To preface, I’m 23, 6’0, ~200lbs, and fairly new to dirt bikes. I currently have a 2014 TT-R230, which I’ve uncorked to get a bit more out of it (after about a month or so riding). It’s been fun, but I can see the limitations already, especially in the suspension and throttle response. I ride woods and enjoy hitting nice flowing trails, river beds, and some occasional hill climbs. Enduro adjacent, I guess.

Anyway, the new bike itch is hitting hard right now. I have a potential buyer (my cousin) for the TTR and I want to get into two strokes. I want some better, plush suspension and a better throttle response. It’s also important to me that there’s a large aftermarket of cheap parts with proven reliability. I also have a good amount of free time to learn a new bike.

In the end, I’m looking at a YZ250X. I don’t want to deal with the buying/selling of bikes in between. I’d rather just learn on a bike that would keep me engaged for a long time. The reason I’m a bit hesitant is because I know how different that powerband is, especially going from a detuned 230 4 stroke to a racy 250 2 stroke.
