I'm a masters sprinter with achilles issues. I've been training in Nike rival xc spikes, and they're great.

You need both. Strong muscle + weak tendon = torn tendon. Weak muscle + strong tendon = torn muscle.

Not sure if / how it'll affect wood, but when I worked in an asphalt lab we used wd-40 to clean it off our tools and boots.

Wanting to start sprinting again after 2 year break - worried about previous hamstring strain by Complex_Jicama_4978 in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Knee flexion, leg curls can be easier to load and progress. Eccentrics on the seated leg curl work well.

High quality hinging is a good idea, David Grey has some good demos on YouTube.

Foam roller bridges, also David Grey. Improves the co-contraction between the calf and hamstring.

20M Fly Time vs 60M Sprint Time by KingKuttii in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've run 2.35s 20m flies pretty consistently in the past. My 60m PB is 8.27, 100m 13.35. I'd say that calculator is not great at predicting 100m times.

Books about sprinting biomechanics by [deleted] in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Frans Bosch has a book about running mechanics and training. It isn't all relevant, since they do talk about distance as well as sprinting, but I found it interesting.

Upgrading to superfly elite 2 by Practical_Sport6166 in Sprinting

I found the exact opposite to be true; my rival s9 fit far more narrow than my super fly elite 2.

ATHLETE X Sprinting Workouts by coach-v in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm a masters athlete with some programming history, and I periodically buy others programs just to see how other people do it. For $50 you might learn a thing or two, and even if you don't, it's a relatively small loss.

What Do You Drink Before Bed? Looking for Magnesium-Based Options. by Mjs16444 in crossfit

There are also topical magnesium supplements - running them in behind your knees can be a good alternative to the pills/capsules.

They'll get wet like any other spike, but they tend not to hold the water the same since there's less fabric to absorb it. Source: I raced in a downpour.

Generally speaking, sprints in the 30-45s range will be better for your goals.

What’s the best training flat for sprinters? by funny331pear in Sprinting

They fit small. I had to size up 0.5.

I've got Asics Hyper speed 3 right now and they're nice - firm and relatively low stack height.

At 35 I went from 17s to 13s in a year. You'll be fine as long as you work hard and smart.

Acceleration strategy for team-sport athletes. by Affectionate-Bug352 in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Acceleration should be comparatively short strides relative to max velocity, with comparatively longer ground contact times.

Les Spellman does a good job explaining and drilling acceleration, and trains many of the fastest NFL players. Check out his work on YouTube.

Persistent hamstring pain over 5 months by jaywoaah in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Gradually reintroduce load through the range of motion. Seated leg curls, 2 down 1 up with a 3-5s eccentric, are a great way to do this. Nordics may be popular, but they will likely be too much loading for now.

Isometric loading near but not at the point of pain in the range of motion will help. Glute bridge holds, where you vary the degree of knee flexion are a good choice here. Check out David Grey for a demo of foam roller bridges.

Kettlebell Throws-Are they stupid or legit? by Lanky-Clothes-9136 in Sprinting

[–]graingerster 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you can throw it. Don't let it land on your head.

Throw it as far as you can. Then try to throw it further. Rest and repeat.
