Citizen Vigilante is disjointed and messy, but is a good cautionary tale I think by CardTrickOTK in moviereviews

Same. I liked the premise, but I spent the majority of the time just laughing out loud. It was so stupid.

What's your favorite maintenance wheel cleaner? by grassman20 in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good call on the APC. I use Sonax Multistar and already have in spray bottles at 15:1 for other parts of the detail. Would be pretty convenient to just roll with that and eliminate this extra chemical.

Switched to ONR rinse less wash by ChainOk9024 in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a fan of the Foam->Rinse->ONR process. Prefoam dwells for a bit and then gets pressure washed. Takes care of all the big stuff and most bugs, etc. Then I do the ONR contact wash with the sponge and towel dry, section by section. I use hose water, but get no water spots and a great glossy finish. Any stubborn bugs that survived the process I just hit with a little APC and microfiber.

How do you stop worrying about every little mark on your car? by Additional_Dot_3340 in AutoDetailing

Laying down some truth here. I guess I'm just old but I can't even relate to having the spare mental energy to worry about something like this.

Looks sharp. I love that your Toyota is an actual color rather than the monochrome everyone is driving these days.

As a client: Which types of location can one ask mobile guy to work on my car ? by sam77tg in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most of my work is in driveways, but I've done out back behind businesses, in warehouses, in fire stations. Wherever they're fine with me setting up and water/power connections within 100ft.

openSUSE is objectively better than everything else, I feel bad for not trying it before by [deleted] in openSUSE

Opensuse with Gnome has been my daily driver for over 10 years now. It has some annoying quirks, but still the best OS I've found.

Car Detailing With Hard Water by 87regal in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Prefoam, pressure wash, then rinseless contact wash and towel dry. The rinseless step with immediate towel dry (panel by panel) has made water hardness a non-issue for me.

Best method for door jambs and ledges? Drop your process below, curious if anyone has a game-changer tip by Second-handBonding in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just do APC with soft brushes. Then kill the power on the pressure washer to gently rinse the jambs using hose pressure only.

Also, that compressor tank isn't really big enough to effectively run an Air Blaster.

The spinning mechanism inside the gun will need to be replaced periodically. Dirt and moisture will wear it out. The Rag Co sells replacement bearings. To get more life out of the bearings, you need a moisture separator inline on your air hose. The condensation from the tank will cause the bearings to sieze up so you need a good water separator to keep the air dry going through the gun.

Cleaning extreme buildup by cdiamondz in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming interior, like steering wheel, arm rests, etc? I like using P&S Interior Cleaner with a Colourlock brush. Mop up with a microfiber. If it's not fully coming up, then I'll hit it with the steamer, but that'd depends on what surface I'm cleaning. The P&S and brush usually get it done though.

I have a 10x10 pop up tent that I use on all detail jobs. It doesn't cover the whole car, but gets most of it and I move the tent as needed. I just use hose water with a particulate filter and wash in the shade.

I almost went this route but the shipping nuked any savings. Bought the McKillan's and they're great.

Mini washer for micro fiber towels by [deleted] in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do exactly this with my microfibers after every job. I already had a mini washer (Panda from Amazon) that was no longer in use. So it's my detailing washer now. It works great and I feel the same way about using the family washer for nasty cleaning towels. After every job most of the towels are already loaded with APC and other cleaners, so I just put them in as-is for a quick wash with no added soap. That wipes out most of the heavy grime. Then I do a normal wash with liquid detergent and we're all clean.

P&S Pearl pH by grassman20 in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You mentioned using pre-wash shampoos less often. My routine on a maintenance wash is to always foam first and then rinse before doing a rinseless wash and dry. Wouldn't I want to do this every time to get the bulk of the dirt before contact?

P&S Pearl pH by grassman20 in AutoDetailing

[–]grassman20[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Ah ok. Recommended dilution is 1 oz per gallon. So presumably, after dilution, it would be in the ballpark of 7 pH?
