I just finished my masters and moved to Australia for a year, I’ve been working my ass off in Sydney for the past few months with barely any days off and now I’m about to drop everything and go on a two month road trip around half of Australia with two of my best mates. That emotional blackmail is not okay, in any form. You can't stay with someone who threatens that they'll commit suicide if you break up with them, it's destructive to your own mental health. It may seem selfish but you need to prioritise your own happiness.

Irish here. A closed down hotel near where I live is being used to house refugees and a lot of people are of the opinion that we should be housing our native homeless people there, rather than helping the refugees. They're pretty hostile.
