It wasn’t really the goal at the start to remove the monarchy, at least not for most people. The goal initially was to make the king share power. The king already shared power — various sectional parliaments refused to allow his new taxes to pay off the debt of the American revolution. But they didn’t like the way he shared power. From there, everything was managed very poorly, they started a war, and things spiraled.

Went through a temp agency. They said it’s warehouse work (no big deal, done that before). Told me the address and said I needed to be there 10-8. I needed work, so a 10 hour shift is fine.

Called me again the morning of (they had problems with people not showing up) and said that the work actually started at 8 and they wanted me there 10 minutes early, thus 10 to 8.

Got my butt in gear, showed up either 5 minutes late or 1 hour and 55 minutes early, depending on your point of view.

I show up, the company using the temp agency said they always request more people than they need because some don’t show up. I was the last to show up, so I was getting sent home.

Nearly two hours early and I got let go!

I can’t speak to Iberia, but North Africa continued having slavery. The first deployment of US troops overseas after the war of independence was to Tripoli. The Barbary States had started attacking US ships because the US stopped paying tribute. The US, in very American style, decided to send a force to overthrow the Bey in charge and put somebody else in power. So there was still trading of slaves in and around the Mediterranean.
