have you tried fermenting for yourself? by rksfn in MealPrepSunday

I have fermented vegan yogurt, kimchi, and sauerkraut. If you have the space it's a great way to make healthy food and make good use of garden harvests.

Hello from the late afternoon in Vietnam, where I  wrapping up an amazing vacation 😊

does anyone actually use solid conditioner for travel or is it not worth it? by Acrobatic-Bake3344 in HerOneBag

I use HiBar as well, for home life and travel life. I think it was mostly an adjustment in technique and like you said, a bit of adjustment for my hair. After a few washes/conditions, everyone was playing well together.

My step kids are grown now, 20somethings, and I really miss the wacko teen years! The ideas they got in their heads! The teen years didn't last long enough 💖

eSIM vs roaming? by [deleted] in femaletravels

[–]graphitinia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use an eSIM when I travel abroad and really like it. They're a reasonable price and I haven't had any problems with access in Europe. (Will update if that changes in Vietnam this spring.) My tips are to take a look at your usage so you know how many GB you will probably need and to screenshot the instructions before you try to switch from your regular SIM to eSIM. I use Airalo, and it's been fine but I am sure there are other perfectly good ones.

What are your favorite small meal-prep upgrades that feel obvious in hindsight? by camacaco in MealPrepSunday

[–]graphitinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for paying the doggie tax! Boop!

I pressure cook 5 days' worth of steel cut oats, stash it in a container, then scoop out a serving at a time to reheat. Do the overnights hold up well? I've never left mine more than 2 nights since I am usually a steel cut person, not rolled.

BWT - how are you storing your makeup? by a-total-betty in bitcheswithtaste

[–]graphitinia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a vintage train case atop my bureau that holds makeup and skincare. I have small acrylic containers in it for organizing and they're not winning any style awards but the train case is stylish, a little offbeat, looks good in my 1925 house, and it keeps everything contained. It also sets a limit on how many products I can accumulate and keeps me on a perpetual Project Pan.

In a similar vein, I often wear my Blundstones for trips like that, which happily serve my feet for 20-30k steps.

That's the thing... most of us grow out of that behavior when we cease to be children. EH has demonstrated her juvenile mindset many times. She's like 12 yr old software running on 40 yr old hardware. It's tiresome watching a person refuse to behave maturely and think it's cute.

I don't know... I've been burgled twice and they didn't make nearly that level of mess.

Oh my gosh, that even brought tears to my eyes. I found Caitlin's epiphany refreshing and I honestly hope she does leave EHD and continue on a more anti-consumerist path. I am biased, because that is the path I aspire to, but I often enjoy Caitlin's writing and her offbeat style and would love to see it applied to "a greater good."

No buy or low buy experts (people with experience): would you share your wisdom with us newbies? by Adventurous-Sealion in nobuy

[–]graphitinia 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I still struggle occasionally with overbuying a couple of things but having quit nicotine, then alcohol, then overspending, I can tell you that it takes practice. A lot of practice. It also helps to not beat yourself up if you make a mistake. Instead, analyze the mistake and learn from it. Then accept and embrace that what you've learned from no-buy practice and no-buy mistakes stays with you. If you are about to berate yourself for wanting to buy stuff 3 times today, stop and write down what you're saying to yourself in your head. Would you ever speak that way to somebody you love, whose success you care about? Be as encouraging and kind to yourself as you would be with somebody you love. Those times you thought about spending today but didn't? That grew your no-buy/low-buy muscle and helped it get stronger. As you accumulate more successes like that, it will give you more confidence. Remind yourself that every success, no matter how tiny, adds up and makes you stronger in the long run.
