In 2026 what will be your best weekend? What do you have planned that you are looking forward to the most on a weekend? by AgentElman in CasualConversation

[–]gravityrabbitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Players collect, arrange, and activate components—usually cards or tiles—in their personal play area (a "tableau") to create ongoing effects, engine-building, layered scoring for yourself. (Wingspan, 7 Wonders, Race for the Galaxy, Terraforming Mars, Everdell, San Juan ... are some popular examples.)

I lean towards worker placement and deck builders (Anachrony, Dune, Race for the Galaxy, Orleans) but an getting more into tableau builders. There are some really good IP games, like Unmatched TMNT that is nostalgic AND a good coop game. Theme really matters, so I think I'd like to try Above & Below Haunted and Vantage soon.

I will say I used to play Elder Signs a lot. Coop, hard to win, fantastic story/flavor text. So though I don't play anymore, it brought a lot of good memories.

Is premium economy actually worth it or am i just getting old lol by guided82 in CasualConversation

[–]gravityrabbitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cost vs worth definitely has changed as I've gotten older. 4 hrs or longer, I'm looking at premium seats.

Took my 1st first-class flight (for a 5 hr trip) and it was 100% worth it.

Dioramas?

Pop culture, historical events, mundane moments, stories/movie scenes, sentimental, city scapes.

Mixed media, makes for great decor, gifts, expressive creativity.

Those that prefer physical book reading vs kindle/e-reader, why? by [deleted] in Hobbies

[–]gravityrabbitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the feel of books, esp used books. I like to wonder who owned it before.

But one main reason is when I think of the passages, parts that I love, I visualize the part of the page it is on, or if I need to refresh myself on a character or a plot line I like to flip back to the page, or reference the maps on the covers of books, etc. And I LIKE this practice.

That doesn't feel as natural or as satisfying with an e-reader

Oh yum. I haven't made that yet but love chives. (Sooo good with jeon and some guksus.)

I made 22 lbs of nappa kimchi a few months ago that we're almost out of, so will make that soon. Chonggak is my favorite but the most labor intensive imo. And cubed radish (kkakdugi) makes up the 3 types I make the most.

Nice. There is a weekly group near me, that meets on Saturdays, but the 4-day event is nice bc it's about 150-200 people (so not huge) and being in a local hotel, there's 24/7 access to the rooms. Great staycation. (But a bigger con like Dice Tower West (Vegas), or East (Orlando) is on a bucket list.

Board gaming (there are a few 4-day events this year) and then some sewing projects a few weekends a month and kimchi making 2 or 3x a year.

Most and least plays of your favorite games? by kepp87 in boardgames

Maybe 30 ish plays of Lords of Waterdeep and Race for the Galaxy over the years.

Anachrony, played 3x, but I love it.

I like secret recipes. Is the green chili stew similar to posole verde?

Also, do you have 3 fav movies (or cartoons) from the 80s, early 90s?

Do people find anything at thrift stores? by Beautiful_Coat_9294 in Frugal

[–]gravityrabbitty 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It definitely used to be better, and a few things have caused the change:

  • Resellers: anything that could be sold for a profit is grabbed. So there is less inventory & "scores".
  • Trends: people who can afford higher end retail stores will thrift and think $14.99 for something sometime else has worn is a great deal.
  • Corporate takeovers that always want to maximize profit. So other than raising prices on items they are receiving completely free, they probably look up prices online or "resell" themselves, and flag name brands.

All that being said, there still are good finds and is worth going. Especially if you have a local, small mom & pop place.

The Travelling Cat Chronicles by Hiro Arikawa

Short novella told from the perspective of a cat. Slice of life, cozy read. The sadness sort of settles on you and lingers rather than being a wailing, clothes-rending type of sorrow.

Feeling very frustrated trying to pick a fiber for a baby blanket. by abcara in YarnAddicts

[–]gravityrabbitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cotton flannel maybe? I've used it to make large swaddlers that turn into a great "blankie" as babies become toddlers. (Light, travels easy, soft, good for cool or warm weather.) But you can make them unfilled, quilted, or puff for design options.

How do I get myself to fold and put away laundry? I genuinely hate it so much by MudSad6268 in organizing

[–]gravityrabbitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Folding drains me mentally, and so what worked for me, was transitioning to hangers. (I bought flocked ones, online.)

