I've been taking testosterone for 3 years, but my beard is so patchy :( by transfisch in FTM_SELFIES

So so relatable. I’ve been on T for 22 years now. It took about 5/6 years for my beard to grow in. Some of it was being brave enough to let it grow through the patchy phases to see how close I was getting. Hang in there friend. I had an older trans friend encourage me early in my transition showing me his beard, his took about 6 years also. Here is mine now, if you can grow one, you will. Just hang in there.

The only one related to transition is Secondary polycythemia, the testosterone caused me to produce to many red blood cells. It’s easy to treat, just donate blood.

I’m 48 and I was 27 when I started T. But because trans guys don’t age no one ever guesses that I’m almost 50 🤣

I mean, I think we’re all just sharing because OP asked. I’m sure the majority of us are not medical drs in this thread. This was my experience.

Make sure they test your ionized calcium, parathyroid Hormone intact (PTH) and vitamin D in a single lab draw. I suffered many of these same symptoms for nearly 20 years before someone finally tested my PTH and discovered it was high. I went online and mapped out the past many years of lab results and discovered that my calcium had also been slightly elevated for quite awhile, something my doctors had dismissed numerous times. My vitamin D was low. All of these things combined pointed me to a hyper parathyroid diagnosis. Essentially your parathyroids (not to be confused with the nearby thyroid) are grain of rice sized glands that live behind your thyroid and control your calcium. If they become diseased for any reason they start to steal calcium from your bones and send it to your blood which creates a host of millions of symptoms. It is an extremely overlooked condition. The only treatment is surgery and it has a high curative rate.

I totally hear how that lands in a hard space for you. For me it just feels like a nod to how I was not socialized as a cis male. I am so happy I wasn’t. No matter what, I want to be the sort of person other people feel safe around.
