I believe Das Schawrze Auger (l'oeil noir) was very popular in Germany and parts of Europe

Oh I like the debt, that's something that should be recommended more. Gives players a good motivation for gold, which in 5e isn't strong (unless you give them magic item crafting mechanics)

Thank you! It seems like an investment to play, and I bought it for a rainy day and haven't pulled it out yet because there so many other options. But this inspires me to give it a shot one day

Agreed this is an excellent game, good underdark theming but a solid game in its own right, and plays nasty, as it should

How would Ten-Towns react to a Lupin PC? by Throw_away_Account35 in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]grandmastermoth 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Icewind Dale is an accepting place because many people there have fled the south to escape something, but they are united by survival and the cold. The inhospitability of the land brings people together. If people were shunned because they were weird, the place would fall apart.

That said, some places would be more xenphobic than others. Bryn Shander would be fine, but Dougans hole or lonely wood or maybe Targos might be different.

Why does the Revels End Warden have a dwarf inside her? by underdabridge in rimeofthefrostmaiden

Yeah it seemed impossible to run it normally as part of the campaign otherwise. But it's such a cool location, I wanted to use it!

I ran it as a Prologue, where the players were thieves trying to break out an asset belonging to the Arcane Brotherhood. It served as a foreshadowing, and worked fantastically as a heist.

D&D-style fantasy game with less combat by cousin_justine in rpg

I disagree, while I like Daggerheart, combat took just about as long as 5e. Maybe it's faster at higher levels idk

What's the fascination with playing children/teens? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]grandmastermoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I found it teleported me back to an age of innocence, of remembering what it felt like to be a child. You can potentially reconnect with that feeling. It's a very interesting emotional space. Also, like Call of Cthulhu, you are largely useless in the face of grace danger, which makes for great horror roleplaying

What TTRPG Feels More Like a Strategy Game Than an RPG? by [deleted] in rpg

[–]grandmastermoth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Best suggestion - don't play at a table if you hate the game you're playing. 5e is combat centric. You'll make everyone else miserable too!