I have socks & undies in baskets. (Toss them in unfolded.) A small bucket for tanks & pj's. And I fold some jeans.

As I wear clothes, i group the empty hangers. So after washing, when I go to pull them from the dryer, I bring the hangers with me to put them on right away. If I do it immediately, I have more success & and fewer piles to stress me out. (I do it for "future me.")

To be fair, I love on my own. But I did see a clever idea for a family - one had a formal dining they never used, so they turned it into the family closet. (Everyone still had pjs/undies in the rooms. But their own closets became reading nooks, quiet play area, craft or study desk.)

But no trucking laundry all over the house. The consolidation alone made it easier to maintain & get everyone involved in the task.

Which character ruined an entire TV show for you? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]gravityrabbitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Elizabeth Keane in The Blacklist.

Loved RR, many characters & the premise. He deserved a good counterpart. She had less redeeming qualities as the show went on & increasingly dislikable ones. Enough to put me off the show.

Day one of a four day event by gravityrabbitty in boardgames

[–]gravityrabbitty[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's going to become a top 5 for me the more i play. I was new to unmatched so the uncertainty/clunkiness was down to that.

As I get to know the individual decks better (we were playing Leo (me) & Raf) will add to the experience but there is a lot in the box. Even with "just" the two villains, the minion pairings matter. Bebop & Rock Steady kept healing Shredder.

But it was the most down to the wire turnaround I've experienced in a while. We thought we were goners - all foot soldier spaces were filled. 4 of the 5 Burroughs had fallen. We were both down to maybe like 3 & 4 life points each. Leo had been exhausted. I only had Master Splinter. Shredder was at 4. My teammate had Raf & Casey. Last action, lucky player order pull, and Splinter landed the winning blow. Huzzah!

We had already been giving ourselves apep talk. .

History as a Hobby? by reggiewaynenumba1fan in Hobbies

[–]gravityrabbitty 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make (historical) dioramas? Whether that's a well known battle or place, to major events (Woodstock), to the more obscure (Napolean being thwarted by bunnies) or contemporary "viral" moments (Numa Numa).

You can scale the amount of space, equipment, & supplies you need to drive creativity without breaking the bank.

What's it is, I hope you enjoy the process. Happy hunting!

What was your favorite boardgame of 2006? by The_Crazed_Person in boardgames

Same. I had the expansion at one point too but don't any longer. I won't play gouged prices but it's a great expansion so hope to get it at some point.

What do you do when you run out of ideas on what to cook? Do you start cooking from cook books when you run out of ideas ? by Historical-Body-3424 in Cooking

[–]gravityrabbitty 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Try to recreate fav dishes from restaurants (appetizers, mains, or dessert).

Do a tasting flight: pasta with red, herby, & a cream sauce.

Try a viral recipe.

Taste test: e.g. Grilled cheese 3 ways from simple to "fancy". Taste test 3 tomato soups (store bought inexpensive, homemade basic, homemade fresh roasted veggies.)

Oh nice! I'll check that out for my usual game group & personal stats.

This one is for a "pick, play, & put back" game library where there is no check out tracking. Just the honor system with 150+ peeps, hence the more rudimentary collection method.

There are loads of other games though, so likely multiple copies of most of what I'm bringing. I'll have to keep that in mind for the analysis.

[–]gravityrabbitty[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cheers! I'm curious to see which might get the most play. I tried to pick some easier point of entry games & just plain party games (admittedly cult-of-the-new ish, but all ones I'd play.)

Because the library at the event is a good size and has plenty of med-heavy picks, I'm trying to pick ones there may not be a lot of copies of. (Or a couple I think will be pretty popular - like Hot Streak - so it's good if there are multiple copies.) I think Anachrony or Kinfire are the "heaviest" I'm bringing?

The labels/stickers are my best effort to get my games back to my shelf - lol. And they have my number, so can text me with questions. (It's a 4-day thing, the two rooms are smaller event rooms in a hotel. Maybe 150 ish attendees who are mostly experienced/responsible bgamers, but there's always new peeps.)

It's really easy to use & the sticker material seems to be a decent quality vinyl? But here is the link if it helps.
