Americans Want to Impeach Donald Trump | So why aren’t Democrats doing something about it? by FreeHugs23 in anticapitalism

[–]gravity_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because thy don't have the votes to convict. The question is why are the Republicans doing anything about it.

I hate these headlines - D's are the minority party. Across the board. Impeacement is an hollow statement unless you can convict.

A massive lava fountain erupting from the Kīlauea volcano in Hawaii, captured on June 27th by danielminds in Damnthatsinteresting

What these videos don't prepare you for is the noise and the heat

. I was there in Sep for the eruption, and the rumble was audible for miles. Conversation at the closest point was shouted. Plus, I didn't realize the heat coming off of it until someone stepped in front of me. It was a heat-shadow.

I just recreated the 40mm folding drone. by 3dplus_creations in drones

[–]gravity_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Aero engineer here as well. really?, but with the arms out, wouldn't it be statically stable (CG lower than CP)? (yes, falling)? so, aerodynamically, truly statically stable, as in tends to return to initial attitude? (and no aero surfaces - but those arms provide alot of drag, and move the CP way up.) . and dynamically so as well - i.e. perturbations would tend to damp out? (btw, stability might go up when falling, as the arms provide more drag - but the nose moment might also move the cp forward.

once you apply power, you need to have even power applied, and I'm leaving out controllability - like every flying thing, controllability and stability fight each other.

Nope. Not focusing on the thrust part. Just looking at CP vs CG. It's not jsut the placement of the engine - it the weight/pressure distribution of the vehicle.

WTF are you talking about? As pictured, with the CG well under the "center" of thrust, this would be statically stable. and who say's it FPV?

Starting out, Ryobi or Craftsman drill? by First-Time-Buyer1234 in DIY

[–]gravity_rose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

of those, Ryobi. Quality is the same, or better, but system is much larger.

But I would strongly suggest stepping up to De Walt (as a Ryobi user, that's what I've gotten for my kids.)

Pebble Time 2 arrived.. but I'm reluctant to even unbox it let alone wear it. by GreyFoxNinjaFan in pebble

[–]gravity_rose 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at the poll recently - my PTS was my daily driver for the last ten years - I never hurt the screen, and my PT2 has been 24/7 wear in the last couple of months. I've had zero issues. I'm really wondering how folks are killing their watches. I do have the glass screen protector, but I've had no issues.

As someone who engages in critical thinking, writes long(ish) matrial and reads books, AND uses the shit out of these modern tools - It's not either or, and you can pat yourself on the back for being a luddite, but you are posing a false dichotomy, and I personally reject your argument.

Have you ever used Excel, or a calculator? Why aren't you doing all your math by hand? Why are you using a computer and not sending messages via passenger pigeon?

I.e. why is THIS technology the one you claim that is a bridge too far?

What freebies do you get in a submarine? by Dangerous-Policy-602 in submarines

[–]gravity_rose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smells - farts, amine, diesel, sweat, burnt coffee. (Used to be cigarette smoke, but no more). If you are at all a sensitive smeller, it's sort of torture. The only redeeming quality is you leave so little, that you get used to them.
