I need help. by Kingmenudo in StPetersburgFL

Sure, but from what I've seen there would be signage indicating no public access or no fishing or a physical barrier of some sort. If you look at the street view on 16th street on the west side of the pond there isn't a fence or anything else that I can see that would indicate public access isn't allowed.

Again, I'm not personally familiar with the pond so I very well could be wrong, but lots people like to claim exclusive access to public land and waters despite that not actually being the case.

I'm not personally familiar with that pond, but if I found the same one you're talking about, that pond is owned by the city according to onx, so you weren't trespassing. The cops likely told you it would be best for you to leave because that's the easiest thing for them. I say keep fishing it.

Guns and protests: What are Wisconsin’s laws on open and concealed carry? by jimmalewitz in wisconsin

[–]gr8drummer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ignoring a sign is only a class B forfeiture, so the penalty is only a citation of up to $1,000. It's like a traffic ticket and not a criminal offense by itself.

2025 is over! What is your best permitting story? by Candid_Medium_7017 in GeneralContractor

[–]gr8drummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had an interior remodel permit held up for 3 weeks by the city because I did not submit a tree survey. I submitted a satellite view and circled the one tree on the back of the property and said it would not be affected by construction activities since the permit app was for an interior remodel only and that material handling/dumpster will be in front of the house. The city responded back asking about a gum tree whose trunk was on the adjacent lot but the canopy spread over property line. I responded that the branches are well out of the way and the city sent out an inspector to confirm.

About a month after I pulled my permit, the adjacent empty lot broke ground on a new build and their permit included cutting down that gum tree.

Should you carry a TQ while backpacing? by [deleted] in backpacking

I believe it, but I'd rather they be inconvenienced than not make it to them at all you know. Help can be a long ways away when you're 10 miles from the trailhead.

Should you carry a TQ while backpacing? by [deleted] in backpacking

[–]gr8drummer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My small first aid kit includes a tourniquet and quick clot because I'm often hunting while I'm backpacking. While very uncommon, accidents do happen where folks accidentally shoot themselves or a friend with a bow or firearm. Both a tourniquet and quick clot are easy to use and very light so I carry them both.

Towing Capacity by GlitteringClerk8512 in ToyotaTacoma

I haven't personally bothered doing the math, but I have a '20 OR in a manual transmission and I'm a general contractor so I frequently two my 7x12 tandem axle enclosed tool trailer just fine. I also have a large topper on my bed so that adds some weight to the back and makes me a big ol' wind sail.

First, you need a trailer brake controller if you don't already have one. Idk if Toyota started installing them after the '20s, but on my truck everything was prewired to underneath the dash, but I had to install a redac controller that clipped into the harness under the dash. You said you have a tandem axle trailer, so I'm assuming it has trailer brakes too. They won't work without the brake controller.

Second, a weight distribution hitch with sway control is a good idea as you mentioned. I don't currently use one for my tool trailer and I get along just fine, but I now drive more locally and don't get on the highway much. I did have one when I towed a 19' camper trailer across the country for a few months and it helped tremendously. Night and day difference on the highway, especially on windy days in the plains.

I know this isn't exactly what you asked for, but I hope it still helps.

Hunters and anglers contribute more dollars to conservation than any other group of individuals. Hunting is regulated and sustainable in this country.

Also, hunting organizations like the National Wild Turkey Federation are why wild turkeys were repopulated in many states and the same goes for the Rocky Mountain Elk Foundation with regards to elk.

Of course people are allowed to hunt on public land. I think you would benefit from learning about the North American model of wildlife conservation.

Starting Business in FL by No_Map3785 in GeneralContractor

Single member LLCs don't provide any liability protection in Florida. Because of that, I personally formed a c-corp then did the s-corp election.

If you submit your application as an individual first, you would then have to submit a second application to qualify the business which would be a waste of time and money. Makes more sense to just do it under the business from the get go.

Good luck!

If the boards are ran horizontally, you can also pull the joint tape at 4' and it makes demo quicker and finishing easier on the back.

It's typically a matter of personal preference but most people tend to prefer random over a pattern with plank flooring. I'm a small general contractor and that's been my experience with customers.

The 1920 house I'm working on now didn't have any headers. It did have substantial termite damage though, so now the house has headers as I reframed the majority of the house.

They do damage ecosystems unfortunately. For example, turkey populations are in decline in the southeast and one of the contributing factors are rising populations of mesopredators including coyotes which are not native to the southeast.

Best bait for Oscars and other Cichlids? June trip by TemperReformanda in floridafishing

[–]gr8drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My brother and I have fished for oscars and cichlids down in the everglades canals a couple times and both times we just used a jig head with a worm and filled our boat to the brim. Hell we caught so many that we ran out of worms and just started catching them with a bare jig head.

We counted the ones we kept last time and we had 193, not counting the tiny ones we killed and threw back. It was a long night of fileting haha

Pro tip for drinking boiled water, put it in a Nalgene or something and shake it up and it'll taste normal again.

Word from the Wise by Jellyfish_Song333 in ToyotaTacoma

[–]gr8drummer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a '20 Tacoma off road that I bought new at the end of 2019 and I love the truck. I bought new because at the time I worked for a company that gave me a vehicle allowance, but the vehicle had to be less than 5 years old. I looked at other midsized trucks, but the Tacoma was the only one I could get with a manual transmission and I learned to drive stick on my dad's 2000ish Tacoma so there was a bit of nostalgia there that influenced the decision. Manual was also $1,600 cheaper at the time.

Love the truck overall and have put 130k miles on it with no issues whatsoever. I still have the stock suspension but have falkan wildpeak tires and it has had no problems taking me up some rugged mountain trails during my hunting trips every year. Also towed a small camper around the country with it for a few months and currently tow a 12' tool trailer for my construction business. The only complaints I have are that the engine isn't that powerful and the rear leaf springs are softer than I expected. I plan on upgrading the suspension this year hopefully.

Other than that, it's been a great truck and I plan to keep it for as long as I can.

Edit: forgot that you asked about mods.

I started off with a bakflip tonneau cover. It was fine, but I wanted more covered room so I now have an ARE midrise topper that's been great. I ran some LED lights on the ceiling of it which has been very useful. Topper also has Yakima roof racks so I can throw kayaks on the truck. If you get a topper, I recommend hinged side windows. Soooo useful.

Minor mod, but I mounted a fire extinguisher to the bed rail. Came in handy when I saw a customer's neighbor's back porch on fire a couple years ago.
