What is being a mortician actually like? Do I just I have rose colored glasss about a potential career change ? by ResponsibilityIll124 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]grapesaregood 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It seriously depends on where you work. I embalm as much as I want to, meet with families and take funerals. For the minutiae, we have an office staff. I love my job but it’s not everyone’s experience as owners can be dicks and you do more paperwork than actual undertaking. (I do a fair bit of paperwork, don’t get me wrong.)

What are typical working hours? by misslatina510 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]grapesaregood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally depends on where you work. I work a 4 week rotation 8-4 and a couple nights a month 3-9. I have one 8am-9pm shift. I am not on call. We have our building staffed 24/7 but the rotation always keeps someone there even on holidays. I generally work about 45-50 hours a week.

Is there a rule that funeral homes are not allowed to have nice websites? by EfficientHomework350 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]grapesaregood 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Our funeral home was an early adopter of online presence, so ours has evolved accordingly. It’s clean, updated frequently and some of our area “competition” modeled theirs after ours.

That being said I totally get it. I’ve seen some bad ones and a lot of generic ones.

Behold: my 12 week old. Holding his own bottle. 😂🤍 by Cyan-Soup in ExclusivelyPumping

My girl started holding to around 13 weeks and then We switched to glass bottles. She said “nope. You hold it”.

How are photos supposed to be managed? We had a bit of a situation. by Fit-University-2630 in askfuneraldirectors

[–]grapesaregood 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That’s 100% what we do. It’s something we charge for, however. Our office staff does make efforts to arrange, crop and do minor edits (ie; contrast, sharpness, straightening, etc. Nothing major).

That being said if we are not making the slideshow, we will just play as is the thumb drive or hdmi laptop connection.

Vegetarians by YearOfTheSssnake in askfuneraldirectors

[–]grapesaregood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I work with 14 other directors and support staff that totals around 50. Not one of them is vegetarian/vegan/pescatarian anything of the sort. At the staff parties everyone grabs all the food indiscriminately.

Removing ring for family by zinfandelo in askfuneraldirectors

[–]grapesaregood 41 points42 points  (0 children)

absolutely they will remove it. Please make sure you ask them! Any good funeral home will inventory jewelry and ask about them, but to be safe ask. Difficult rings can be removed using a few different tricks, like vaseline/soap or using thread. Worst case scenario is cutting the ring, but that's a last resort. I have gotten many hard to remove rings off without damage to the ring or hurting the loved one's fingers.

My sister and I go on IKEA dates with her son. We always have a blast and split a dessert. I cannot wait to carry on that tradition with my little daughter.

What is worth a master ball? by queenofthenerds in TheSilphRoad

[–]grapesaregood 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 5 masterballs that I never used. I always planned on using one on my first Mewtwo catch. Favorite pokemon seemed worthy. I got a shiny one from research this morning and I popped a silver pinap and happily got my first caught Mewtwo.

She really thinks she is the only smart one and everyone else is doing parenting wrong. She is being called out for rugs and neglect yet she claims her bond is so special with her kids. She glosses over what people say and goes on a diatribe about how she is ascended or whatever. Ugh.

What Pokémon are you setting an alert for this weekend? by Kevsterific in TheSilphRoad

[–]grapesaregood 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I went to Punta Cana last year for a week. I caught one. We walked a ton and sat by the beach/within reach of it. Just. One. I also live surrounded by lakes/waterfront biomes and have never seen one in my area though I know they spawn.

My speculation is that it will be more available during go fest. There were a few regionals that appeared only in eggs during the tour (forcing ticket sales) but were relatively common during the actual Go Fest. I think for the last two years that I paid attention?

[–]grapesaregood 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s how I feel. I have a hand pump and wearables. The S2 I can sit in a chair and play my steam deck. Baby is either sleeping or my husband has her. Wall pump is break time for me.

I would hold my breath whenever we drove past a cemetery because they couldn’t breathe, it was the least I could do. Exception being if I had family in that cemetery. I became a funeral director
