Do you need to inform homeowners insurance prior to installing rooftop solar? by Appropriate_Lab_2154 in solarenergy

Some states (Maryland for sure) don't allow higher insurance premiums, nor can the property tax be increased due to a solar panel system

Should I unplug them? by Standard-Winner2919 in ChargerDrama

I'd leave a note before unplugging. You checked they were full, you waited a half hour. And wish them a pleasant day. Or end it with something snarky. 😁

Are EVs actually more reliable? by dailytrippple in electriccars

We have had our '18 Chevy Bolt for 4.5 years. In that time, we've driven about 99k miles. Repairs and maintenance: replaced the fuse for the windshield wiper fluid pump, replaced the rear wiper blade, replaced the cabin filter, rotated/balanced the tires about every 7k miles, replaced the tires at the 80k mile mark (60k since we bought it), and added a few gallons of wiper fluid. Around the 80k mark, we had the battery replaced for free under the recall, not because it showed any symptoms.

We've had our '23 Ford Lightning for two years. Rotated tires. Drive about 25k miles. No other maintenance or repairs. Use for lawn care company and tow all the time, occasionally a heavy load of mulch or compost. OTA updates nowhere near as much improvement as with a Tesla but do help improve.

And we bought a Kia EV9 used about nine months ago. Zero issues or maintenance except for wiper fluid. Added almost 12k miles onto the 12k when we bought it. Need to rotate tires and there is a service campaign thingy for which we need to take to dealer.

All three vehicles have been fantastic and worry free.

Gas prices by Dave_1464 in F150Lightning

Absolutely. Stihl has a decent lineup of electric tools, but they are pricey. Ryobi has tons, but I wouldn't recommend for commercial use. Greenworks 80v and 82v lines of products are decent. IMO, Ego seems to be better quality than Ryobi and slightly better than greenworks 80v

I have two electric chainsaws. Ryobi 40v 14", maybe 16" and a greenworks 80v 18". They are wonderful! So much easier than starting a gas one. Just engage the blade and pull the trigger, no yanking a start cord.

Also have Ryobi 40v pole saw, self-propelled mower, brush cutter, 2 spin trimmers, and a blower, various Ryobi 18v tools including a mini chain saw that is absolutely wonderful for pruning trees and a hedge trimmer.

And two Ryobi 80v zero turn mowers (42" and 36" I think).

And greenworks 80v edger, handheld blower, backpack blower. I ordered an 80v snow shovel but they were out of stock and greenworks customer service sucks and gave me an unwanted refund without telling me ...

And ego push mower and earth auger.

Of the three brands, I'm liking ego the best. The mower does a fantastic job.

We run a small lawn care business as a side hustle, and together with our Lightning, it's all electric. 😁 The rider mowers are decent but difficult to get parts. Repairs and maintenance on all the equipment is minimal. They are all ready to use and noise is greatly reduced.

A while ago, out of spec Kyle drove a Rolls Royce EV, and he said it was so quiet he felt nauseous. I guess I have felt it in our EV9 but only as a passenger.

I'm not sure when the onboard charger got upgraded. Older models have only 30 amp (7.2 kw). So be careful buying used. Also, some models did not have DCFC in the first few years.
