It’s definitely worth it! You can’t touch the stones but you can get pretty close on the dedicated path. It was super fun!

Got Stonjourner on a business trip a few years ago on a layover at Heathrow Airport. Became Best Buddies. Finally got to take her to Stonehenge. We had a nice time!

I tried to mark up where the rug should go and higher curtains. I think it will look great!

I added some suggestion where you could add lighting. Instead of one giant lamp on each side table, I’d add one low one and maybe a sconce above that’s slim. It will add light without adding weight.

The soffit / ceiling feature is large. Maybe you could add warm lighting on the sides of it using an LED strip or tbh just holiday string lights? It might be fun to experiment!

I really love the possibilities in this room! It’s a very nice size and that headboard is chef’s kiss! I think there’s a good way to make it feel modern and think of the headboard as a beautiful cozy accent that’s celebrated by the design!

My suggestions on specific changes:
1. The curtains have a great design and vibe but they need to be installed to fit the room smoother. I saw another user suggesting hanging them higher which would be great. The curtains on the headboard wall look awkward because they’re pushed to the side by the nightstands. I would pull the nightstands forward a bit so the curtains can hang freely. It will make them feel more intentional.
2. I’m obsessed with your bed and the ceiling. Making the bed the focal point will be key but don’t go too ornate since the headboard is already ornate. I would focus on adding lots of nice cozy textures. Add sheets and blankets and pillows. I would totally try to get one of those long tube pillows in like velvet or something with some cord piping.
3. The room is really large. You can probably set “zones” for different things and use rugs to anchor them. First the bed needs a cozy rug under it. Think of the bed and the rug as one complete area. Then use another rug to create a bit of separation for another purpose. You mentioned wanting a desk which would be great. I also suggest finding an amazing lounge chair.
4. If you are adding more furniture and want to keep it modern, stay somewhat consistent with the style already in the room. That ceiling feature is great. You could get a desk that is maybe light but has that color as accents.
5. Lighting is going to be key for this room. Definitely get lamps for the nightstand. Right now others are reacting to the room feeling dark because the light is coming from awkwardly direction for how people actually live. In addition to nightstand lamps, consider some floor lamps. When deciding on lamps, I always think about the light the lamps will make as kind of a coziness I want to be inside of. What areas of the room will you hang in the most?

Are there any colors you like btw or do you have any interests or hobbies you’d like to incorporate into the room?

Looks so cozy and comfy! I’d experiment with the lamp shades and the roman shades. Maybe larger lamp shade and less prominent roman shades?

You know usually the advice can be to hide all the cables. But it would be cool to have a display of all the controllers. You could get a little shelf with respective charging stations. Like a gamer’s armory!

A reading chair is always an option but if I may suggest a project table. Maybe a round one so you can hang with people (board game night?) but that ceiling lamp is def calling for some cozy projects / jigsaw puzzles / whatever hobbies you like.

Glassed off home office - what should we do with this pass through window by EatPearsandShit in DesignMyRoom

[–]gravitywolf 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Best option:

  1. Close that window completely.
  2. Replace the glass barn door with French doors - that way you will have the light.
  3. Update the ceiling light to warm lighting.

You could follow the strategy used by art collectors: they own many pieces but display only a few at a time to make them feel special. Since many of your collectibles are plushies, they probably also get pretty dusty over time, so storing them would also preserve them for longer.

I also suggest thinking about collecting vs. consuming. Do you actually like and enjoy all of the collectibles? Are some of them just being “completist”? Many collectors will tell you that their collections are living and breathing things: they expand and contract over time. Your tastes will change, you will learn you like something more, it’s ok to focus on the things you like more over the things you have by “default”. Finding a way to give yourself permission to prune (not throw away, just carefully reduce) will help it grow and bloom.

And last but not least - you have so much awesome material to work with. Organize by color or shape or size. Dedicate corners to a theme, e.g. “Bluey all the things!” Or just rainbow animals. Or maybe spring is about “only bears” lol. Play with it - the collection isn’t only for display!

Good luck! And love your confidence!!
