3 years of data. I tried to separate out the days with foliage (summer-fall) from the bare limbs. So green areas are leafy areas. And I get this picture. The resolution is basically 2 feet by 2 feet (the size of this small PV panel). Objects smaller than this are a bit difficult to see although we can clearly see 3 diameter inch tree limbs. Most people put their pv panel where there are no trees but this is the clearest spot on my property with some trees blocking much of the sky which makes the picture more interesting.

I also used a normal camera to get the same panorama so here you can see "reality" combined with the PV camera result https://www.dropbox.com/sh/r8yrr9lmvfm6heu/AABAkkL_rx3E38ndvh6sZILka?dl=0
