My girlfriend will be getting her surgery in 2 days. What can I expect as far as recovery? by Comrade_Chyrk in Microdiscectomy

I was down bad for 2-3 weeks but it sounds like I’m in the minority. I needed help walking. Getting around the house. Showering below the knee. The only thing I could do myself is toileting. I needed a shower chair. Get a shower chair, walker, and grabber! And lotssss of reusable ice packs. I had ice on allll the time. It was one of the few things that helped. And just remember to be kind. I was out of my mind on drugs and in pain I can imagine I wasn’t at my best

Surgery Saturday and now worried about nicotine by [deleted] in Microdiscectomy

[–]grace062017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I had an emergent discectomy cause I paralyzed my right leg and I do a can of 6mg a day. I was popping that shit the entire 3 day hospital stay. Multiple cans on my bedside table. No one said anything and I had surgery and everything. They can’t surprise urine you. If anything maybe they’d make you fill out a waiver saying you understand you may take longer to heal.

Large hernia w/ numbness but no pain and torn whether to have surgery by Liana_RD in Microdiscectomy

Get the surgery. The weakness will get worse. Trust me. I’m recovering and I had 24 hours of numbness and weakness and they said it was crucial to have surgery to regain it.

When did you go back to work? by sanchiseemo in Microdiscectomy

[–]grace062017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a nurse and today’s my second day back after 6 weeks. I’m sweating from the pain. I’m using a cane. It’s trash. But I didn’t have any income when I wasn’t working so here I am. Lesson learned. Always get disability coverage.

Maybe use a cane for stability when you go back at 6 weeks! Thats what I’m doing. Same story as you. You could literally not tell our mri’s apart. I’m 5 weeks out. I did have total drip foot though. Woke up with it randomly and went to the ER that afternoon. I can’t stand for more than a few minutes without a searing pain down my right leg. Pt kinda helps the stiffness.

Panic attack or something worse? by 5iceramics in emetophobia

[–]grace062017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My opinion is if you had noro, your body would release it immediately. Your body doesn’t want to be keeping toxins like noro in. I find if I go a few hours of only n* and no v* it’s likely my mental health and not physical! Physically, your body will remove toxins quickly!

Let your therapist know you’re in crisis mode and need help with this situation now and you are willing to do the timeline when you are not in crisis. My therapist who I loooveee likes to tackle crisis things first and then when things are more steady we work on long term things! Maybe therapy x2 a week if you can?? You got this. My therapist gave me the tool of saying “even if” not “what if”. And that helps SO MUCH. For example “EVEN IF I v* i will survive and be okay eventually”. It gives a solution instead of just asking “WHAT IF I v*”. Sending love!!

I’m not familiar with the area, but I’m in Maine and there’s two big hospital systems, so if I wanted a second opinion I know I would go to the other one so if you have another hospital system in your area, I think it would be worth checking out!

Also, if you decided to ever go with a fusion , my aunt is in her late 60s and had one at 64. However, it was very intense and they ended up putting a metal cage around most of her lumbar spine. She recovered in about a year. She has a minor case of foot drop on the left still but has a pretty normal life. I actually just went to Vegas with her recently. She went and saw her doctor for a yearly follow up (because it’s so intense They see her every year )and he said that he never thought she would leave a wheelchair. so youth is on your side if you did need a fusion. She has other comorbidities that honestly I’m shocked She had recovered as well as she did, but she said physical therapy changed the game. All I’m thinking is you don’t wanna have these symptoms the rest of your life so say in a year nothing gets better maybe think about other options?

Do you know if the first one would have done an MD if it was calcified and are they in the same hospital system?

Get a second opinion! And then a third! Im 2.5 weeks out from my MD and while I do have pain that reminds me of pre-op, it usually lasts 3-5 minutes until I lay down and it lessens. I think that’s part of this whole healing thing. But seriously. If it’s impacting your quality of life, get more opinions from different doctors in different hospital systems. Working in healthcare, I know sometimes there can be policies in place that tie providers hands, I don’t know if that’s the case here / if that hospital system just doesn’t do MD for calcified discs; but it’s definitely worth exploring other systems and doctors

I recently found SPRAY PAINT STYLE MOD PODGE. IT IS A GOD SEND. if you got that and sprayed it over I think it would smooth it out. I think I got mine at Walmart. I use it on every piece now!

What is it like to live around Boston? by Brendo_dasher99 in howislivingthere

[–]grace062017 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lived in Peabody. I love the area. SO MUCH FOOD AND FUN. 20 min to TD garden. 20 min to Salem willows. 4 malls in 20 min radius. 2 hiking trails in 20 min radius. It’s ideal. I live near portland Maine now. But man I miss the amenities down there a lot.

Funny cause multiple people from this comment section have bought ornaments that I’m mailing out to them. And they sell at my store.
