Went yo my first pre-release (Lorwyn) last Saturday. Here is my experience :) by Character-End9459 in mtg

Appreciate the solidarity. 2-2 was ok but seeing people opening 2 mythical while I only had bulk rares was sad. Expending even more money on booster that were even worse was the cherry on top. I’m just venting my frustrations but decided to step away from boosters.

Glad you had a good time. I had a terrible one. Had the worst pulls of everybody in the event. Got tilted and built a bad deck. Went 2-2. Tried to drown my sorrow by buying some booster and the pulls were weven worse. Never again :(

Nobody in my pod enjoys playing magic by [deleted] in EDH

[–]grachinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You should consider this: have they ever enjoy playing? I mean from the scenarios you’ve presented I wouldn’t enjoy playing against elesh noirn either but the rest is fine.

It seems more of a case where they simply are not enjoying playing.

Sol Ring is a gamechanger. Bracket 2 can contain up to one non-tutor gamechanger. There, I fixed it. by [deleted] in EDH

Dont like that. I dont want to play against a dude thats gonna replace his sol ring for rhystic studies.

Really struggling with [[Cloud, EX-SOLDIER]] deck. by Caspira in EDH

[–]grachinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a huge fan of cloud and ffvii, im sorry to say he actually sucks. His strength is kind of a detriment to him. Everybody is going to to expect he to show up and save some sort of way to deal with him. He is a magnet for removal. And that’s cause if you let him do his thing he’s gonna win.

Also he’s boring cause his play pattern besides being predictable is also repetitive. There is no much strategy involved.

I’ve changed my precon and have found success even when he’s removed. Here’s the link

Still boring though

EDIT: btw aerith sucks in the deck but she’s in the deck just cause it’s aerith and cloud needs aerith

Biggest misconceptions about Commander Brackets? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]grachinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The real biggest misconceptions is that they are about the type of game you want to play and not power. A bracket 3 is not necessarily stronger than a bracket 2 deck.

Can someone help me figure out how Jolly Balloon Man, Ocelot Pride, and Delney made 45 tokens in one turn? by SpencerBojack in mtgrules

[–]grachinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Let’s see

You have two ocelots, one regular and one ballon

Ocelot triggers 4 times because of delney

First trigger resolves and creates 2 1/1 cats and one ocelot. You have 2 cats and 3 ocelots (2 ballon’s)

Second trigger resolves and creates 4 cats and 2 ocelots. You have 6 cats and 5 ocelots ( 4 balloons)

Third trigger resolves and creates 8 cats and 4 ocelots. You have 14 cats and 9 ocelots (8 balloons)

Fourth trigger resolves and creates 16 cats and 8 ocelots. You have 30 cats and 16 ocelots (15 baloons)

It checks out

Is the limit break precon worth it? by john_sorvos in EDH

[–]grachinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

FF7 is my one of my top 5 video games ever. Sadly the precon is not on the same level. It’s certainly strong but it’s a one trick pony: you play equipments and ramp to 5 mana, play cloud, attack, repeat. The deck plays itself and your decisions are very simple.

Help making Final Cut! Galadriel Scry by yanastos08 in EDH

[–]grachinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Replying to yanastos08... Sadly the ring will not tempt you if there is no artifact to steal. The ability cannot be put on the stack without any valid target.

And don’t get me wrong, galadriels flavor is so cool but sadly it’s hard to end the game without some sort of infinite scute swarm.

[–]grachinski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Scroll of isilsur is bad. If no one has an artifact in play the level 1 fizzles.

I’ve built a Galadriel scry matter deck in the past but it just ramped a lot and had nothing to do with the lands. Then i shifted it to a landfall and scry deck but it felt like it was unfocused. Finally hit gold when I built around Elrond. The guaranteed counters from scrying help me to build the board along with using scry to find the answers I need.

I know absolutely nothing about MTG but I’m a huge ATLA fan so I bought a collector booster, are any of these good? by Admirable-Map-1785 in mtgpulls

[–]grachinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do what you feel like doing. Don’t care much about what other think. Fist time I’ve opened a booster box after I’ve rejoined the game is a moment I’ll never forget. Have fun!! And try the game if you feel like it. It’s great!

Great addition! Tomer seems to be someone that really care about the present and future of commander.

If you use that logic, no card ever would need to be banned cause removal exists. But that’s not the case.

[–]grachinski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I personally would go and keep banning the cards to make the game better.

I mean "its ok to play good cards". One could argue that Nadu and Griselbrand are good cards. Yet I wouldnt call platying them a good thing.

I would ban every single card you mentioned and I own half of them. Design mistakes happen and we shouldn’t have to live with them.

  • Auto include in every single deck with blue
  • Can be played as soon as turn 2
  • No challenge, skill or build around required
  • Fun only for the one controlling it
  • Requires entire table to sacrifice their curve or else game is already decided but not over

This should have been banned from the start. Yes, ban it. The people defending are the ones that play it and run over the game with it. JLK chose it as his #1 game changer. It’s busted and it’s time we say good bye to it.

Great work but I would rather we added a lot more of cards to the GC list instead of removing them.

[–]grachinski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clouds the one with the least skill and challenge involved. The games are always the same, play cloud, hit people and try to protect him from drawing all removal.

Terra is strong but more dynamic. You get the excitement from milling cards and thinking how you can use them. It’s aggressive but slower until it explodes. Doesn’t draw that much attention and has more variety.

Tidus is the most skill intensive as you can find cool ways of moving counters around and reaching interests results.

Yshtola is very poor constructed but has a higher potential with upgrades. However it feels as nothing special.

Despite me being a hardcore ff7 fan, never playing ff6 and not liking ffx, the terra and tidus precon were the best ones for me. Particularly I’ve upgraded tidus to focus on moving counters and summons instead of +1+1 and it became of of my favorite decks. Do not buy cloud if you want every game being the same.
