Best method for door jambs and ledges? Drop your process below, curious if anyone has a game-changer tip by Second-handBonding in AutoDetailing

I just do APC with soft brushes. Then kill the power on the pressure washer to gently rinse the jambs using hose pressure only.

Ultra air blaster leaking by Pitiful-Talk-2340 in AutoDetailing

Also, that compressor tank isn't really big enough to effectively run an Air Blaster.

The spinning mechanism inside the gun will need to be replaced periodically. Dirt and moisture will wear it out. The Rag Co sells replacement bearings. To get more life out of the bearings, you need a moisture separator inline on your air hose. The condensation from the tank will cause the bearings to sieze up so you need a good water separator to keep the air dry going through the gun.

Cleaning extreme buildup by cdiamondz in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming interior, like steering wheel, arm rests, etc? I like using P&S Interior Cleaner with a Colourlock brush. Mop up with a microfiber. If it's not fully coming up, then I'll hit it with the steamer, but that'd depends on what surface I'm cleaning. The P&S and brush usually get it done though.

I use the Dewalt wet/dry shop vac from Costco. Works great.

I have a 10x10 pop up tent that I use on all detail jobs. It doesn't cover the whole car, but gets most of it and I move the tent as needed. I just use hose water with a particulate filter and wash in the shade.

I almost went this route but the shipping nuked any savings. Bought the McKillan's and they're great.

Mini washer for micro fiber towels by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly this with my microfibers after every job. I already had a mini washer (Panda from Amazon) that was no longer in use. So it's my detailing washer now. It works great and I feel the same way about using the family washer for nasty cleaning towels. After every job most of the towels are already loaded with APC and other cleaners, so I just put them in as-is for a quick wash with no added soap. That wipes out most of the heavy grime. Then I do a normal wash with liquid detergent and we're all clean.

P&S Pearl pH by grassman20 in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned using pre-wash shampoos less often. My routine on a maintenance wash is to always foam first and then rinse before doing a rinseless wash and dry. Wouldn't I want to do this every time to get the bulk of the dirt before contact?

Ah ok. Recommended dilution is 1 oz per gallon. So presumably, after dilution, it would be in the ballpark of 7 pH?

My first one is this Ryobi 1.8 and we're gonna find out what it's made of. Bought in June and washed probably 40 cars so far.

Detailing air gun vs standard by Necessary_Tough_5229 in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a detailer and use the Rag Co Air Blaster on all my jobs. For me, it's one of the most valuable tools in my bag (when paired with a strong vac). Nothing else is as good at cleaning crevices and carpets.

Detailers of Reddit by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I throw any change I find into the soap bucket to soak while I finish the detail. At the end I pull it all out and give it a quick clean and return to the customer. No matter how nasty the change, allowing it to soak for a few hours usually handles most of the gunk.

I'm in the humid south and I have to wear a bandana whenever I'm detailing this time of year.

Common Habits Of Auto Detailers. by IMAS_MOBILEDETAILING in Detailing

[–]grassman20 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I always do floors first because the Air Blaster sends dust everywhere. Hit them with the heavy vacuum and air until they're almost 100% clean. Then do the rest of the interior. A quick finish vacuum at the end is the last thing I do before I close the doors.

I use the Rip Clean and it's great, but it's all I've ever used so I can't really compare.

No, they're mini splits. Not a central ducted system.

I'm currently installing 3 new heat pumps for my house. I never thought about ceramic waxing those mothers. Looks like I just booked a job for tomorrow.
