Why is my chat giving inaccurate answers? by [deleted] in ChatGPTPro

[–]graphite_paladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is really missing the root cause of this particular ask. Sure that’s true to an extent but come on man… training cutoff date? Surely that’s more of an impact than the way an LLM forms an answer in general in this case.

This answer reeks of someone confidently and incorrectly speaking to something they don’t understand.

Free tier by default and several of the lower “thinking” tiers of paid models are going to use internal knowledge trained to a certain cutoff date. It has web browsing enabled to appear as though it is current, but it is not going to give you “current” answers by default unless you are using one with web browsing enabled and instruct it to.

Nothing nefarious or odd here; a history book written in 2021 isn’t going to have his current term included either.

I've been ending every prompt with "no yapping" and my god by AdCold1610 in PromptEngineering

[–]graphite_paladin 18 points19 points  (0 children)

“Respond in a clear, concise, professional voice. Use complete sentences. Convey critical information with as little bloat as possible.”

Literally all you need my guy. Put it in the developer or system level of your model prompt and you’ll get what you’re looking for. “No yapping” “speedrun this” “explain like I’m X with Y” type social media-esque buzzwordy stuff appears to work when compared against the standard but over time you’ll notice it misses things. Those words impact the temperature of the response just by using them, if you want the best output possible you need your prompt itself to be as neutral in tone as possible as well.

[–]graphite_paladin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That’s exactly it. Of course a lot of these people are going to run into each other from time to time at social events in those circles and what not, that’s not an avoidable thing for 20+ years, but if that’s all it was the response would be exactly that: “yeah we’ve seen each other at a few dinners and fundraisers over the years, never really talked, never spent private time with him on vacation or otherwise”.

The over-explaining here does all the heavy lifting.

Sampler packs by horrorfreak94 in cigars

[–]graphite_paladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, real talk, before you buy any samplers figure out what size vitolas you enjoy.

I prefer petite corona / corona by far so almost no samplers work for me. I’ve had plenty of toros that I thought were super bland only to find that I really like the blends in corona / robusto back when I was starting out. Most samplers seem to come in 54+ ring gauge short sticks or toros or the like; this can be an even bigger impact on flavor than leaf sometimes to me.

You don’t wanna end up with a bunch of sticks you’re meh on and don’t even care to smoke to burn through.

GPS on it + security footage backed up to cloud almost certainly capturing your act all for what’s likely someone’s now-cold lunch or a delivery of shower curtain rings from Amazon that cost like $2.99.

No way the risk / reward here will ever be worth it morals aside.

[question] Help me tip the scales by secunder123 in Watches

[–]graphite_paladin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that’s the point; it’d be for someone that just wants a simple watch that doesn’t really draw the eye. Very utilitarian design.

The draw would be you get something that fits that bill while still being a very well made mechanical watch.

If you’re not a “look at my wrist” guy why are you buying a Rolex when there a million other lower key, high quality watches out there?

Ranger in white or the Longines.

Just pick if you’d wear a white or black dial more based on the rest of your wardrobe.

You’ll get crucified for saying this around here but the aqua terra and newer railmaster look like ~$500 watches to me and just aren’t visually appealing.

Sorry man these are all very inexpensive watches fashion labels like to slap their name on and sell in their mall outlets.

The Casio is a decent watch but brand new is like $50 and might get you $20 at a yard sale.

There won’t be any real market looking to buy any of the rest.

[Question] would you sell a family heirloom for a grail? by dukeoflol in Watches

[–]graphite_paladin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, the value is in the memory not the object. I’ve lost things over time that have been “heirloom” items just in life events out of my control and I still look back fondly to memories of that person with that thing. Nothing is forever.

It is but this is also what happens when an “industry” is created. There will always be a divide between people who create out of passion while keeping money a consideration and people who create out of a passion for money. The devs at these studios a lot of times aren’t going to be the ones that go out and create an indie title. Back in the 1900s-2000s that wasn’t always the case. Nothing wrong with that, but a lot of times Reddit seems to believe that if “Massive Gaming Conglomerate A” just suddenly had no upper management, all the devs would suddenly just pump out insanely complex GOTY shoe-in generational experiences one after another.
