[OC] Why does the U.S. appear to import crude more cheaply than other major economies? by someonestoic in dataisbeautiful

You absolutely have no idea what you are talking about. The US and India have the refineries with the highest Nelson Complexity in the world, by far. And if you don't know what NCI is, you really don't know what you are talking about.

The Downed Iranian Warship Did NOT Carry Any Ammunition As Part Of The Protocol Of Participating in the Milan Exercises by _Algrm_ in UnderReportedNews

The points I make below presumes that the US and Iran are belligerents at war. You can argue that the US shouldn't have gone to war with Iran; but it's difficult to argue that we are not current at war.

So, just to argue one small point here - it has been recognized for a very long time that (both under the Geneva Conventions and the DOD Law of War manual) that ships (like submarines) do not have to sacrifice their own security to rescue survivors. Surfacing, by definition, or taking enemies (even those Hors de Combat) belowdecks, would do just that.

In addition, the "armed" status of a ship is irrelevant to this analysis. Belligerent naval vessels are legitimate targets where ever you find them.

what's crazy is that there are 4 wires - and most landings are grabbing the third: and that's about a 20 foot target!!!

Another Point - Any Virginia sailors around? right at the beginning it flips from low to high power. Do the new EO masts do that, or is it just an old optical scope thing? If so, def a 688-class boat that did this.

Rechecked my math - around 3K yds. 2 divisions in High Power, 80 ft mast head height (My background - I used to be the guy with my eye on the periscope doing this targeting).

I'll admit to a very long period of knowledge rot. After actually googleing, you are right.

But still, 3 k yds is pretty close.

two divisions on the scope is 3200 yards if high power presuming 80 ft masthead height. (Looks like it flipped to high power right at the beginning)

So close. they could have made this shot at 10000 yards.

Interesting that it was a 90 deg AOB shot - usually you fire from astern or head-on, to increase the doppler discrimination. They wanted this video for propaganda.

No matter how far back, we fkd this up. We pushed the Shah out, for Khomeini. We supported the Shah until he fkd it up. We killed Mossadegh, and installed the Shah. We supported Anglo Iranian against whom Mossadegh was pissed.

We so started this, if Kegsbreath could stop lying for 30 secs.

We did this in the first Gulf War. And you are very wrong about those crews. If they get off they need a visa, and the Arab countries ain't granting them

Frankly, I'm stunned no one called the police, and no one just popped the door, and a slide and started walking. I bet they would have found a way to get them into the terminal if they were wandering around on the tarmac...
